Funnier than Sealab surely..... watching this on TV.

In retrospect, The Tick's mainstream marketing success was sort of unfair, wasn't it? After all, The Cockroach + Flaming Carrot with all their edginess removed = The Tick. Not that I didn't enjoy the series when it first came out, but it was highly derivative, no?

Chairface Chippendale = total ripoff of a villain from Al Capp's Fearless Fosdick (um, or a sly reference to same, take your pick)
The Tick's commercial success = total ripoff of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles phenomenon (if somewhat less successful)

Hmm, I think the formula is really "The Cockroach + Flaming Carrot + Dudley Do-Right - edginess = The Tick".

Sorry, Jon, I don't really mean to be a hater in your thread. I don't want to bring the party down. It's just that, in retrospect, I feel betrayed by my own näivete. And I find all the resemblances to be pretty amusing. Yes, "Ut!", er, I mean, "Spoon!".

I love the Flaming Carrot. I love the Tick. I love Sealab. Ben Edlund had a cartoon show and a live-action show. Bob Burden had a movie. Debbie has great bazongas. Everyone wins!

Oddly, the GCD has no Tick covers at all besides that one. Maybe they're trying to send a message... (Yeah, OK, they're just lame sometimes. They didn't have any Mysterymen comics listed either.)

Complete scans and issue index for the obscure licensed Dudley Do-Right series from Charlton, but not even an entry for The Tick. Weird...

I just got the animated series DVDs (not official, set of torrents maybe?) and I have relished watching 4 episodes last night. I think Little Wooden Boy in the Belly of Love is the favorite in my memory. It's some of the same people who now do Venture Bros.

I watched X-Men after the Tick last night and the animation was CRAP. Can America's Most Popular superhero team not be animated properly?

Eeesh, the Tick was a pretty good TV adaptation. I never felt that I was insulted by the writing on the show... unlike many a kiddie cartoon-adaption.

What was the live action version like?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

Ah, yes, but did the Tick have his own LAUNDROMAT? I think not.

Chris F. (servoret), Friday, 19 August 2005 03:52 (twenty years ago)

The live action version was really, really, really funny. PAtrick Wharburton = nu-God.

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Friday, 19 August 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Patrick Warburton points for being Brock as well.

Also, Batmanuel was awesome.
