So, is Mark Slackmeyer being a dick, or is Garry Trudeau being a dick?

Man, I like old music. I like Cole Porter. What the fuck is this guy's problem anyway - it's okay to want to live in the past as long as it's the exact era that he approves of?

Shut the fuck up, Garry, or possibly Mark.

It's a little bit of both. Mark has always been a gigantic music snob in the most inappropriate sense (there was a strip during the disco where he completely blasts Donna Summer for no good reason other than needling his boss).

Here's a link!

It's an issue of credibility more than anything - not the music, but the performer (i.e. some image-switching trend-hopper trying to make the buck). Not that I don't agree w/ the "shut the fuck up" sentiment - if Rod Stewart wants to play the Copa, then godspeed and leave the 20-year-olds alone you dirty turd.

Good catch, though - this is the first of the week (and the first in a long time) where Trudeau is letting his prejudices carry the punchline for him. It's crossed the line from making fun of Jimmy to making fun of the music.

Probably not coincidentally, it's the first week for a long time when I couldn't actually remember what was happening in Doonesbury until I went to read it.

Yeah, I actually didn't mind the Monday and Tuesday strips too much, because as Daver said - they were more about the desperate fad-chasing. But the idea that "I Love Paris" is such a vile song shows that someone's taste is all in their mouth.

The underlying subtext here is a younger Yale grad taking potshots at an older, sacred-cow Yale grad.

Hahahahahahahahahaha SET-UP AND SPIKE!

Well played, sah!

Even though the execution was a little off, you've got to admire someone who will go out of their way in a daily to be increasingly antagonistic and dickish in order to completely punk the people blindly going "YEAH!" along with the dickish character.

I have to admit I got trolled there. I feel like I should be scaled, gutted and fried up with butter and garlic.

Ha - first he alienated the yay-Bush right, now he's alienating the yay-granola left!

What is up with the drawing of Thudpucker? He's practically cross-eyed in a few panels, and his face is throwing itself around like an amoeba.
