Teh hottness!

Day of Vengeance! & according to MidtownComics.com, The OMAC Project, too! And TWO hits of Queen & Country! And the penultimate issue of Millar's Bay-esque Wolverine arc! And some other stuff! (Anyone for Inuyasha?)

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

Also of interest to Andi Watson fans (that is, Leeee): the 4th part of Little Star, AW's story about a young couple w/ baby trying to live life and do life stuff and come to terms w/ life. It's very nice.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 22 August 2005 12:57 (twenty years ago)

I'll check back after the final shipping list arrives today (5 PM EST, usually), but at the moment all I'm seeing is LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES, DAREDEVIL (beginning of Bendis's final arc) and, uh, maybe that's it. Unless UNCLE SCROOGE has a Don Rosa story in it.

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 22 August 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

BATMAN #644
DAY OF VENGEANCE #5 (OF 6)
JSA CLASSIFIED #2
BLACK PANTHER #7
DAREDEVIL #76

WOT? NO BLACK LIGHTNING GUEST APPEARANCES? HAS THE WORLD GONE MAD?!?!
(maybe he'll be in OMAC!)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Wow, almost nothing for me. That's perfect actually, since I'll be out of town most of the week.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 August 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

Awwww, Newsarama reports that the Alex Ross Green Lantern/Green Arrow collector's plate that was supposed to ship this week has been delayed.
What am I going to serve my guac on at my NERD PARTY this Friday?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Batman (unless it's still war crimes. who cares.)
Batman Jekyll & Hyde
JSA Classified
Daredevil vs. Punisher
OMAC project

WHEN NEXT ULTIMATE IRON MAN KTHX.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

(it's still War Crimes--hopefully the end of it. I want my City of Crime back)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

If I haven't mentioned it, the current Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight arc ("Snow") is REALLY good. Not so much for the Mr. Freeze origin, thought that's fine, but for post-Year One Batman experimenting with his methods and the people he trusts, and for the awesome Gordon stuff.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

who's writing it, jordan? i've been vaguely attracted to that but haven't ever picked it up (due to my general low opinion of second tier batman titles)

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Other cats can probably provide more info, but apparently the whole creative team used to do a comic called "Chase", which I know nothing about. It's written by J.H. Williams III (Prometha artist) and Dan Curtis Johnson. Maddie apparently knows one of the artists from livejournal.

I don't read many Bat-titles either, but doesn't LotDK pretty much exist so that random creative teams can come in and do stories without worrying about continuity? Which means that at any time it has the potential to be a lot better that what's going on in the main title(s).

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's how it was originally intended to be. I think from time to time they've slipped LotDK into multi-part crossovers?
Is Seth Fisher doing the insides too?
I should pick this up if there's good Gordon stuff. (I have a crush on Gordon)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Seth Fisher. I really love the art, actually. I wish I could articulate why, but I can't except that it's different and Batman is blue.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 22 August 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Just like my action figures!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, did anybody read the Seth Fisher Green Lantern thing a few years ago? I've often considered picking it up, but I hate Green Lantern.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

Man, I am psyched for Legion and Daredevil. Too bad I have to wait til Saturday to buy them.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 22 August 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

What's coming up in Daredevil?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm a bit behind the schedule on Legion 'cause of this hole I have in my collection, but the last issue I read, the one that spotlights on Triplicate girl, was so good it hurted.

I think I'll revive the Legion thread Douglas Wolk started as soon as I get that damn fourth issue I'm lacking.

i0dine, Monday, 22 August 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

Does Matt Murdock question the morality of his Daredevil crusade while crouching in the rain on the rooftop of a cathedral?
Does Foggy Nelson try to snap him out of it with a witty pop-culture reference?
WILL DAREDEVIL EVER ADMIT HE IS A NINJA?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 22 August 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Well, it's the beginning of the final Bendis/Maleev storyline on Daredevil, so I'm really interested in how they wrap up this huge 50 issue storyline. It seems like it's all come back around full circle at this point.

Wow, you've got some really great Legion stuff to catch up on, iodine. The plot really got moving in the past couple issues, and I'm waiting for the fall-out from the big thing that went down last month.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Seth Fisher didn't draw Chase, it was pencilled by Williams and inked by Mick Gray (ie the Promethea team, ie the art was WAY BETTER than the DCJ/JHW LOTDK, though I too like the awkward captured-moment poses and the blue Batman. Never saw Fisher's Green Lantern book (was it written by someone shit?) but I did buy his debut comic, Happydale, and have a raging boner for that preview piece for his Fantastic Four/Iron Man miniseries).

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:30 (twenty years ago)

Is Q&C: Declassified vol. 2 issue #1 any cop?

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:34 (twenty years ago)

D. Curtis Johnson used to post on usenet, back in the day. Chase was good fun, and it's excision from the DC 1000000 TPB is a little annoying. His big break was he wrote the first issue of JLA after Grant Morrison's run, which was probably a bit of a poisoned chalice. He got some work writing bits of those Secret Files that DC did about four or five years ago, and he sometimes used the Chase cast in those. He was very good at work in a shared universe, like a proto-Dan Slott (but without as many jokes), and I'm glad to see him getting work again.

Now I've just imagined Dan Slott writing Suicide Squad.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 22 August 2005 23:42 (twenty years ago)

Is Q&C: Declassified vol. 2 issue #1 any cop?

I thought it was good, but it came out like 6 months ago, so it's hard to really remember.

The Yellow Kid, Tuesday, 23 August 2005 03:42 (twenty years ago)

Johnson still isn't getting comics work, this was commissioned and written years ago (like most of LOTDK I guess)

kit brash (kit brash), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 04:29 (twenty years ago)

Teen Titans: OMG! SUPER KESTREL!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Wednesday, 24 August 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

Is that the LIEFELD TeenTans?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 25 August 2005 13:07 (twenty years ago)

HOLY FUCK, it's like Liefeld got Simone's script, drew whatever the fuck he wanted, and then the letterist or possibly the editor had to figure out what the fuck went where. It's a mess.

Also, DMITRI, NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 25 August 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Beefeater is next!

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 25 August 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Where is Oberon these days, anyway?

The Hand of Huk-L, Thursday, 25 August 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

I've actually come to start enjoying OMAC, in a "Crikey! Cliffhanger!" kind of way. It's a shame the art's so minging, and I frankly couldn't give a hoot about this Sasha character.

JS:C, despite the boobhole stupidity was actually kind of sweet, I thought -- I don't think I've seen Johns write that well before, which gives me more confidence IC might not be a total loss after all. Plus: cheeky next issue boxes return! Does this mean all ILC dreams come true?

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Thursday, 25 August 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

How much longer is this OMAC going for? I want to be able to understand what's going on in my Wonder Woman monthlies.

BUT: I've heard it is not terrible Event Arc stuff? Is my doubt of my Rucka in this case unwarranted, or should I continue to curse OMAC for taking my Rucka's attention away from Q&C?

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 26 August 2005 02:42 (twenty years ago)

OMAC's not that bad. Art is just about OK, it's the colouring the one that's horrible, even worse than the low colour-by-computer standards of today.

I really don't want to think that DC or Dan DiDio or Rucka/Johns/Meltzer has anything personal against Giffen's JLI, but the stuff they've been doing are really making me think twice about this whole thing. I mean, come on, Sue Dibny, Max Lord, Blue Beetle and now even Dmitri? He was never a symbol as much as the Beetle or Max and he's not as well remembered. It really makes no sense, unless the big plot in DiDio's mind is to erase every trace of the JLI in the DCU.

iodine (iodine), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

I don't really care about Dmitri or Sue, but it seemed like there were lots of stories left to tell about BB and Max, and wasting them seemed kind of pointless.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

JSC Power Girl is pretty old-school JLI-style, I think. It's not all grim.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Friday, 26 August 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

I don't really care about Dmitri

Yeah, that's my point, they're killing even the caracters no one cared about.

Well, I cared, but I know I'm in the minority.

JSA's the one stuff from Johns I find interesting. He puts a lot more care on it and it shows; I like the way he's developed Stargirl and the father-son dynamics between Rex and Rick Tyler, among other stuff.

iodine (iodine), Friday, 26 August 2005 22:28 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if Rucka & co. are just running through the list that Brad Meltzer supposedly rec'd from DC of characters he was allowed to kill.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Saturday, 27 August 2005 01:03 (twenty years ago)
