And over the weekend?
I'm gonna go buy the GOOD comic shop in town after work today. Anybody got any recommendations?
So far, all I know for sure is that I'll be looking for the Daredevil stuff mentioned on another thread.

Hey Huck, I really liked The Flash, so you get points. Well done.

that's the first time my taste in comics has ever been celebrated.

Yeah, well I was beginning to think that your tastes, incredibly boyish and spandexy as they are, were somewhat arrested and dubious.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

psyche ;)

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 18:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I was gonna say, isn't that the point of comics?

The Huckle-Buck (Horace Mann), Thursday, 29 April 2004 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No. They are for keeping the demons asleep.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Thursday, 29 April 2004 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

They are for motherfucking ART that has NOTHING to do with SPANDEX and MUSCLES and ANYTHING BRIGHTLY COLORED! Bitchz.

Stan Leee just insulted me... but in bizarro world, that means he likes me!

Me am sex you up.

So I picked up the first Bendis Daredevil trade. My comic dealer's eyes lit up when I told him I'd been strongly recommended to read Daredevil.
I also picked up the new GCPD trade. I just finished it and it is awesome. That's Gotham Central, a really fantastic police procedural set in Batville. I was so impressed, I just had to get on and blab about it.
And there's next to no spandex! So maybe I'm becoming less arrested and dubious.

This is the point where you seek out anything written by the folks that wrote those series you mentioned (Rucka, Bendis, Brubaker) and become one with the Played Out Hipster Unimind.

I was KIDDING.

You have a comic "dealer"? Sounds a bit shady.

@d@ml (nordicskilla), Friday, 30 April 2004 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I was kidding back.
It's totally shady. I keep finding myself in these nearly-inappropriate relationships with local retailers. The record-store guy (who's now a good friend), the book-store guy (who thinks he's a good friend), and now the comic-store guy (who's a good friend of a former friend and former boss). They all know which of my buttons to push to make me spend more money.
"Hey Huck, I went a ahead and ordered that new Neil Hagerty for you."
"Hey Huck, here's that biography on Shecky Greene I was telling you about...it only comes in hardcover."
"Hey Huck, you're interested in Daredevil? You want to open a file?"

(I have so far resisted opening a file, mainly because the spandex comics I loved as a kid--when I had a huge file, but somehow spent less than $20/month on comics--seem so shitty to me, with a few exceptions, that I refuse to commit to buying them.)
