ONI

Here is an all-purpose Oni Press thread (c/d, s/d, poo, etc.).

Almost purely on the strength of Queen & Country and the odd Scott Morse book, classic.

Also just read Jen Van Meter's Hopeless Savages -- and even though it deals with, of all things, punk rock, fantastic dialogue and cheery characters. (JVM, I should mention, is married to Rucka. There's a thing there, dialogue!)(And is she British? Anyone?)(Yeah, I also wanted to talk about Hopeless Savages -- the other volume any snuff?)

Andi Watson's not bad neither, but judging by Geisha, a bit unfocused at times.

Arthur Dela Cruz (Kissing Chaos): pretty art, d00d can't write.

Search: Courtney Crumrin, BARRY WEEN!, Atomic City Tales, Frumpy The Crown, Madman, some of the Kevin Smith stuff they did.

Destroy: Scooter Girl, Blue Monday, anything touched by the hand of Chynna Clugston Major.

I like Blue Monday - I can see how it could annoy though. I did read something terrible on ONI but I can't recall what it was - it was very MTV rebellion. Barry Ween is grebt grebt grebt - is there much of it, I think I can only have 1 (or 2?) issues.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 30 April 2004 10:16 (twenty-two years ago)

There's four collections, three issues each. The last two are the Monkey Business miniseries.

Leeee, have you read Andi Watson's Skeleton Key? It's super-twee, and just as great! His current Oni series (Love Fights) is fun stuff, too (but maybe I'm just a sucker for superpets).

Also good from Oni - Three Strikes (by the writing crew that's currently on Marvel's New Mutants / New X-Men series) (w/ art by Q&C's Brian Hurtt) (sic). It's about a bounty hunter tracking down a "fugitive", and the people in their lives & other treacly-sounding stuff that's not as treacly as you'd think.

I love the hell out of Courtney Crumrin and Queen & Country. Haven't read anything else but I'd like to.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 30 April 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Complete Copybook Tales was very good, a growing-up (in Canada) story by J. Torres and Tim Levins, and I loved Courtney Crumrin. Another nod for Hopeless Savages too. Not really too keen on their manga-style stuff. Has anyone read Marquis? I keep picking it up and putting it down again at the shop. Maybe that's a sign.

Skeleton Key, grebt, but SUGAR BUZZ is the grebtest. let's talk about SUGAR BUZZ, SUGAR BUZZ, SUGAR BUZZ. oh this is an ONI thread. bah

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 30 April 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds like Kissing Chaos.

Queen & Country scoop! There's going to be an original Q&C novel out in the fall that's actually part of the canonical storyline!

Also, Rucka wants to beat me up!

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Saturday, 1 May 2004 05:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You lucky bastard! The best I ever got was J0hn Byrn3 laughing @/with me! Keep it up!

I can't figure if you're joking.

Leeefuse 73 (Leee), Monday, 3 May 2004 05:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't figure why you'd think I am / not joking?

one year passes...
Also good from Oni - Three Strikes (by the writing crew that's currently on Marvel's New Mutants / New X-Men series)

That'd be Nunzio DeFilipis and Christina Weir, whose writing on New X-Men: Academy X is deplorable.

Leeeeeeee (Leee), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone read Scott Pilgrim?
It's twee but excellent.

Chuck_Tatum (Chuck_Tatum), Tuesday, 30 August 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

Also good from Oni - Three Strikes (by the writing crew that was on Marvel's New Mutants / New X-Men series) (the same crew that Leeeee is misjudging in the case of Three Strikes)
