young avengers

so, is anyone else reading this? i honestly think this is one of the best comics i've read in months. i fully approve of marvel introducing new heroes into continuity, in a way that respects the past but still creates exciting new characters and new scenarios. i don't know anything about the writer but he's really won me over. the book is fast-paced, with pretty much every issue ending with a cliffhanger that makes me want to read the next ish. and i can't remember the artist's name but i really like him, i even read that kind of crappy crossgen title he was on (scion?) and i think he's really matured as an artist. if anyone wants a yousendit for the first six issues i'd be happy to provide. sooooo, what do you guys think?

I picked up the first issues but then I bailed - 5 issues in and we still hadn't finished a plot yet?

I think the art's really nice, though.

really? maybe you have a shorter attention span than i do, i think that six issues is a pretty reasonable span for a story. i kind of prefer twelve issues to be honest. but i dunno, in six issues they introduced several new characters, established the reaction that cap't america & iron man hade to them, introduced their first arch-nemesis, explored their backrounds and powers without giving away the secrets.... i thought they did a great job! and c'mon
(spoiler)
you didnt think it was cool when iron lad killed kang? i never really read avengers and i still thought that was pretty rad.

I think it's been OK, good plotting, twists I didn't anticipate - but there's something not grabbing me about it. Maybe it's the characters - the only one I like is Kid Hawkeye or whatever she's going to be called. I thought Patriot would be a bit nastier and more interesting than he is, the ant girl is a bit of a cypher and neither of the gay couple seems to have any personality beyond "nice but dim" (I ph34r that Marvel thinks their gayness is personality enough).

I'm still reading though.

Is this the title that's going to x-over with Runaways? Is it going to be in the Runaways continuity? Or will it be in a separate title that I can ignore?

It'll be a safely ignorable miniseries. Half the cover will be dominated by Marvel promoting their adaptation of the Guns 'N Roses song "Civil War".

The actual series (written by Allan Heinberg, AKA the dood now writing Wonder Woman) is fun, flighty stuff. The Civil mini x-ing over w/ Runaways (written by Zeb Wells, AKA the dood that wrote that awesome FF / Iron Man mini drawn by Seth Fisher [RIP]) might be a little more blah (because, y'know, WAR), but Zeb's known for some wacky hijinks.

I love, love, love this series. Seriously I picked up and read the first couple issues in the store and read them there. While I liked them, I wasn't ready to start on a new series (I collect just about everything anyways) Finally by the time they had reached Issue 10 or 11 i picked them all up. I don't know how manytimes i have read the series since but it is closely approaching double digits. Allan is a Genious and the characters are fresh and fun. I can't wait to see what happens to them durring and after Civil War. I won't Spoil this series for anyone. If u have the cash to pick this up do so. You won't regret it. I promis you that.

one month passes...
I bought the first trade last night 'cuz I was drunk and had a coupon. I read it this morning (IN THE SOBER LIGHT OF DAY) and thought it was pretty good. I wouldn't call this Heinberg fella a Genious, but he apparently can write a fairly enjoyable superheroicist yarn that feels neither fully contemporary nor overly retro. Although they overdo the gayness foreshadowing. They beat you over the head with how much they're not beating you over the head about it.
