A very cheap place to start reading: tothfans.com - The Official Alex Toth Website

Sadly, not that many are great to read, mostly just to look at. The Bravo For Adventure stuff is fun. There are odd magnificent short pieces ('White Devil, Yellow Devil' in a DC war comic, two jet fighter stories in one of the EC war titles, and so on). The Cord story in Hot Wheels 5 (cheap because there's no Neal Adams, just Toth!) is among my all-time favourites. There's a nice Warren special of Creepy or Eerie which is all classic-Toth stories. Lots of good stuff in DC titles like House of Mystery. He's probably my favourite comic artist, and I completely adore his work - but there's no extended run with a good writer, and he was only a competent one himself.

When I stopped doing my comic fanzine, I had agreement from Toth to do an interview and a cover for me. I'm really sad that never happened. I believe I still have his letter somewhere, in that familiar writing.

Considering the fact that we live in the same city and the incestuous nerd subculture in any given metropolis , I find it amusing that I've probably met the culprit in question, if only in passing.

Hell, we're probably on the same sub list.

Also, the implicit dismissal of both the Jaime Hernandez and Tony Millionaire art books = crazy.

Was it Leonard Pierce? That guy is terrible and often bullshits above his weight.
