"Red sky crossover" is a useful if jargonistic addition to the critical lexicon.

"Tiny footprints" was VERY FUNNY when it actually appeared in Identity Crisis.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 15 September 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

The #4 google result for "Tiny Footprints" + DC is ILC.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

And this is the seventh result!

(Tiny) Footprints on my Heart
© Feb 2005
trudifcross66

That cold December's eve
remains a mystery
The crash is etched
upon my heart
The worst they'd seen
history blowen apart

When I held you in my arms
and watched helplessly
as you spread your wings
and left this earth
A flood of tears brought
memories of your birth

Now...
You’re the angel
Who haunts
The empty halls…
Of my sleepless dreams
An’ leaves tiny footprints...
Tiny footprints...
Footprints on my heart

As I walk through the year
and wander aimlessly
through the pictures now
I can't believe
that three children left
families here to grieve

As I sift through the pain
and question destiny
will you lead me home
and shout out loud
set my spirit free
finally lift this cloud

for...
You’re the angel
Who haunts
The empty halls…
Of my sleepless dreams
An’ leaves tiny footprints...
Tiny footprints...
Footprints on my heart

You’ll always be
The angel
Who left tiny footprints…
Tiny footprints…
Footprints on my heart…

so touching!

I don't understand "Red Sky Crossover" really , so it is going to have to be "tiny footprints", which is intrinsically hilarious anyway, esp when coupled with the "Sad Identity Crisis Face"

Mark C (Markco), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

During the original Crisis On Infinite Earths back in 85/86, many crossover issues had little to do with the actual crisis aside from Atari Force or Swamp Thing noticing that the skies were red, and saying 'What's up with that?"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Why were the skies red again?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

Shepherd's Delight!

Slumpman (Slump Man), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Red skies = A SIGN THAT THE ANTI-MONITOR WAS GONNA MESS W/ YOUR SHIT! Or global warming.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

So if "red skies" = "useless, tangential-at-best x-over", then could "tiny footprints" = "underwhemling revelation"? Like if it was revealed that Magneto turned against homo sapiens because he had 6 toes on his right foot?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

& what's the Marvel equivalent of this? BEYONDER PERM?

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I remember back in one of those Adam Warlock giant x-overs, Hulk and Wolverine hung out on the ceiling of the Baxter Building or something, and it started SNOWING! In JULY! OMNIOUS!

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

THANOS DRIVE-BY

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

ok explain tiny footprints?

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:05 (twenty years ago)

if you have tiny footprints in your brain, you will die.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

jeez slocki, didn't you read the poem??

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Red Sky At Night = SUPERHERO FITE

Red Sky In Morning = SUPERMAN MOURNING

Vic Fluro, Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

slocki - check out the identity crisis thread - it's related to the supertwist ending that has had MAJOR REPERCUSSIONS for the dc universe... it's also hilariously awful

dave k, Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

(PS - not really)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

"And I would have gotten away with it too, if only I'd raked her brains like a sand trap!"

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

"Swamp Thing noticing that the skies were red"

Swamp Thing and his old chum John Constantine even got to go to the JLA satellite* and witness Alexander Luthor's speech. That x-over was rather nice.

*It also could have been the Monitor's satellite

tiny footprints = the devastating plot twist in "Identity Crisis"!! Mrs Elongated Man (Sue Dibny) was murdered and everyone thought that Dr Light had done it, but then Dr Midnite and his owl did an autopsy and discovered TINY FOOTPRINTS IN HER BRAIN!!! Everyone thought that Atom had done it but instead it was Mrs Atom, who is now Eclipso - I don't really understand the last bit, or why she did it but oh well...

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 16 September 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Jean (Mrs. Atom, well, ex-Mrs. Atom, actually--they divorced around the same time the Atom joined a subatomic race of Barbarians, I'm not sure which came first) didn't mean to kill Sue Dibny, she just, um, went into her brain to, um, what was she doing in her brain again? Looking for a recipe?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

She was TRYING to get BACK her HUSBAND so she went TIPTOEING through DIBNY's brain to MESS HER UP and force HEROES to acknowledge their LOVED ONES. I THINK. She might've WANTED the ATOM to pull a PYM, too.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 September 2005 13:48 (twenty years ago)

And why did she bring a flamethrower with her?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 13:49 (twenty years ago)

To make S'MORES.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 September 2005 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Actually, maybe she went to freak out Sue, & then went into her brain to calm her down or knock her out. (Yeah, because that makes a lot more sense.)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

"Bitch, you better calm down 'fore I tiptoe on you BRAIN!"

The Ghost of Jean Ex-Atom (Dan Perry), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

But the first six issues are really good!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

the bit where the JLA politely queue up one a time to fight Deathstroke the Dorkinator was a bit rub - he made stabby! esp. the part where Flash, who can dodge bullets and exploding buildings, runs onto Strokey's sword. doh!

Mark C (Markco), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

And also, Michael Turner's covers (especially the ones where he has Green Arrow in a mini-skirt) were shitty.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

The 3-part Flash crossover/tie-in was (except for the last issue...hmmmm, a trend? Maybe I'll skip Infinite Crisis #7) as good if not better than Identity Crisis.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't call them really good. They're good at moving the story forward to the next issue where all will be revealed, but when it turns out that the thing to be revealed is a load of baloney, they don't really have anything else to hide behind. Apart from the serious and long lasting side effects that have brought us to Infinite Crisis. The next issue of which is really good, I hear.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Friday, 16 September 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I imaging it's going to be complete run in collected form, since the whole fun of it was guessing what happens next during the time between issues.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

run = rub

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Huk = hun.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what my last post means.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 16 September 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

It means you're getting uncomfortably flirty.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 16 September 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

Get one Dante/Aja board, you two.

Leeeeeeeee (Leee), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

(...well, ex-Mrs. Atom, actually--they divorced around the same time the Atom joined a subatomic race of Barbarians, I'm not sure which came first)

He ran off to the jungle where he found said tiny barbarians as a reaction to discovering his wife TOTALLY BONING some other dude from the university (or maybe he was a lawyer or something, whatever). I think they got divorced somewhere between that mini-series and one of the sequel specials (incidentally folks these are great comics, Gil Kane art and Jan Strnad scripts (except the third special which was Pat Broderhack). The Atom decided he was happier living in a jungle riding frogs like horses and boning a tiny yellow alien chick after all, and fair point to him!)

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 16 September 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Pity the superhero whose power's related with shrinking, for his wife will end up being a WHORE.
