I always thought this sounded like a really good idea because then your hand would be a yummy snack for whenever you needed it.

an ex girlfriend's mother did, in all seriousness, do this once.
she used to dip her hand in the (turned off) deep fat fryer and flick oil into a frying pan for the breakfast in the mornings. one day, someone turned it on first. not very nice.

a co-worker at LJS accidentally dipped his whole arm in a deep fryer. he was so fucking tough about it, it was unbelievable. i was right next to him, making hushpuppies, and then i heard him make a sustained grunt, and then before i knew it the franchise owner was there, they're rushing to the hospital, they're cleaning out the fryer, etc. meanwhile, on the other three fryers we continued serving delicious breaded fish, chicken, and shrimp to whoever's willing to pay
― Karl Malone, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 15:03 (four years ago) link
sorry CaAL - figured reposting a video in the 'HELP! My friend stuck his hand in my deep fryer' came with an implicit health warning

― オニモ (onimo), Wednesday, 9 September 2020 15:32 (four years ago) link
this is a hell of a short story
"sustained grunt" is haunting
― shout-out to his family (DJP), Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:21 (four years ago) link
a sustained grunt would be what i'd imagine you'd muster if transfixed by a longbow
― imago, Wednesday, 9 September 2020 17:26 (four years ago) link
that's pretty much what it was like. he was extremely tough - there were cashiers in the front, 10 feet away, who didn't even know what had happened until later. even me, right by him - i don't think i noticed until a few seconds into it. it was the splash of all the oil onto the floor and fryer area that i noticed first
