HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:23 (seventeen years ago)

srsly?

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:28 (seventeen years ago)

I am scared of seeing this movie, as it could be my last straw with Tim Burton.

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:30 (seventeen years ago)

I'll see it, but who is going to babysit my kids?

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:51 (seventeen years ago)

Also, my friend 4ndr3w loved Sweeney Todd and would not stop talking about it.

The problem with that is that he loves almost everything, so it is difficult to sort his recommendations.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 16:52 (seventeen years ago)

the boring musical theater people at my work LOVED sweeny todd

jergïns, Monday, 14 January 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)

A RINGING ENDORSEMENT

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

Tell me which Tim Burton things you hated and I'll tell you if you're RONG or not (and why!).

HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 17:45 (seventeen years ago)

Sleepy Hollow and Planet of the Apes

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:09 (seventeen years ago)

"Planet of the Apes" was a bag of dicks.

"Sleepy Hollow" should be viewed as if it were a lost Doctor Who episode with bonus comedy decapitations and then the whole thing makes a lot more sense.

HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

mixed feeling on corpse bride also, which, given the musical nature of sweeny todd worries me.

Yes, before you ask, I thought Nightmare Before Christmas was great (although the endless gothling merch frenzy does tarnish my memories a bit)

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:14 (seventeen years ago)

"Sweeny Todd" manages to mix the campy visuals with the leads total and utter commitment to the roles to make something that should have been a total mess into a cinematic experience akin to a musical "Sin City". HBC can't sing a note yet still manages to be completely perfect for the part, while Johnny Depp exudes palpable menace in every scene that just energizes the whole picture. Also, the music is fantastic.

I never saw "Corpse Bride" because it looked too emo.

HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:17 (seventeen years ago)

I didn't mind Corpse Bride and predictably haven't seen any of the rest.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:26 (seventeen years ago)

I forgot that my friend 4my also loved Sweeney Todd, but it seemed to be because she lusts after Johnny Depp, so that might be a strong influence here.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

it probably is for dan too

max, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:27 (seventeen years ago)

WHAT SARA IS SAYING THAT DAN LUSTS AFTER JOHNNY DEPP

hahaha xpost

John Justen, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:28 (seventeen years ago)

Well, everyone should lust after Johnny Depp, duh. If Dan does, he's just showing good sense.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:34 (seventeen years ago)

The big problem with Depp's performance is that if he'd done that on stage for 2 hrs, he'd have no voice at all by the end of the show.

Alan Rickman = k-awesome as well.

HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

Alan Rickman is always awesome.

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:38 (seventeen years ago)

jhøshea, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:40 (seventeen years ago)

Mars Attacks! is fucking awesome, noob.

HI DERE, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)

I really enjoyed Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Of course I've never forgotten how creepy the 70s version of that story is. (Dude who sings the "Candyman" song at the beginning is TOTALLY a child molester).

Sara R-C, Monday, 14 January 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

Can I spoil the ending?

SPOILER: shit gets hectic
