John Justen, Thursday, 6 March 2008 21:37 (seventeen years ago)

also we were out of polls to vote in, which leads to listlessness, sometimes gastrointestinal uncertainty

John Justen, Thursday, 6 March 2008 21:42 (seventeen years ago)

It's wrong that I perk up at the phrase "gastrointestinal uncertainty," isn't it.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 21:45 (seventeen years ago)

It's a little wrong.

HI DERE, Thursday, 6 March 2008 22:16 (seventeen years ago)

Hey, it's only so interesting to practice assessing my perfectly healthy husband and kids. I'd like to hear what I'm supposed to listen for that IS NOT healthy!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 22:21 (seventeen years ago)

Also, you know things have gotten out of hand when you're practicing assessing your 9 year old and he pipes up with, "Mom, you forgot to provide a privacy curtain!"

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 22:22 (seventeen years ago)

Jeff and FB are within driving distance! I'm sure they'd let you shove marmosets up their asses listen to their bowel sounds.

HI DERE, Thursday, 6 March 2008 22:23 (seventeen years ago)

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

I'll have you know that I just asked my ONE smoking friend in town if she would let me listen to her lungs.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 23:50 (seventeen years ago)

It's so painfully clear that I have no life.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 6 March 2008 23:51 (seventeen years ago)

STAY AWAY FROM MY LUNGS LADY

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:20 (seventeen years ago)

John, people can hear your lungs from other cities.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:23 (seventeen years ago)

if god had intended for you to listen to my lungs, he would have created adam and emphysema

John Justen, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:26 (seventeen years ago)

I CAN HEAR YOU WHEEZING FROM NORTHFIELD, JOHN

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)

i just got that allen carr book 'the easy way to stop smoking'... let's see just how 'easy' this is...

Rubyredd, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:39 (seventeen years ago)

You should live blog it, obv.

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:43 (seventeen years ago)

Also, wouldn't the "easy" way be to try a prescription med like Chantix? Or is that not available in NZ...?

Sara R-C, Monday, 17 March 2008 23:54 (seventeen years ago)

TBH there is no easy way to stop lacking the gene sequences in "normal" people that allow you to give a shit about empirically acquired data when making decisions

Rubyredd, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:04 (seventeen years ago)

breaking the rules

^^^^ I know TH smokes and I am going to have to assume his friend "Mike" in the thread question does as well

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

tombot, I've only given those a cursory glance, but it looks like they address starting/becoming addicted more than quitting...? (xpost to first two; I can't keep up!)

But yeah - you can't change your GENES, it's true.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:08 (seventeen years ago)

well, we're still a long way off from identifying specific gene sequences involved in addiction - and based on data there appear to be many different subsets of addictive behaviors, though tobacco smoking seems to be associated with just about everything else.

The Chiu paper is really interesting to me because it implies that a major aspect of addiction is an inability to take feedback and apply it in decision making.

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:16 (seventeen years ago)

I'm not saying Ruby can't quit smoking! But that book does help explain why so many ex-smokers turn into sanctimonious dickheads

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:17 (seventeen years ago)

The only ex-smokers I know are okay. My Dad, for example, is not sanctimonious at all.

Okay, really the only sanctimonious people I know are the ones who have Gotten Religion in a big way and who mention Jesus in every paragraph of their Xmas letters.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 00:29 (seventeen years ago)

Sara stop talking bad about me because i am so sweet on jesus

John Justen, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 01:23 (seventeen years ago)

John Justen, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 01:31 (seventeen years ago)

No idea, but if you hadn't pointed it out I probably would never have noticed it.

Sara R-C, Tuesday, 18 March 2008 01:35 (seventeen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 20 March 2008 00:01 (seventeen years ago)

"TURN THAT GRIMACE UPSIDEDOWNWAYS, A SMILE IS THE BEST UMBRELLA DESPITE THE FACT THAT A CAUTIOUS THINKER KNOWS THIS IS PATENTLY UNTRUE" is what that used to say

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

ILX fights my floridity at every turn

John Justen, Thursday, 20 March 2008 04:59 (seventeen years ago)

So it's eating parts of long sentences in polls now?! That seems odd.

Sara R-C, Thursday, 20 March 2008 05:02 (seventeen years ago)

Must by HUNGRY.

Proceed with caution.
