So I have a bunch of mp3s that aren't tagged properly and I'd really like to know who is performing these songs and what they're called. I believe you all are wise and knowledgeable folks; if I upload them and link them to this thread, will you download them and tell me who performed them and off of which album so I can fix them accordingly?

It's a service. You download a client, which reads a small sample from yr audio files -- the decoded audio data, not the MP3 or FLAC or WAV or whatever -- and tries to match that against samples on the server. When it finds a match, you are offered a chance to update the tags on the audio file. I've had varying success with MusicBrainz: The more common yr audio is, the easier it is to match, obviously. I wouldn't expect much more than 50%, but that's still not too bad.
The Windows clients really kinda suck, honestly. I Eat Brainz for Mac/iTunes is much nicer.
