3. i just SPILLED LA CREME YOGURT ALL OVER MY BLACK SHIRT

Surmounter, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

houses always have at least one thing wrong with them and when you get a thing fixed something else quickly goes wrong, before i understood this i was always annoyed when things broke but now i have accepted it, also i have stopped thinking it would be nice to have two houses.

estela, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:29 (seventeen years ago)

there is a great film illustrating this principal, that will hopefully get you laughing about your problem. it starts tom hanks and is called, "the money pit".

deeznuts, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 21:36 (seventeen years ago)

3 day ban for laughing at my pain

wilter, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 00:53 (seventeen years ago)

xpost Okay, so this allllll sucks, but my question is this: what do you do about a collapsed main sewer line? Because that sounds very, very bad.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 00:56 (seventeen years ago)

Also, I'm cranky from a long day in the car, crap food at all meals, and the hotel we're at is having problems with their pool. (We chose this hotel specifically because of the pool. Now I have two overtired, squirrelly children with no possible outlet for their prodigious energy.)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 00:59 (seventeen years ago)

I failed to mention earlier that the place we ate dinner had a rack of Christian books in it, and I ate my food eyeballing the covers of books like I Can Pray! and God Made Puppies.

If the food had been better, I would have probably found this funny.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 02:34 (seventeen years ago)

yeah when you have a collapsed sewer line you pay a very expensive magical plumber to come and dig up your entire front yard and put in a new one

apparently

I think this will be somewhere between 5-10K

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 03:43 (seventeen years ago)

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN JOHN
:(:(:(

wilter, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 03:45 (seventeen years ago)

oh shit thats bad bad

sorry for lolling :(

deeznuts, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 03:48 (seventeen years ago)

Okay, that sucks worse than the worst sucky thing I can think of. I'm kind of at a loss as to what to say... except I'm sorry that is going on.

I kind of feel like I should ask if there's anything I can do, but I have no idea what that would even be! (Go to plumbing school...?)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 04:01 (seventeen years ago)

fwiw it was the juxtaposition w/ "im gonna have to spend 5-10K on shit, literally" & "secret chiefs 3 is playing in town" that threw me

deeznuts, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 04:03 (seventeen years ago)

The latter is moderately sad to me, as I would love to see John sit through a 3 day hippie love fest.

But yeah, I don't expect anyone to have worse news than the sewage problem.
(Does this make John feel better or worse?!)

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 04:15 (seventeen years ago)

I think I'm going to go to bed now, because I am not making anyone feel any better here.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 04:21 (seventeen years ago)

nah just had to get it out of my system. whatever, it's money. fuck it. if it wasn't this something else house related would have given me the old whack-a-mole.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 05:25 (seventeen years ago)

thank you all for your sympathy tho, srsly

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 06:11 (seventeen years ago)

Ooooooh pretty!

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:30 (seventeen years ago)

I hate money.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:31 (seventeen years ago)

And I hate insomnia in strange hotel rooms.

Also, why do they tuck the sheets into the sides of the beds so firmly that it takes five minutes or more to get out? It seems a little over the top.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

i can kinda of sympathise with yr house pains black beyounce. my parents just found out they gotta spend 22K to fix their roof :/

a few years back, at their last house, the septic tank flooded. about 10-15K of damage i think.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 09:56 (seventeen years ago)

ugh, we are dropping $$$$ on our roof now, plus we have to redo our bathroom

HI DERE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 10:41 (seventeen years ago)

Last night i decided to explore this tough neighourhood on foot. Unbeknownst to me, their sewerage lines were experiencing blockage. Sewage water bubbling out of the manholes and down the streets. I stepped into raw sewage, twice.

slecked, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 13:21 (seventeen years ago)

So our themes this week are MONEY and SEWAGE.

Nice.

Sara R-C, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)

xpost to dan: actually, i forgot my parents are doing their bathroom too, since it is completely fucked.

Rubyredd, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 14:44 (seventeen years ago)

John, Damn. I didn't realize it was that bad. For suck. WAAAAAAAAAY for suck.

Haven't talked to you since Monday. When are they tearing it up and replacing it?

Dan, I helped my parents put on a roof with the help of a family friend, but I don't think I can fly out to Boston to do it for you. Besides, it would be more expensive after you paid a contractor to redo what I fucked up, plus the rain damage.

Hope your bathroom business isn't related to plumbing problems.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:16 (seventeen years ago)

HE LIVES! ALL HAIL!

tear up timing is unknown, going through the quote process right now. amusing point - 2 of the guys i've asked for quotes have wanted me to pay to get a quote (refundable if we go with them). which leads me to believe that there are masses of people out there that get needless sewer pipe removal quotes without having a bad sewer pipe just for kicks and the thrill of the thing.

i maintained my politeness and declined their offer, because it is rude to tell a stranger that is a plumbing professional to go fuck himself.

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 16:59 (seventeen years ago)

I can provide a quote at a discount rate, because you're my friend.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 19:52 (seventeen years ago)

aw

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

2 of the guys i've asked for quotes have wanted me to pay to get a quote (refundable if we go with them)

this is a clever abuse of the sunk cost fallacy!

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:13 (seventeen years ago)

i imagine the city would reject my "moat of liquid sewage to keep the door to door lawncare salesmen at bay" idea

xpost yah i know, it almost gives me a grudging respect for them

BLACK BEYONCE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:18 (seventeen years ago)

i imagine the city would reject my "moat of liquid sewage to keep the door to door lawncare salesmen at bay" idea

Time to run for City Council, obv.

Hope it all gets settled with a minimum of excruciating pain.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:27 (seventeen years ago)

We don't have plumbing issues per se; our toilet is a little unsteady but there are no sewage issues. Our bathroom problems right now are:

- recurring mildew problem caused by poor ventilation
- one wall has a big hole in it where work on the main building sewer pipe was done
- initially-charming claw-foot tub has become fucking irritating claw-foot tub
- no storage space
- unusable ledge space due to aforementioned fucking irritating claw-foot tub
- wanted to paint and retile anyway

HI DERE, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:35 (seventeen years ago)

I have a headache that won't go AWAY!!

Finefinemusic, Wednesday, 2 July 2008 20:37 (seventeen years ago)

Dan, it sounds like your spending money on bathroom remodeling is at least semi-voluntary... which is good. John, please don't strangle those people for being jerks because you will not like prison.

FB!!!! You're ALIVE!!! (I feel like that's a revelation every time...)

Finefinemusic - hope your headache goes!

Sara R-C, Thursday, 3 July 2008 01:55 (seventeen years ago)

just got the hookup on a MUCH MUCH lower quote on this via our guilty feeling former realtor calling in a favor!!!

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

i have never felt so overjoyed at paying a large sum of money for an unexpected disaster that results in nothing fun.

BLACK BEYONCE, Thursday, 3 July 2008 19:44 (seventeen years ago)

Congrats on the cheap quote, BTW. Still sucks, I know.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:08 (seventeen years ago)

HEY I CAN FLUSH MY TOILET AGAIN!

BLACK BEYONCE, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:22 (seventeen years ago)

white celine, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

lol

Surmounter, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 19:46 (seventeen years ago)

oh wow we had a similiar plumbing disaster a couple of weeks before our wedding. i wasnt working and had no car at the time (had just arrived from AUS) and had to plan out stores and restaurants I could walk to in the time between urge and urgency. anyway, one dug up backyard, 3 days and $3000 later we could flush the toilet again. IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY.

sunny successor, Tuesday, 8 July 2008 20:02 (seventeen years ago)

I can imagine!
