Remedios Varo galleries

This isn't related to the series (as far as I know) but I just found out about Remedios Varo and wanted to share her fantastic art. Not sure if she's new to you or not but I figured at least some of you would want to see more of this:

So I found some galleries. Here are the best ones so far:

Gallery 1 < 25 full-size images on a single page (scroll down past the text and beware of pop-ups)

Gallery 2 < Kinda small gallery with thumbnail links to the images

Gallery 3 < Lots of stuff here, text links to small but mostly high-quality images

Gallery 4 < Not much here but it does have a bigger version of "Woman Leaving the Phsychoanalyst" at the bottom

Gallery 5 < Very small thumbnailed gallery (6 images) but the full-size versions are very high quality

Gallery 6 < Want analysis?

Larger version of "Ruptura"

Larger versions of "Hacia la torre", "Bordando el Manto Terrestre" and "La huida"

If anyone has any more galleries, feel free to contribute.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Her work actually reminds me of the guy that illustrated The Stinky Cheese Man and other children's books, Lane Smith. I love his artwork and certainly find Varo's intriguing as well!

more art crap

Syra mentioned Varo in an old post, which was my introduction to her.
I guess it isn't surprising that the regulars here would share similar tastes in art.

I've definitely noticed a similarity in the style of writing I encounter in the personal emails I occasionally get via this site. It's startling how often they uncannily resemble my own tortured prose-- perhaps a sign of the struggle to distill a non-verbal, sense-oriented perspective into a string of words.

Coincidentally, I'm taking a more purely visual narrative approach to the new Aeon episode I'm developing. There will be dialogue, but nowhere near the level of the 1995 series. The ultimate format and outlet for the project is still undetermined, but I have a feeling this will be the definitive incarnation of Aeon Flux.

I've taken up Maya recently. All the more reason this man's work is currently blowing my mind:

Peter, I'm both gratified and embarassed that you would find Varo from my silly post. She's still my favorite artist, for whatever indefinable reason.

I'm getting flashes of that 'visual narrative' from time to time. Taking drugs (responsibly), martial arts (badly), and generally sleep-depriving myself have all had fascinating results. The trick, though, is porting them from wetware.

re: that website: Holy shit.

There's a manga-ka, Hitoshi Tomizawa, whose work hits me in all the right spots. If you're into biological surrealism you might like it.

Milk Closet scans.

I didn't think this'd turn into a "I see your art and I raise you two arts" kinda thread (I meant "more Varo galleries") -- this has turned out sort of a pleasant surprise.

So long as everybody's sharing, have some Herve Martin:
