Lol.

I wonder if the overwhelmingly negative reviews the movie got were partly a reaction to the almost intolerable amount of hype that preceded it.

Thanks for posting that. I haven't actually read any reviews because the hype turned me off to both the book and the movie entirely, so I was sick of hearing about it before the movie was even out.

Also, the amount of controversy and people getting their panties in a twist about the book when it first came out was . . . well, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry. It's in the FICTION section, isn't it? At least it made for a good joke on the Daily Show.

Barb, you have got to look out for "HOLY BLOOD + HOLY GRAIL."

It's in paperback - Nonfixion

Mark,

I got home late from work last night, dead tired, read you on the other column and really laughed, switched to this column and saw this post. Went to bed, turned on the tv and put on one of my fav channels, the History Channel, and a male voice, narrating the show was saying, "...and is written about in Holy Blood, Holy Grail"

Are you psychic?

My curiousity piqued, I'll pick it up.

It's an interesting book, but the idea of both it (and the movie) are flawed by simple mathematics. Anyone that lived and reproduced 2,000 years ago is by definition going to be an ancestor of about 1/3 of the human race. Referring to anyone as a "bloodline" of people that long ago is stupid - everyone in Europe would, by now, most likely count Jesus as a descendant.

Of course, I have my doubts about Jesus as an non-fiction character as it is, so... ;)

Skye, when Jesus was around the Romans wrote several thingsat the time in scrolls still existing today. Pretty much things about how he was upsetting them with inciting people to worship only one God. Since the Romans knew better, (there being many gods) this was on the level of treason to them. Besides the fact that one of those gods was the Emperor. That made it High Treason.

I've read some of these scrolls, to my dismay, because one of the ones against Jesus was the Emperor Claudius, who became loveable to me through Derek Jacobi's performance. Yet scrolls also show Claudius decided to clear out Jesus's followers, and persecuted many of them himself, having them exiled, amongst them the wife of one of his Senators, who herself became a Christian and it was reported about her going to their meetings in the caves.

The Dna of the said bloodline, (Merovingian royalty) descending from Mary Magdelene and Jesus was tested, from a bone sample from a Merovingian Queen was found to be without trace of Aramaic in it, but plenty of Euro. Though many ancestors have come and gone we still will reflect the distant past in our dna.

Not to worry, Skye! We're all Jesus's children, don't you know?

(Barb, I'm just psycho but close enough...)

Bah, we're all of Tiamat's brood.

If you look at media today, you can see that the validity of our knowledge about two thousand years ago is irrefutably small.
You'd have just as much chance guessing the moral of Jesus’ character, as you would the color of his toothbrush. These ancient profits are nothing more then composite characters. Jesus wasn’t white, he was a Palestinian Jew, and Buddha wasn't fat, that image was created hundreds of years after his death, but it doesn't matter. People praise a white Jesus, and they make statues of a fat Buddha. I find it hard to believe anyone cares anymore what "really" happened. It's obvious the truth isn’t going to make any lasting impressions, especially if it can’t be substantiated. OYE!

Ancient profits or prophets?

lol, sorry

I'm afraid if the spell check doesn't get it, it's lost on me. ;)
