Whoa.... I have to admit to being really impressed by how this looks, as compared to how mundane (or at least, unrelated to the idea behind Pitch Black) the actual movie version of Riddick looks.

Peter, thank you for coming to the new site! And with such beautiful work! The linework on Riddick has a beautiful flow. I played the trailer and it really has that 'Chung' look. The backgrounds are dark and richly colored and probably half of what it is isn't obvious in the trailer. Riddick himself really has a 'strong' feel. I can't wait to see it. Two weeks is just around the corner!

He exists! Peter, I love the character art, the animation and architectural design, reminds me of old-school Aeon Flux. Looking forward to Riddick: The Summer Blockbuster as well, it looks to put the 'opera' back in 'space opera'. Been craving a good epic.

Thanks, Peter!

two weeks pass...
I just ordered the DVD for Dark Fury. What I've seen looks beautiful. I love dark art like Dory's illustrations for Dante's Inferno. There is something about all that blackness that makes whites and blues represent elemental emotions better in color than in conversation. To work on a project that fundamentally tackles a dark tale, I would like that myself.

Did you finally manage to get out of the house and buy a DVD player Barb? i'm impressed. ;). this is a wonderful site barb. Riddick looks very promising i can't wait to see it.

This was a telephone interview, so there are a lot of transcription mistakes. (e.g. I said Kim Seong-Sik is credited as the assistant director-- though I don't understand how Essman could have been that careless... Also, I said "integral", he wrote "intricate"-- lots of those, though)

The DVD is out today. If you plan on seeing Chronicles of Riddick, I'd recommend seeing Dark Fury first, as the events precede the movie.

And I see this after typing my Riddick review... whoops. ;)

Will watch Dark Fury this evening. Looking forward to the Shrills. Tentacles are love.

Man, I can't wait to see this movie. Paul, how'd you get it so soon? Tell us about it. This article is really informative. Must be cool, making a movie.

Peter, these are not only completely innovative but they are by far the best work we've seen of yours yet. The colors, lines and character designs are truly up there with the best studio art out there, including Madhouse. Or is it Madhouse? I don't know what you call it, but the swirling blue chamber reminiscent of the Grecian Urn is amazing! Did you come up with that idea?

Barb e (Barb e), Saturday, 19 June 2004 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Very nicely done, Peter. Though you didn't write it, Dark Fury reminds me of an Aeon Flux episode, replete with moral dilemmas and despots who create art and design out of the messiness of life (Chillingsworth/Trevor). Riddick seems like an appropriate character for your storytelling intentions, a true anti-hero. Here we are, rooting for a brutal murderer. How interesting...

four months pass...
I was in Walmart the other day and saw a double dvd package of Chronicles of Riddick and Dark Fury for sale. That's doing pretty well, if you ask me.
