I know the joke's on me for not knowing how to prevent it (answer probably being "get a mac and don't use firefox"), but the google language hijacking thing is annoying. There's another one on some thread that's changing it to some other weird language instead of Arabic.

Also why did the thread about this get deleted?

Dan I., Thursday, 9 August 2007 21:53 (sixteen years ago) link

re: google arabic.

I cleared the cookies and it's happening again.

And now my housemate thinks I'm insane.

I think it happens again if you re-visit the thread with the hijacking link in it ("waht is awesome" thread and maybe one other one).

i got arabic firefox google too!

get bent, Friday, 10 August 2007 05:37 (sixteen years ago) link

Does this only happen with google.com ? Cause I can't force it to go to the US site, it redirects to com.au for me :/

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Coulier#Trivia

His famous tagline is "Come on now, cut-it-out!," complete with hand motions and voices. He introduced it while on the comedy show Out of Control but used it regularly on Full House. He has been asked to stop ever since.

is that wikivandalism?

CIO MY BOSS BEING INSANE

David:

I just wanted to let you know that I was looking over your file and noticed that you have missed 8 days this past year due to sickness. Please note that you do not have any vacation due and owing now until January of 2008. I wanted you to know this.

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Seems he's just trying to pre-empt you trying to take time off. Hardly insane, just strict. I think.

kv_nol, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

i've been here a year and had one vacation day. our 'sick policy' does not exist; there is merely an 'absenteeism' policy that says that 'unsatisfactory attendence' will result in 'disciplinary action and/or discharge and will have an adverse impact on promotional considerations.'

the 8 sick days are over the course of an entire year, not since january

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

cio my roommate who is *one month* late paying deposit to former roommate (in a text message): "I've been at work all day. I'd appreciate it if you'd let me deal with it mysel. I thought I made that pretty clear."

Also, not claiming to have received email asking for bill money.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

That seems batshit (xp).

Also, fwiw, the one redeeming of my old employer was that, for as skimpy they were with the vacation days, they had an "infinite sick days" policy. If you abused it, they'd cotton on pretty quickly, so better to let people stay home when they're ill than penalize them for it by eating up vacation time.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

deej those were my hours, too, and that was on a regular day. i'd often have to stick around until 7 or 8. doing nothing, mind, but since everyone else had to stick around, i had too, too.

...i figured out that i was making something like $12/hr. WAHT

xp yeah, FINISH HIM IT!

i kinda wish i had one sometimes tho. but not really. we'll see when the infinite stress of self-employment takes me down. at least thesis stress has end in v close sight. which brings me to:

bnw, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:17 (sixteen years ago) link

omg I know that feeling, xpost. I recommend ramen.

Please god let a master's degree actually result in more $$$.

jessie monster, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

it will if you know how to 'sell it', for sure
my advice: don't get caught up in working/jobs/other opportunities/people/etc and end up spending over three years on it. focus, do, complete, go!

$10/day for food seems like luxury livin to me - but i pretty much just buy groceries and never eat out :/
