I hope shit gets better, Trayce.

Pashmina, Monday, 13 August 2007 12:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Pash OTM on both counts!

CIO Bimble, apropos of absolutely nothing on Daft Punk Live thread:

I want to know if people frequenting this thread know that Tony Wilson has died and who he was. Thanx

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

That is remarkably adolescent!

CIO MY BOSS BEING INSANE

David:

I just wanted to let you know that I was looking over your file and noticed that you have missed 8 days this past year due to sickness. Please note that you do not have any vacation due and owing now until January of 2008. I wanted you to know this.

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Seems he's just trying to pre-empt you trying to take time off. Hardly insane, just strict. I think.

kv_nol, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:51 (sixteen years ago) link

i've been here a year and had one vacation day. our 'sick policy' does not exist; there is merely an 'absenteeism' policy that says that 'unsatisfactory attendence' will result in 'disciplinary action and/or discharge and will have an adverse impact on promotional considerations.'

the 8 sick days are over the course of an entire year, not since january

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 15:59 (sixteen years ago) link

cio my roommate who is *one month* late paying deposit to former roommate (in a text message): "I've been at work all day. I'd appreciate it if you'd let me deal with it mysel. I thought I made that pretty clear."

Also, not claiming to have received email asking for bill money.

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link

That seems batshit (xp).

Also, fwiw, the one redeeming of my old employer was that, for as skimpy they were with the vacation days, they had an "infinite sick days" policy. If you abused it, they'd cotton on pretty quickly, so better to let people stay home when they're ill than penalize them for it by eating up vacation time.

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:05 (sixteen years ago) link

my job is making me take more time off

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:08 (sixteen years ago) link

our work day is 830 to 6

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

wtf

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

my workday is like noon to 7... maybe

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:09 (sixteen years ago) link

?!?!

OK, Deej, sounds like quittin' time.

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:11 (sixteen years ago) link

polish off the resume!

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

deej those were my hours, too, and that was on a regular day. i'd often have to stick around until 7 or 8. doing nothing, mind, but since everyone else had to stick around, i had too, too.

...i figured out that i was making something like $12/hr. WAHT

xp yeah, FINISH HIM IT!

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

resumetality

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:13 (sixteen years ago) link

this is the plan.

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:21 (sixteen years ago) link

cio feeling of trapped-ness in job :(

deej, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:26 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay Deej, with the context that is batshit!

kv_nol, Monday, 13 August 2007 16:33 (sixteen years ago) link

ugh jobs
i kinda wish i had one sometimes tho. but not really. we'll see when the infinite stress of self-employment takes me down. at least thesis stress has end in v close sight. which brings me to:

cut it out my freaky back & forth btwn being chill and being all neurosis and perfectionism

rrrobyn, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:10 (sixteen years ago) link

I NEED A JOB

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:15 (sixteen years ago) link

i need either a weekend job or somehow to only spend $10 on food a day.

it's hard, i'm already at $6.50!

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:16 (sixteen years ago) link

cio 3 hour class x 3 days a week on top of work

bnw, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:17 (sixteen years ago) link

omg I know that feeling, xpost. I recommend ramen.

Please god let a master's degree actually result in more $$$.

jessie monster, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:19 (sixteen years ago) link

it will if you know how to 'sell it', for sure
my advice: don't get caught up in working/jobs/other opportunities/people/etc and end up spending over three years on it. focus, do, complete, go!

$10/day for food seems like luxury livin to me - but i pretty much just buy groceries and never eat out :/

rrrobyn, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:24 (sixteen years ago) link

i bought a pretty nice whole (uncooked) chicken today for like $3.50! b/c it has to be cooked today. which i will do.

rrrobyn, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:26 (sixteen years ago) link

what are you getting your master's in jessie? most likely it will...

i'm going to just end up eating lots of noodles, rice, beans, kale, sausage, stir-fries, curries. no more eating out. it can be done!

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:27 (sixteen years ago) link

the luxury of living alone is way more important than the luxury of spending $2.50 on a cinnamon bun

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:30 (sixteen years ago) link

TRUTH
you will be healthier in all ways!

rrrobyn, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:32 (sixteen years ago) link

isn't it going to be funny when canada money is worth more than ours?

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

I just spent $15 on lunch

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

Catsupppppppppppppp dude 茄蕃, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

My lunch limit is $5. It's pretty written in stone.

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:36 (sixteen years ago) link

haha canada money!

one way to not eat out very often is to become gastro-sensitive to everything!
(though damn, cinnamon buns... i won't even tell you how i approximate a non-grain non-dairy non-sugar version.)
(i feel like 75% of my life is all abt guts lately. cio life being all abt guts.)

rrrobyn, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:37 (sixteen years ago) link

you guys make me want to never graduate college

max, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:40 (sixteen years ago) link

gah, i really need to learn to stop eating out/drinking

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:40 (sixteen years ago) link

My life has been all about guts since age 14.

I am going to Toronto this weekend! But poor exchange rates mean I will not be able to plunder CD stores freely:(

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:41 (sixteen years ago) link

im going out to eat a lot and buying a ton of clothes this year before i have to start paying rent

max, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Do you write freelance, rrrobyn? Just the science? Is is this bad? http://www.rbcinvest.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/PEstory/LAC/20070809/RUSSELL09/Columnists/columnists/columnistsThearts/1/1/1/

CIO: governments funding three times more PhDs in physics than there are jobs in physics.
CIO: baby boom academics living so long.
KIU: taking PhD and working in finance seeming not just tolerable but actually kinda fun.

caek, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:43 (sixteen years ago) link

the exchange rate was almost 1:1 when i visited canada at some point over the last year!

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:44 (sixteen years ago) link

haha finance is kinda fun at an academic level, anyways.

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:45 (sixteen years ago) link

top 5 ways to save assloads of money IMO--

Drink at home/at friend's houses
Don't smoke cigarettes
Don't own car
Cook food at home
Use public library constantly

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:46 (sixteen years ago) link

caek my friend just got his MS in physics, fully intending to go into finance because they like brainiacs.

cio me considering ditching the whole med school thing and trying to be a mountain guide/writer instead (it'll never work!)

WHAT IS DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOUNTAIN GUIDE/ARTIST/MUSICICICIAN AND LARGE DOMINO'S PIZZA?

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:48 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah bars are out too.
i don't smoke but i need to cut out my iced coffee habit.
i'm going to see if i can get away with the car. i have it registered out of state so my insurance and stuff are really low.

bell_labs, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

i am seriously considering quitting drinking altogether in order to save some money.

river wolf, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:50 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't know RW, what is the difference between etc etc?

Jon Lewis, Monday, 13 August 2007 17:51 (sixteen years ago) link
