Someone should make a jukebox where you dock your ipod and pay like 25 cents to play something off of it and it copies it over to the play queue

Polysix Bad Battery (cprek), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

That wd be awesome, but you'd have to get an ipod.

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

Of course, it'd also have to let bartenders configure ID3 filters.

the internet jukebox at one of the normal-ish DCILDRINX bars has a ton of impulse stuff (awful idea: including live in seattle), the entire jack johnson sessions box, and at least the first two blue cheer albums.

ULTIMATE PAYBACK = PUT THIS ON 5X AND LEAVE BAR/RESTAURANT (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

oh, i had to listen to in a jungle groove and funky people vol. 1 like 6X each last week...i might have to go back...

right now rocking parsons sound...

bb (bbrz), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

that reminds of my friend in college who would stick five dollars in the jukebox and put U Cant Touch This on 15 times and Pray 10 times. we'd stick around for the hilarity.

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, well, I have NO IDEA why I thought some national music service would have the Bats/Pylon/Orange Juice/Pernice Bros/Richard Hell/Go-Betweens/Jonathan Richman or more than a cursory assortment of Kinks and it's pretty lame that I couldn't think of anything else, but I was like two-thirds in the bag!

Laurel (Laurel), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

the payback is like 20 minutes long IIRC?\

JW (ex machina), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 20:17 (nineteen years ago)

at least its a good song the first two times

jinx hijinks (sanskrit), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

we did that with a jukebox that had dr. dre's "the chronic" on it, except the track that repeated was a skit, "$20 sack pyramid"

wow, he has the Igor Wakhevitch records up on that blog! sweet. i own the box-set, so i have no need, but other noize dudes should listen if they haven't heard them. especially docteur faust.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

that blog may have singlehandedly changed my opinion of blogs.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 03:50 (nineteen years ago)

also, mind the pop ups, but there's plenty of bolly gold to be mined here.
Those Indian movie music sites come up and go down ultra fast; this one still seems to have live links for everything I checked, tho.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 03:53 (nineteen years ago)

Aces Milton.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

this is kind of weird: i just downloaded some igot wakhevitch albums last night, and only saw this thread this morning.

killy ii (baby lenin pin), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 09:43 (nineteen years ago)

ok, i guess it's not that weird, but i don't usually see his name popping up on here. i remember someone saying a couple years ago that he is now some professor somewhere of classical indian music, or something along those lines... does anyone have any idea what i'm talking about? i couldn't get anything on google.

killy ii (baby lenin pin), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

great link, though rapidshare is like the worst of the filesharing sites

last I heard, wakhevitch was living on some remote island in the Pacific (or maybe India?), but really don't know anything. I got a friend of mine to translate the liner notes of the box for me, but it was very little bio, mostly stuff that would make Ian Penman's Scott Walker press stuff seem very straightforward

SPOON.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

user 'confucius' posted that link on this thread

I hadn't heard the feldman or the borboudakis.

8 days in april has tons of great stuff too, though he needs to archive, page takes forever to load and it'll crash you on a slow system

rapidshare is definitely the worst, though it's the only one I know of that keeps files up indefinitely

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

there are tons of sites...psychedelic cinamon being my current place to plunder..rapid ahare annoying, but really how much can you handle in a day

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 17:02 (nineteen years ago)

seriously, I almost appreciate the limit

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

only truely bad when whole albums are posted together and posted in like 10 parts...like the cure reissues i grabbed last week...i just wanted the bonus discs but had to download 14 parts...

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Sister Rosetta Tharpe is good.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

though it's the only one I know of that keeps files up indefinitely

yep it seems to handle big files better than others and doesnt expire so fast

but the click yes / enter password bs is annoying

Three O'Clock - Arrive Without Travelling (yeah, they speeled it with two Ls) - what a fucking amazing record
-- Tim Ellison (thefriendlyfriendlybubbl...) (webmail), May 12th, 2006 5:51 AM.

food - forever is a dream
aleister crowley - the enochian sessions (bought but not listened to yet)

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:27 (nineteen years ago)

The count-down and password stuff on Rapidshare doesn't bother me, but having to wait an hour and a half between each file is infuriating!

Dan I. (Dan I.), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:30 (nineteen years ago)

Ian, you have the Gentle Soul album? I've never heard it.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:34 (nineteen years ago)

i gots a reissue! it was only $8!

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:36 (nineteen years ago)

I have a xerox of a fairly long Sandy Pearlman review of it from Fusion magazine.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

It's pleasant. Sometimes the lyrics are a bit too earnest/clunky for my liking. Van Dyke Parks plays some nice harpsichord on one or two of the tracks.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)

I got it this afternoon, so this is my only second listen through now. I'll get back to you. Ry Cooder is on it, but I'll be damned if I can figure out where.

electro-acoustic lycanthrope (orion), Thursday, 25 May 2006 01:37 (nineteen years ago)
