Britpop was like 60s psych pop, 70s symphonic rock, the more subtle 70s glam rock and 80s new romantics/synthpop in that it didn't want to choose between commerse and art. It say "Yes, please" to both. Just like The Beatles, Yes, David Bowie and Human League had done previously.

This is a very typical British thing as American acts tend to choose either commerse all the way or uncompromised experimentation.

Dunno much about George Strait actually, but I am pretty sure he has more musical talent than anyone with the surname Beckham has ever had. He may be a bit behind in the image/icon bit though...

And as much as I freaking love NEU! and realise that the Stereolab track is a total cop of Hallogallo - I do actually prefer Jenny Ondioline because the only way that Hallogallo could POSSIBLY be any better would be if they stuck some icy cool female harmony vocals over the top and lo and behold... JENNY ONDIOLINE is the winner.

Man, Twista sucked. I don't think anyone good could
ever be influenced by him.
I think Outkast and Busta represent the outer limit
of rapping speed, anything faster sounds mechanical
and cheesy (well, Busta does, sometimes) but even
they don't rap fast 100% nonstop.

Yeah, Gift is great, but that's the only track on _Blazing

Since we're on the topic of the Blackalicious album, did anyone
else catch the reference to "Kobaia chronicles" in one of the link
tracks? I almost DIE when I hear that, I love it SO MUCH!!

For the uninitiated, Kobaia was an imaginary world created by
the french prog band Magma. They helpfully reviewed the
history of Kobaia on several classic LP's, which they
sung in the native language of Kobaia, Kobaian.

Well I hate the Wire and I haven't seen it. Seems like one of those smug things, something to signify to people that you have an s.o. to snuggle up with on the couch and watch a DVD set with. For starters. And if it sympathizes with narcs I'm just not there.

Half-serious.
