CIO a friend being shitty about the fact that I don't want to house a stray kitten for two days when no one knows whether it has fleas, it hasn't been washed, and I won't be there to deal with it. Apparently cruelty to animals/my friends is "just (my) nature".

She said if she can't find a home for it until Sunday, it will be killed. Jesus Christ, roommate already agreed, they're doing it over my objections. I really hate people sometimes.

rescuing cats is great and everything, but it takes a little more dedication than dumping them on your friends, wtf?!

went through something like this lately. (un)fortunately the kittie (who was taken to a clinic, had like 5 major diseases/problems) ran off, so i didn't have to keep explaining that i can't have pets in my apartment, can't afford a kittie, etc.

also has she never heard of no kill shelters?

most if not all of the no-kill shelters in nyc are full at the moment...

barc is ALWAYS full. if anything, if you can, go get a kitty from there.

To be fair she has rescued MANY animals over the years, in fact all of her 3-4 cats were rescues. She has the dedication, I just don't want to be involved. I don't really LIKE cats, plus 3rd roomie is out of town but v allergic. Hopefully all dander is gone before he gets back.

I asked "Has it been washed? Does anyone know whether it has fleas?" and she said "It's a STREET CAT, Laurel. NO, it doesn't have fleas."

it'd be mad unfair and uncool to adopt a kittie without your roommates' approval, allergies or no.

I'm sure kitteh is totally totally adorable but I moved into this apartment largely because I was promised there would NEVER be cats allowed.

there is a library in wburg on devoe st that always has about 15 cats hanging around outside. they feed them, and they are all really chubby.

actually there were TONS of strays where i used to live in wburg, and occasionally they would follow me or mel home and we'd have to talk each other of the ledge.

you can't rescue every stray, jeez.

ALSO DO NOT WANT GUILT FROM FRIENDS. I am not being "shitty" if I don't want to house a stray cat, you crazy cat lady -- there are enough unwanted animals in the world that I don't need to save this one.

:D Nno no the person who has 4 cats is my neighbor, not roommate. It turns out Whit agreed to shelter it for two days but not HAPPILY, which is how it was told to me. And not for any longer. One of her friends might take it off our hands right away which would make it a moot point, but if not we agree on a date and then it has to GO.

Friend is weasel for going behind your back to work on roommate instead.
