dream catalogue seems pretty cool, so much stuff out this year i want to hear. i really like these albums:

https://dreamcatalogue.bandcamp.com/album/the-games-we-play
https://dreamcatalogue.bandcamp.com/album/into-dreams

this is a cool comp (not on dream catalogue)
https://hi-hi-whoopee.bandcamp.com/album/meili-xueshan-i-ii

and i've really been digging this Contact Lens stuff from a few years back.. basically just warmed over screwed r&b/rap instrumentals, but very effervescent and warm.

yeah i mean the genre is epigonal by nature but i just love it

clouds, Friday, 11 December 2015 20:40 (eight years ago) link

yes lots of good albums from them this year - i think Hong Kong Express - HK is my fave of the year

Mordy, Friday, 11 December 2015 20:46 (eight years ago) link

the best is the stuff that captures a real feeling of strangeness... ambiguous emotions .. urban Waldeinsamkeit

been listening to 18 carat affair's pleasure control quite a bit lately; it's like riding in the mall elevator for fifteen minutes in a good way.

Does that make you mutter, under your breath, “Damn”? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 11 December 2015 21:37 (eight years ago) link

18CA is a genius; wish he was more active

vaporwave is starting to sound a lot like late 90s/early 2000s French house. wonder if it's the younger set's idea of nostalgia, which makes me feel a little old.

larry appleton, Thursday, 24 December 2015 03:41 (eight years ago) link

there's a lot of vaporwave with trap sounds as well (um vektroid hello), it's just sounds, m8

have started to see the more daft punk-y end of things tagged "future funk" pretty often

nmesh has been on fire these past couple of years
the entirety of dream sequins is worth checking out

nxd, Wednesday, 20 January 2016 09:41 (eight years ago) link

yes

from the perspective of a gay man, i will post them now (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 20 January 2016 14:29 (eight years ago) link

that nmesh album is amazing, as is his fact mix from last year. it definitely helps that he's an older fsol/orb obsessive instead of a 19 year old internet personality.

absolutely adore the first giant claw record (dark web)
struggled to get into deep thoughts in the same way :(

nxd, Friday, 29 January 2016 09:49 (eight years ago) link

deep thoughts sounds the way i imagined all vaporwave sounding before i listened to any of it

i think most if not all of the sounds are from the same palette as the casio i had growing up

clouds, Friday, 29 January 2016 14:25 (eight years ago) link

i'll invest some more time in it :)

nxd, Friday, 29 January 2016 14:27 (eight years ago) link

one month passes...

Have been listening to this most of the morning:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuEdKcbNnXM

I don't remember being this nostalgic when I was this young.... but maybe I was and have just forgotten?

Dominique, Friday, 15 April 2016 16:00 (eight years ago) link

is that sampled from something?

ejemplo (crüt), Friday, 15 April 2016 16:06 (eight years ago) link

seems like it would have to be. apparently, the crowd ambiance is actually field recordings by the producer, but not sure if music is too, or he found it elsewhere. If it was actually music he made and produced, that would actually raise this stuff to something pretty cool, like the bassist stuff posted above, but with ambient filtering

enjoying the EATQS album

nxd, Thursday, 5 May 2016 10:43 (eight years ago) link

^sounds good!

Been enjoying these, not drone or ambient at all, but almost a disco-edit/filter disco take on vaporwave:

Dan Mason - Miami Virtual 2.0
https://dmtrec.bandcamp.com/album/miami-virtual-20

悲しい ANDROID - APARTMENT¶ - With me, Without you

can't stop playing the bit 1:05 into the first track on Floral Shoppe where the sax solo comes in and just immediately gets all distended and out of tune. it really makes me laugh.

A good vaporwave album is ライフMIDI - VIRTUAL REALITY '97 「PLATINUM EDITION」 - can listen to the whole thing here

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WM7bGb4-N5A

It is a bit too on-the-nose but I do like it when these guys try to naturally freak you out rather than distort every third bar or whatever

this genre was awesome. i especially liked how 80% of the notable releases seem to come from vektroid under various aliases.
