The Boards of Canada are overrated by WATMM posters aka aspie rube shutins who obsessively collect VST plugins and have approximately 6 artists in their music collection not on warp or astralwerks.

last night I got approached by some dude who was trying to sell people his self-produced bedroom hip hop record and his opening gambit was "do you like music?!?" thanks to ILX I was able to quickly quip "not since 1999"

Start w/ Dirty Dozen Brass Band, then maybe that SoulJazz comp of New Orleans funk. Lot of cross over I think. So far as current bands are concerned, not sure since the city barely exists anymore. Early Dr. John is worth checking too.

it seriously makes me want to weep at how great this is, this must have been how peasants in the 1600s felt when they went to venice and saw a michaelangelo or raphael for the first time... i mean, i want to call it the perfect summer song, and it is, but its unbelieavle at any time, its just a perfect song full stop

most of the really poppy disco was in fact pretty terrible, it was the underground stuff stuff that was mostly decent. by the time the more r+b sounding boogie came into being, it was pretty good all around, both the poppy stuff and the underground stuff. but i definitely see a difference in the "integrity" of the two styles, much disco was made as a cash in while boogie was kind of just an extension of soul music which was always okay with being popular but i dont think it was its primary objective.

― J0rdan S., Monday, 17 March 2008 04:19 (seventeen years ago)
haha though having listened to it about 9x straight now i remember one of my earliest radio experiences w/ it, driving home from church & hearing it charting way high up on casey kasem's top 40 - my dad turned it off about 30 seconds in with an "ok, thats enough"
i tell a friend about it next day & he sez "you know what that songs about dont you?" "no." "TEEN DRUGS AND SEX." "what??" "yeah thats what they said on tv."
― deeznuts, Monday, 17 March 2008 04:33 (seventeen years ago)

the number of people who would vote for somebody just because he/she is black is probably roughly equal to the number of people who would vote for somebody just because she is female
