Which one did you hear first and which one is the most krautakular?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

1992!!!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

don't know the first one.

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's see... in order:

Thin White Rope - "Yoo Doo Right" - 1992
Th' Faith Healers - "Mother Sky" - 1992
Trumans Water - "The Sad Skinhead" - 1993
Stereolab - "Jenny Ondioline" - 1993

Most Krautakular was my cut-up of Trumans Water's "The Sad Skinhead" w/ Isao Tomita's "The Gnome" live on air in 1994. DAS IST EIN KRAUTRAUK.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

adam, you should SLSK out the first one, or actually look around for that record ("silver sack" or something), it's pretty nice (and local).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Local is good!

adam. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i saw that petrol emotion do mother sky live once. it was really good. voice of the beehive opened up. alas, the beehive didn't bust out any guru guru tracks.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

But what year Scott?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I heard the Stereolab song first ... who are Thin White Rope? If their "Yoo Doo Right" cover is less than 12 minutes long then please do not bother answering this question.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

GYGAX! you forget Kendra Smith's version of "She Brings Teh Rain", released in .. pa rum pum -- 1992!

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never heard that. Now answer the question (feel free to add it to the answers list), OR ELSE!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

OK

um, I never heard the Thin White Rope or Trumans Water cuts, so I'll go with th' Faith Healers. JUST TO SPITE TIM ELLISON.

also, I'm pretty sure I heard that first as I got it when it came out. I like how all your selections are actual cover version except the Stereolab.

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sure you know, but much of "Jenny Ondioline" is very, very similar to parts of "HalloGallo" off of NEU!. Stereolab wasn't as gracious with their sampling credits as the others.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

no I know -- I liked your IMPLICIT CRITIQUE

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Roy, I liekd th' Faith Healers.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 21:45 (twenty-one years ago)

How come nobody is answering the question!!!

Of the above songs, which one did you hear first and which one is the most krautakular?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i heard faith healers first...but the stereolab song is v. v. good.

DEEBZ (ddb), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

first and most krautakular: thin white rope "yoo do right"

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Just remembered Barbara Manning's cover of Amon Duul UK's "Marcus Leid" on 1212 (1997) which is really, really great.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Since nobody has answered my question, I assume that Thin White Rope did some kind of five minute chopped up version, and so they are not worth my time.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's around 7-8 minutes... You should give it a listen if you're so inclined.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:18 (twenty-one years ago)

don't forget Barbara also did Faust's "Flashback Caruso" in 1995, which gets us that much closer to that magical year of 1992

Roy Williams Highlight (diamond), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I can't remember what year, Gygax. 1992? That Petrol Emotion also had a live version of Mother Sky on a single. I can't remember if I heard it before I heard that Faith Healers album though. TPE also did a song from Daydream Nation when I saw them that time. It might have been the year thatDaydream Nation came out. That Petrol Emotion were kinda crappy except for the first album. Their american singer was kinda doofy. but i always dug those doodz from the undertones on guitar. they got greatguitar sounds on that first album.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 14 October 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

7-8 MINUTE VERSIONS OF "YOO DOO RIGHT" DO NOT COMPUTE

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

the worst version of "Yoo Doo Right" is by the Geraldine Fibbers.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 14 October 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure if I have heard any of these songs. Except maybe "Mother Sky" but did anyoen else cover that? I heard that in 94/95 when my friend Mary played it on ehr radio show, and later we went to her house and listened ot her dad's copy of the original.
