GO AHEAD AND DELETE THIS FUCKING THREAD TOO IF YOU WANT! MY QUESTION WAS WTF W/ NOISE DUDES' GENERATION. 17% VOTER TURNOUT--YEAH, THAT'S REALLY FUCKING GREAT. I OFFERED CONGRATULATIONS TO THIS GENERATION FOR BEING PARTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR KERRY'S LOSS. I SEE THEM AS (GENERALLY SPEAKING FOR FUCK SAKE) BRAINDEAD FUCKING MORONS.

is there a Generation Noize Dude? Isn't everyone in some kind of school/law school/professional career anyway? What is our new country going to be called?

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 20:41 (twenty years ago)

Isn't everyone in some kind of school/law school/professional career anyway?

HA HA ZING

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Our country moto: WHY U BREAK HEART ALL THE TIME.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 20:53 (twenty years ago)

Man, fuck you. I voted. The majority of my friends voted. It's not a failure of the youth, it's a failure of the media and of the political parties in reaching out to the youth where it counts. Many kids my age still do not understand how politics effect them, don't think that they talk about enough issues that directly affect them, etc. Yes, it's disappointing that even with all the new registrations, we only made up enough to keep the status quo of voting 18-24 year olds, but the only movement reaching out to them was the grass roots movement. So stick the finger you're pointing with up your ass.

Love,
G3N3R4TI0N NOIZE

DOPESMOKER (smile), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 20:55 (twenty years ago)

I'll point my fucking finger wherever I want, asshole. 17% turnout is fucking pathetic. Your points about "oh, the candidates didn't reach out to the youth" is a bunch of CRAP. The truth was plain as fucking day and THEY DID NOT CARE.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:48 (twenty years ago)

I only bring it up anyway because the only way that there is going to be a change in the psychological make-up of this country is if younger generations wise up. It ain't happening.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:51 (twenty years ago)

There is only one way, huh?

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:52 (twenty years ago)

I don't know of another.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:55 (twenty years ago)

I agree fully that we can do better but to *blame* the loss on the youth is absurd. Wait till the draft is reinstated. They'll wise up quickly then.

DOPESMOKER (smile), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I guess if you believe that the "noise dude generation" would be a guaranteed majority for Kerry, then it flaws the rest of your logic too. (xp)

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 21:56 (twenty years ago)

No, I'm saying that they should have voted and should have voted for Kerry for fuck sake!

Also: I said "partly to blame" (for fuck sake).

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:01 (twenty years ago)

Everyone who didn't vote for Kerry (obviously a minority) is "partly to blame" then so that is a pretty meaningless statement.

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:03 (twenty years ago)

You're losing me. A majority of people did not vote for Kerry.

If there are stats that show that a, say, 80-90% turnout for a hypothetically less stupid 18-24 year old voting base would not have tipped the election for Kerry, then fine.

In any case, yes, American voters are to blame.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:18 (twenty years ago)

TIM YOU ARE MENTAL.

ALLMUSIC.COM (ddb), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Sorry. Yeah, I meant "majority."

Anyhow, I would rather that only educated voters turned out to the polls whether they be young or old. It is kind of silly to get worked up about this mythical Kerry youth base that was too lazy to vote. If they were too lazy to vote why would they waste their energy or time to be even somewhat educated on a particular candidate?

American voters are to blame. Americans are to blame. People are to blame etc etc etc etc.

Dan Quisenberry (deangulberry), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I don't think a mythical Kerry youth base exists, but I would really like to know WHY.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:36 (twenty years ago)

The young voter turnout was not 17%, rather, young voters were 17% of the total electorate. Around 35% of 18-24 yr-olds voted, same as in 2000.

It's still a low number.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 3 November 2004 22:39 (twenty years ago)

so, i'm assuming a bunch of us here are sorta political in many ways.

is that because of our connection to punk?

theories?

how can we encourage "the kids"? (including those of roughly our age... "the kids" has always been a sort of term of brother+sisterhood from where i came from... "come on palatka, do it for the kids!!!")

i got political from skateboarding and hating the cops at that age for wrecking our innocent fun. that and fuckin poverty in the 80s... but i digress. i hate to be one of these types, but "minor threat" kinda changed my life. or at least accompanied a change.

but but but...

how does caring reach out of the underground?

votes for sex? how the hell did the hippies do it?
