Today, in the shower, I was asked to DJ a party at the campus pub!

Student government friend was in the next shower! NO JOKE.

OK, Guys! I need to know how I should go about making a music collection big enough to really DJ from. Should I just buy the entire discogrpahies of every seminal New Wave band ever? Every Parliament record? Are people selling their Fischerspooner cds yet?

Also, anyone know a US distributer for Comma Label?

I have a bit of microhouse. I'm not sure I like dancehall. I dig on some soul though. What you reccomend?

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 16:51 (twenty years ago)

If I like Innervisions, what else will I like?

this thread has helped me get into soul a lot lately. i stand behind everything listed on it that i've gotten ahold of. typical stuff. isley bros, isaac hayes, curtis mayfield, sly & the family stone etc.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 22:54 (twenty years ago)

gygax you have such bizarre taste in dance music! I don't mean that as an insult, but just from a Euro perspective it breaks through so many snobbery barriers, I mean Zombie Nation was a huge hit over here, to the extent that nobody I know who likes say, Closer Musik, would ever ever ever admit to liking it.

"Zombie Nation" for a while was a popular ringtone among the kind of person you'd be afraid of getting stabbed by on the bus.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 23:00 (twenty years ago)

i hear what you're saying but the first minute of two of the original mix is WAYYYYYYY different than that stadium house mix that you heard at football games back in the day. the beginning makes a great mix track (not to mention the melody on the original mix is really cold and robotic rather than warm and chanty).

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 23:09 (twenty years ago)

No I love it, don't get me wrong, it's actually kind of fucked up, it's electroclash to me but it was a massive hit here really early on, the cold original version! It has a video of some mad scientist with green hair, ultra low budget euro style.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 10 November 2004 23:11 (twenty years ago)

ha, nice! i need to track it down.
