Men's Recovery Project was some folkx from Born Against and some other dudes.. Sam McPheeters was in the band for a while. The MRP stuff maybe isn't even really hardcore.. but it's really great, mostly. Their LP Bolides Over Basra is still an all time favorite.

anyway, i got this dvd in the mail by the band Failure, unreleased stuff and video and I had never heard them before in my life. And supposedly they were hugely influential and all this shit to bands like Cave-In and the like. see, i missed stuff. (although the stuff wasn't that great that i got in the mail. kinda grungey/shoegazery stuff. but not bad, i guess.)

the one Das Oath track i heard was good stuff. that band's like a supergroup yes? (supergroup in the members of 90s hardcore bands sort of sense.)
everybody wants to be converge and dep these days to some degree. hell, after i joined the band i'm in, i found out we have a "CONVERGE" song, which i promptly renamed "Charging Modifier"...(dnd ref.) and urged that converge never be spoken again...cause hell, the song is pretty good. but ugh, yeah, many of the nashville metal/hardcore/whatever bands want to invoke something in between converge and like... poison the well or something. it just reminds me of how the hairbands were 15 or so years ago... all image and licks, no art.
? ? what do i know tho?
palatka was great. sometimes i think better in person than on record though. imagine that, a hardcore band better in person than on record. [hee haw!]m.

One of my good friends and band members was an intern at Relapse this summer and he pretty much has free range to walk in there and take whatever he wants.

i get stuff from relapse. and i certainly love relapse/release, you know? (even if i was a little disappointed by the store they opened up in philly. sometimes they were out of relapse releases!!! and it was kinda silly to check in there and end up having to go to the indie spaceboy store to buy a khanate record, you know??!! whussupwitdat? they should have let me run it. the idea of running the greatest metal record store on the east coast really appeals to me for some reason. ah well, too late now.)
anyway, that album by The End was real DEP/Converge stuff and i didn't really dig it. Though plenty of people did. And Uphill Battle on Relapse is another one. I think i just prefer bad death/black metal to bad metalcore stuff.

root cause:
a) is the noise, weirdo stuff most of us are into too weird for anybody to show up and therefore, unbookable?
or
b) are the management types around here clueless fools?
