hahaha! yoo r yung. i was expecting some ssd or dri. i've hardly heard ANY of the stuff you listed. now i wanna hear it all. i musta missed the 90's.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

you should at least know LOS CRUDOS and MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT!

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i've only ever heard indian summer and frail. what do these sound like?

DOPESMOKER (smile), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Men's Recovery Project years ago when they played with BunnyBrains at Astrocade in PHILLY, but they already sounded like Kraftwerk by then. I've always meant to buy all their cds but something always comes up. weren't they related to Born Against in some way too? I'm gonna buy all those band's cds. I think it's a good idea to listen to 90's hardcore. I missed it all. My friend Bull was in Policy Of 3!!! That was the 90's!! Does anyone remember them? I listened to lots of metal and doom and disco and 60's stuff in the 90's, i think. I listened to Eyehategod a lot in the 90's. They were my heroes.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I need to buy everything by all those 90's powerviolence bands too. i'll catch up eventually.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I have the Policy of 3 LP Scott! I like it!

Men's Recovery Project was some folkx from Born Against and some other dudes.. Sam McPheeters was in the band for a while. The MRP stuff maybe isn't even really hardcore.. but it's really great, mostly. Their LP Bolides Over Basra is still an all time favorite.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

You should look into Palatka, Scott.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

haha "rodan" + "old hardcore" = TEH LARPING

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

RODAN IS A HARDCORE BAND YOO FULE GYGAX

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

haha, Ian just be thankful that hstencil is on teh road

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I keep telling people to buy that new Das Oath album cuz it's so great, but I don't think anyone will. But they should, it's so friggin' cool. great noisepunkhardcore, so much fun.

anyway, i got this dvd in the mail by the band Failure, unreleased stuff and video and I had never heard them before in my life. And supposedly they were hugely influential and all this shit to bands like Cave-In and the like. see, i missed stuff. (although the stuff wasn't that great that i got in the mail. kinda grungey/shoegazery stuff. but not bad, i guess.)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

It's mindboggling how much stuff i get in the mail that is trying to sound like a) Converge or b) Dillinger Escape Plan.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Das Oath is real good. I'll buy the album if it makes you feel better.

Failure was influential to old/metal Cave In or new/prog/awful Cave In or even newer/confused/metal/prog/whydoallouroldfanshateusandournewfansnotcareanymore?:(

DOPESMOKER (smile), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh. I hate that. Kids with no skills trying to play technical/fast/JAZZZY metalcore. My last band played with this band of kids who couldn't have been more than 16 who would play fast "grindy" parts, then big chug breakdowns, then end on sorry sounding youth crew anthems. Ick.

DOPESMOKER (smile), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

MY CURRENT BAND SOUNDS LIKE MOHINDER MEETS MELT BANANA WITH THE AWESOME FOOTBALL RABBIT DRUM SOUND.

BASS AUTOWAH FUCK YEA

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

does mosh occur?

DOPESMOKER (smile), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

the singer and i usually end up ROFFLing which is safer than moshing

Does John Coltrane Dream of a Merry-go-round? (ex machina), Thursday, 18 November 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i have many 7s from the above... could probably add some faves to the list.

the one Das Oath track i heard was good stuff. that band's like a supergroup yes? (supergroup in the members of 90s hardcore bands sort of sense.)

everybody wants to be converge and dep these days to some degree. hell, after i joined the band i'm in, i found out we have a "CONVERGE" song, which i promptly renamed "Charging Modifier"...(dnd ref.) and urged that converge never be spoken again...cause hell, the song is pretty good. but ugh, yeah, many of the nashville metal/hardcore/whatever bands want to invoke something in between converge and like... poison the well or something. it just reminds me of how the hairbands were 15 or so years ago... all image and licks, no art.

? ? what do i know tho?

palatka was great. sometimes i think better in person than on record though. imagine that, a hardcore band better in person than on record. [hee haw!]

msp (msp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

thank the lord for frail. they lead me to see Bleed and Unbroken back in the day.

brock (brock), Thursday, 18 November 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

m you have a song that sounds like converge?...MP3 PLZ!!!!!!!

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

scott anything u get in the mail that sounds like those 2 bands can be sent to me!

KTHX!!

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

do you want my Throwdown dvd? actually, i haven't watched it all yet. maybe i like Throwdown. Although, I think they sound like Hatebreed. That's actually one thing me and Andrew W.K. both have in common: We both like Hatebreed. (but i don't care for American Nightmare.)

Or mybe you want the horrible Trustkill Video Assault DVD I got with videos from roses are red, bleeding through, eighteen visions, most precious blood, nora, open hand, hopesfall, armsbendback, and poison the well?

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

m you have a song that sounds like converge?...MP3 PLZ!!!!!!!

i'll see what i can do.
m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I was pretty curious about bleeding through...i sampled some stuff today at virgin and it all sounded pretty samey. Poison the Well im not too crazy about either. I dont know the other stuff. But I am sucker for NEU METAL/METAL CORE/TECH METAL.

Hatebreed is ok. I dont really watch Music DVDs...but if you have any CDs you wanna get rid of....Holla at me dog.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

equal vision sends me all their stuff. they are putting out some weird stuff these days. (not always good weird stuff though.)

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Victory is putting out weird (Metally) stuff too. A lot of those labels are coping Relapse's thing right down to the packaging. I'd KILL to be on Relapse's promo list.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Relapse = best label for contemporary metal, no doubt. being on their promo list would indeed be ballz.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

speaking of relapse...high on fire is playing irving plaza on 12/29...w/clutch

fyi

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i will probably be in rhode island.

high on fire fuckin rule, though. i saw them a few years ago. total madness.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn, I'll be home too. I like Hatebreed. It's dumb fun. However I wouldn't liken them to American Nightmare, Hatebreed were the band that set the standard for the whole chugguh chugguh mosh toughman sound wheras AN were trying to take the youth crew sound and expand upon it/make it more emotional or something to that degree.

One of my good friends and band members was an intern at Relapse this summer and he pretty much has free range to walk in there and take whatever he wants.

DOPESMOKER (smile), Thursday, 18 November 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

they seem to have a good beat on some of the weirder stuff happening in europe as well. that dutch sampler had some strange shit on it. (well, by my ears at least.)

xpost on the high on fire... they're playing here as well soon... (other shows of coolness in that style is growing+orthrelm... battles plays monday if i wanna too. and zee vaz show too. actually some stuff to be keen on shortly.)

go see BATTLES!!

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

msp: have you seen orthrelm lately? they started doing a really weird thing with repetition about a year ago; no idea if they're still on that kick... but it fuckin' ruled. let us know how it is, if you go.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

last time i saw battles they was goodness. not what i expected, but worth seeing. hopefully i'll be able to hit all those shows i mentioned. the high on fire one i'm least into. they're great, but fu manchu and clutch are sorta less my thing right now.
m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, american nightmare don't sound like hatebreed. i don't know why i brought them up. i guess cuz they are both big with the kidz. i didn't like the one american nightmare album i had cuz the vocals were waaaaaaaay up front and i couldn't hear the guitars. i hate that. and that is not a problem with hatebreed. their guitars are big and fat and chunky and right alongside the shoutalong vocals.

i get stuff from relapse. and i certainly love relapse/release, you know? (even if i was a little disappointed by the store they opened up in philly. sometimes they were out of relapse releases!!! and it was kinda silly to check in there and end up having to go to the indie spaceboy store to buy a khanate record, you know??!! whussupwitdat? they should have let me run it. the idea of running the greatest metal record store on the east coast really appeals to me for some reason. ah well, too late now.)

anyway, that album by The End was real DEP/Converge stuff and i didn't really dig it. Though plenty of people did. And Uphill Battle on Relapse is another one. I think i just prefer bad death/black metal to bad metalcore stuff.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I am enjoying the new Converge, by the way. I bought that Converge dvd too. There is a lot of friggin' Converge on that thing.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

What did you think of Alabama Thunderpussy?

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I lost interest in Converage circa Jane Doe, just when they were getting interesting. I lost the plot somewhere, getting into the whole noize thing.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

DAMMIT. the growing+orth show is canceled. no venue stepped up. dude, there are SO MANY fucking venues here and so many of them suck. (springwater recently banned noize shows for example.)

root cause:

a) is the noise, weirdo stuff most of us are into too weird for anybody to show up and therefore, unbookable?

or

b) are the management types around here clueless fools?

m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:48 (twenty-one years ago)

when come back, bring exit polls!

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 18 November 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)
