is that the multiinstrumentalist bobby brown who played in his van with his dog in santa barbara in the 70s?

comus is great. i wish tim ellison would come back to add his excellent comus review from 10 years ago.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 19 November 2004 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 20 November 2004 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

please tell me of terry durham?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 20 November 2004 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

linda perhacs - parallelograms

THIS FUCKING RULES.

Search also Vashti Bunyan, Marissa Nadler, Josephine Foster, Black Forest/Black Sea and Karen Dalton.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 20 November 2004 17:01 (twenty-one years ago)

also Buffy Saint Marie "Illuminations". the reviews would make it seem that it's a totally out album, but she only uses the weird tape effects and weirdness in between songs which kinda bummed me out, but for the time the album came out, in such a purist folk scene, it's pretty out there. and a lot of the songs are really "groovy"

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:21 (twenty-one years ago)

also check out Robbie Basho. he plays fingerstyle sorta like John Fahey but with weird low vocals that give it this total spacey edge. i lurve him

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

This reminds me that I still owe JaXoN a CD.

adam... (nordicskilla), Saturday, 20 November 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

YAY!

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

did you listen to any of the stuff i put on that cd yet, adam?

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

gareth, also carrying over from the Mort Garson thread, go get White Noise "An Electric Storm". i thought it wasn't going to be easy to find, but the Amoeba in LA had new copies of it. it's sort of twee 60s pop hippy songs on top of tripped out moog weirdness.

also, listening to Buffy Sainte Marie again and it's really, really good and the trippy moments are great.

JaXoN (JasonD), Saturday, 20 November 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

'laurie spiegel - crying tone'

this is part of her 'four short visits to different worlds', a set of electronic studies collected on (among other things) her 'obsolete systems CD on EMF.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 21 November 2004 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

ian's right about karen dalton. you'd probably like her. we should have a listening party this week.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 22 November 2004 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 22 November 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasnt sure about the white noise lp, it was ok, firebird was the best, but i wasnt as taken with it as with garson

the groop - jet song. this is very good!

*@*.* (gareth), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 12:19 (twenty-one years ago)

it is the vocals, on the white noise record. they detract. they are not mort garson!

tonite, lauren, i shall bring the terry durham cdr, but i have already told you this. the greater question remains, what shall i do with the others?

since they drained the canal (gareth), Thursday, 25 November 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

come over and bring all of the cdrs. i'll trade you mint juleps for music. then we dance. then we call in sick to work.

RAD!

"An Electric Storm in Hell" got reissued on CD abt 5-6 years ago. They pushed the whole "godfather of techno" thing on it at the time, which was + is bullshit, obv.

I saw David Vorhaus of White Noise playing live years and years ago. The performance was synchronised to video images of nature documentaries & naz| rallies (!!)* among other things. He played his "kaleidophon" which was this weird self-built instrument like an elongated bass guitar neck w/stgrips of tape instead of strings. It was amazingly good. Some years later, I saw another White Noise performance advertised, and I was going to go, but it was billed as a collab perf w/gigantick l@ym0ur 4l3x p4tt3erz0n, so I passed.

(*there was no political context to this imagery, he just palyed along w/whatever was on the screen. the bit w/the naz|s was spooky/martial, predictably. But, very well-done.)

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 25 November 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)
