The best show on RI Public Access is the Star Trek show, where the dudes just sit around discussing the continuity and implications of Star Trek re-runs. Some of the same dudes do a more general sci-fi show. Very classic.

Also, some kids I knew in the first half of high school had a public access wrestling show; they were failures at life.

ha ha.

i remember them.

also: the former bass player from nick lepre's band would go on to nearly break his neck on that show and sucessfully sue for thousands.

i really, really love THE MIKE MESSIER SHOW.

HAHA my brother was on RI public access, on L3vi Ma1a's show. I have a picture of pete's face 3 feet high on the side of a RIPTA bus.

wasn't there a Sandler-era SNL skit parodying Rhode Island public access TV? something like "The Ballantyne Boys"?

Some emo kid from Providence had a public access show that ended up on ABC Family(?) .. I saw it a couple times because my emo roommate who went to school in RI had a crush on him. Also, the shows occasionally featured my guilty pleasure Promise Ring!

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Polvo played on The Jane Pratt Show on TEH LIFETIME NETWORK ca. 1992 (ed note: actually i think 93 or 94). She had some decent musical guests (a pre-popularity/circa-Babes-In-Toyland-aping Hole, Teh Blake Babies, Pond).

did you just say the blake babies were decent?

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

for the Lifetime Network? yes, definitely decent.

Jane Pratt had a show on Fox in 92, the Lifetime show was probably 93 then.

I guess this thread is as good as any. In about 2003 I saw a couple of late-night episodes on a NYC or Long Island public access channel of a show I think was called "Plastic Soul" starring a band of the same name. The band was lead by a dour looking guitar player/vocalist dressed like John Lennon/Joshua Tree-era U2 with wide-brimmed hat, black duster, etc. He played a strat which may have been a righty played lefty like Hendrix, but I may be making this bit up. My recollection was they played nearly all if not all Beatles covers. The leader would take these ridiculous over the top EVH guitar solos that lasted for minutes and seemed very incongruous with the rest of the song. The band seemed like they took the entire endeavor very, very seriously, which made the whole thing hilarious (it was probably after midnight and I was drunk).

I have never been able to find any information about this show band since there are a million Beatles cover bands called Plastic Soul. Any help or confirmation I was not hallucinating would be appreciated.
