noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 31 December 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

no way duderman, this is like the early sebadoh of now, except not as interesting.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 31 December 2004 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean seriously, i would entertain an explanation as to why somebody would listen to this record more than like once or twice.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 31 December 2004 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i dug a couple of the tunes in a tears for fears karaoke bar kind of way.

sebadoh just too east coast for me
go west, not-so-young men

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 31 December 2004 04:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it sort of sounds like aliens got a wave of radio from the 70s and are trying to imitate us and send it back. It mmight not be totally ground breaking but really what is? I bought it 2 days ago and I've listened to it maybe.. 4 times. I mean... it's no white magic EP but I'm enjoying the bad quality and cheesy melodies bundled with weird background noise.
Then again, maybe it is so good elitists will have to hate it.

Holly (an appletross), Friday, 31 December 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i mean, i can hear how it's interesting, but it's not enough to sustain further listens. I can't imagine just sitting around and throwing it on, or whatnot. Also, mr. duke how did you decipher his lyrics on that ILM thread? I can't tell waht the fuck he's singing.

xpost - who you calling elitist? I'm listening to Led Zeppelin.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 31 December 2004 04:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i didnt call any body anything. jussayinzal

Holly (an appletross), Friday, 31 December 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

ahem!
i think "some staggering kaleidoscopic talent lurking beneath the temporal hipster trappings " says it best.

Holly (an appletross), Friday, 31 December 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

^dan h wrote that in another thread. nice work.

Holly (an appletross), Friday, 31 December 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

lurking beneath shitty production values and intentionally "goofy" vocals you mean?

okay, I'll stop.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 31 December 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i've heard some preliminary remastering for a reissue of 'worn copy' on paw tracks, which was originally released on LA label rhystop and first thing i ever heard of teh ariel. what i heard at least sounded way better. tape is a rich medium and things were being drawn out which weren't as apparent initially, if at all.

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 31 December 2004 06:06 (twenty-one years ago)

hott things

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 31 December 2004 06:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i love how disagreeing with someone gets you called 'rockist', 'elitist' or 'nazi'

this thread is so totally yawnist

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Friday, 31 December 2004 06:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i never got called regionalist

noizem duke (noize duke), Friday, 31 December 2004 06:22 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks to this thread, i've been listening to ariel pink so that i can give him another chance but i still can't enjoy it much ... i think that i would enjoy it more if i had heard the recorded pink before seeing the live show. it makes it hard to listen to the music when all i can remember is how pretentious and awful he seemed hassling the poor sound guy for more delay less delay delay in monitors no delay etc etc etc. maybe he's some sort of genius that i can't get but it just comes off as absurd to me.

it probably doesn't help that he's from la which is bound to get him labelled as pretentious regardless of his actions..

I'm serious ... Ti-i-i-i-im (deangulberry), Friday, 31 December 2004 06:28 (twenty-one years ago)

deleted this album two days ago.

Holly (an appletross), Friday, 31 December 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

House Arrest is his best album. The guy's responsible for some righteous hooks.
