troubleman is a shitty label.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

i used to buy most of their releases... then lost interest mostly... but it seems like in the nearer future there's a couple good records coming... dead machines, octis, and the mouthus/double leopards thing... i'd like to hear "void" by the flying luttenbachers...

good competition for narnack...
m.

msp #2, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

didn't know about the mouthus/dl record.. i do recall hearing about the dead machines, though, but I guess i forgot. best release on TMU: harriet the spy 'unfuckwithable' LP

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

that harriet the spy record is pretty good....didnt troubleman put out a shotmaker recoord

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

yeah they did. MOUSE EAR FORGET ME KNOT. and the discography 2xCD (which I should sell, since I haven't listened to it in 2+ years.)

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

harriet the spy. nice dudes. party of helicopters too. (rip)

they did put out a shotmaker discography... but i think it was of poor recording quality... of course, so were their records if i remember correctly. :)

can't improve on bad originals.

t'man did a decent job of putting out reissuing a lot of things that i thought were better than your average ebullition/victory hardcore... like nuzzle and fisticuffs bluff ... both of those bands were amazing back in the '95. if gygax has 92, i bet i have 95.

not so hardcore related, tangentally, dead hills i still really like. and pixeltan. and those early black dice records had some definite high spots.

but yeah... uh... that doesn't apologize for a lot of the weak.
m.

msp #2, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

i HATE the black dice records on TMU. especially the 10". i liked their early 7"s on gravity/tapes/verminscum, and I like beaches & canyons.. but everything else is kinda crap.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

hey ian..ill take that shotmaker disco off you. its been a LONG time since i heard them.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

it is all yours, bro.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

i get that stuff confused. there is some tmu bd stuff that i dislike... but there is some i like. they really fudged the brain with all that "untitled" bullshit.

m.

msp #2, Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:33 (twenty years ago)

wicked.

NEXT TIME I SEE YOU, ILL HAVE THAT PEARLS BEFORE SWINE LP.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 4 January 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

one month passes...
OH GOD THIS RECORD IS A TURD. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS A LIVE RECORDING OF THE REUNION SHOW FROM THE KNITTING FACTORY A COUPLE YEARS AGO. EASILY ONE OF THE WORST SHOWS I ATTENDED.

I WANT MY $12 BLACK.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

TO THE X I'M CRUCIFIED.

greg ginn thought neubauten was bullshit, why don't you? (smile), Wednesday, 23 February 2005 01:25 (twenty years ago)

A FIRESTORM TO PURIFY!!!!!!!

I interviewed Karl back in the day and asked if his loved ones who smoked, drank, and ate meat would be first to go. Anyway though those first few EPs are great.

I have a feeling Troubleman will be putting out some really awesome stuff this year. Just a good feeling.

GLASS CANDY 12" is props.

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Thursday, 24 February 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

yeah... tman stuff i like:

harriet the spy/poh/new terror class
champagne kiss/camera obscura
glass candy
wolf eyes (the twee band)
halal shedad (was okay at one time.)
fisticuffs bluff disco.
nuzzle (nostalgia)
t'man mixtape
flying luttenbachers stuff
octis/orthrelm
Zs

etc. they just got iffy after a time. they seem to have a better swing of stuff coming... dead machines, mouthus, etc
m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

i love that champagne kiss record!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

i believe i have you to thank for that too!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:09 (twenty years ago)

but. but. all their records sound like shit, cause big man dont like that mastering shit.

glass candy: is the worst. c'mon it's a big joke right????...right?

mix tape: so much garbage on there...would've made a sweet 10"

harriet the spy: that was a pretty great record, short and sweet. I think they went on to be party of helicopters?? or something...they were pretty awful.

wolf eyes: not a fan of that picture disc...sold it.

NOBODY FINDS THE NEW NOIZE DIRECTION QUESTIONABLE?

luttenbachers: love those guys, I forgot about them!! they arent really a TRBLMAN band...i guess trblman offered more money/better distribution? than skin graft?

I also forgot about the first songs of zarathustra record which had some pretty radical songs on it!

i dont know champagne kiss, whats it like?

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

the bottomline here tho is...HOW FUCKIN ROTTEN THIS EARTH RECORD IS.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

msp made me a mixtape with champagne kiss' "black violin" on it and i played it over and over and over and over again, it's really intense male-female shouty discordant blur-gazy abrasive rock. kind of like the long instrumental passages on daydream nation meets the long instrumental passages on yank crime, but the drumming more double-drummy and tribal.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

in fact, i just put that track on a jack cole CDR.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

EVEN SUNN O))) GOT BORED OF DOING EARTH; NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR EARTH DO EARTH SOME MORE. DDB MOSTLY OTM!! (EXCEPT THE ONLY LUTTENBACHERS I LIKE ARE "DESTROY ALL MUSIC" AND "REVENGE OF THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS")

xposts WITH THE GYGAX

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

SUNN 0)))>>>>>>EARTH

IMHO

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if Sunn 0))) pay Dylan Carlson royalties.

The Argunaut (sexyDancer), Thursday, 24 February 2005 21:59 (twenty years ago)

champagne kiss was ex-camera obscura... i'm forgetting who was in that. it was noise-influenced rock maybe? like... uh... emo tarantula hawk? or?

party of helicopters had good stuff here and there. the singer was something i never got, but the rest of the band was shredders. another t'man thing that was good... red scare and thumbnail stuff... good 90s hardcore t'man reissued a lot of. i was happy about that because in mid-90s, all my music went away. so i was happy to get the fisticuffs for example. summer mastous could wail the wallpaper off.

yeah, the production probably sucked. that mixtape especially. they even redid it.

"NOBODY FINDS THE NEW NOIZE DIRECTION QUESTIONABLE?" describe. i actually haven't bought a real noise record in a while i think. maybe. i have seen live stuff and got some live stuff from the interschwingle, but that's about it. lately i've needed more than fuzz on a recording unfortunately.

glass candy i liked because i liked get hustle and love life... and they all seemed to fit... just like the slaves... i was big into that post-gravity gsl theatrics scene in the 99-00 for sure. girl from glass candy played in nothin but panty hose here in nashville. and she is stupid hot. i know that's a completely unacceptable reason to like a band, and i wasn't even at the show, but...

i'm silly like that.

shit i've enjoyed:

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 24 February 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

i'd say troubleman has about a 50% track record.

i'd also say as much as i loved earth the first time around, i wish there wasn't a second time. i blame those fucks at Southern Lord and No Quarter for digging Dylan back up from the grave -- though i think part of the problem is that Dylan isn't just doing what he was doing but almost trying to fit it into SUNN 0)))'s (and others') cartoon version of his previous work.

that said, SUNN 0))) is such a freaking bore. wake me up when their record is over.*

*extra content purely to bait DDB.

what ive heard and think is OK to GOOD. anything not included i either haven't heard (like songs of zarathustra) or i think sucks (like, say, rogers sisters or tussle or the walkmen):

020 Fisticuffs Bluff "Discography" LP/CD
026 Karp/Rye Coalition split CD (just the Karp half)

036 Nuzzle "San Lorenzo's Blues" LP/CD
