American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Sunday, 9 January 2005 01:04 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 9 January 2005 07:06 (twenty years ago)

yeah, that was the main point. it was done really quickly for the show.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Sunday, 9 January 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

I'll be asking you for tips very soon. Tell me about acrylics though, that's what I'll be using.

.adam (nordicskilla), Sunday, 9 January 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

I don't use acrylics very often because they don't suit my style of painting. Since you're beginning, I'd recommend buying some slow-dry medium to mix in with your acrylic paints or else they'll dry up before you get the results you want.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, I will! :)

What style of painting is suited to acrylics?

.adam (nordicskilla), Sunday, 9 January 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Lots ... I was mostly saying that I do a lot of blending and like the texture of oil more, so I prefer to work with that. There are a lot of realists that use acrylic, but those guys are pretty much out of my league, since they're normally twice my age and have been painting for longer than I've been alive.

You should get this book:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0874774241/qid=1105308077/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-4554796-5040927?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

It looks corny and it sort of is, but it will give you some tricks to change the way you view things. For example, if you're painting a picture of someone, instead of relying on your memories of what an eye looks like to paint, you'll be able to focus on painting the shapes of the eye, which is much more effective. Lots of good tips. Also, make sure to buy as much paint as you can afford. Acrylics can be pretty cheap, so that shouldn't be a problem. It helps to have as many colors on hand so you don't have to spend so much time trying to mix the colors you need.

http://przewodnik.onet.pl/_i/flag/szk_.gif

I would go with a nice cerulean blue and maybe a bit of indigo and white.

American Apparel and Jeanne-Claude (deangulberry), Sunday, 9 January 2005 22:10 (twenty years ago)

fuck acrylic painting. you need an acrylic sweater.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Sunday, 9 January 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

I will get that book. I will not be painting that flag.
