i don't get it. there were never curses on seinfeld.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

You can't cuss on TV in Australia? Neither can we, imagine that.
What are you on about Mr. G?

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

there was one episode about swearing i think.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

doesn't make sense because seinfeld doesn't even curse in his acts.

cutty (mcutt), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

no, there was that one about swearing, where a kid learns to swear from seinfeld.

wasn't there?

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

oh right, he's eating a muffin or something? and says THIS IS A FUCKING GOOD MUFFIN! oh maybe it was frozen yogurt.

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 13 January 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

But it was beeped out in the original, right?

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 13 January 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh that's your point. Carry on then.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 13 January 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

You can swear on TV in Australia, aparrently. The Seinfeld episode in question is the one where George comes up with the brilliant tactic of pretending to be really pissed off whenever his boss comes around so it looks like he's really busy. His boss then assigns him to a fun little stress-relief project of taking care of some baseball bigwigs from Texas who swear incessantly. When George is having drinks with them they're all yelling "You son of a bitch!" "Look at these bastards!" etc etc.

When I watched it the first few times in Australia the swear words were all intact. The rips from American TV I was watching last night had them all blanked out with silence which struck me as a bit weak, hence this thread.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 13 January 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

You can say bastard and bitch on TV here. Weird.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:00 (twenty years ago)

I don't think 'bitch' was blanked, but I'm sure 'bastard' and 'shit' were.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

ok, shit would be bleeped normally. a few shows (South Park, NYPD Blue I think?) have said it as a "special event" type thing, as pathetic as that is.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:09 (twenty years ago)

The South Park one was great though because they said it like 182 times, with a counter at the bottom.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

I think of you as kind of a South Park, a little squeaking egg.

.adam (nordicskilla), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:15 (twenty years ago)

HMM

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Friday, 14 January 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

Don't kick the baby?
