I was personally on fire today on ILM talking about THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY as well as JACKSON BROWNE and in addition to THE BEATLES.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:30 (twenty years ago)

and you got sonned by a german kid on ebay

Dr. Z Indahouse (AaronHz), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

On ILM I tried to revive the Gamelan 2004 thread because it talked about Court Gamelan stuff on Nonesuch. I posted on the 'problems with internet mailorder' thread. i read the ween/phish argument. on ILE I read about pasta sauce and i think that's it. oh, and i posted on the thread about pot addiction.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:46 (twenty years ago)

I revived a few 1P3 threads. I'll revive more later.

marmot wolof (marmotwolof), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

i posted on stuff and said stuff about um music and stuff. it was pretty rad.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

i never get in big fites though. i'm gonna start fiting people.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:27 (twenty years ago)

Xiu Xiu blowz! That guy can't even sing or nothing! stuff like that.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

xiu xiu does kinda blow. i liked that sad pony geureilala girl song tho. mostly cuz he kinda sings.

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:37 (twenty years ago)

i drew a picture of CTHULU today in english class

latebloomer (latebloomer), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:40 (twenty years ago)

i wrote 3 metal reviews today too. and listened to metal. and talked about metal on ilm.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

actually one was death metal, one was metalcore, and one was melodic hardcore. or "melocore" as i like to say.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:45 (twenty years ago)

i just want to write about metal for the rest of my life. and psych records. and make fun of britpop.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:46 (twenty years ago)

i started a thread about Cadet & Cadet Concept that not a single person responded to, but i am so used to that

:(

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

i did nothing

cutty (mcutt), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 02:54 (twenty years ago)

PICKLE BAR:
defended my right to buy a CD rather than download it
revived old DFA threads
linked to violent ramp

ILM:
lamented my shrinking amazon scam order
talked about drum sounds on the Beatles Anthology 2
ranked The Descendents oeuvre
asked for comparisons of Jackson Browne bootlegs to the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's first album
corrected someone wrt: Caetano Veloso wrote "Baby"

ILE:
said "Hi" to phil-two

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 03:08 (twenty years ago)

"i started a thread about Cadet & Cadet Concept that not a single person responded to, but i am so used to that"

I own every Rotary Connection album if that makes you feel any better.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

ILBaseball:
I ran a quick statistical model projecting Sammy Sosa's 2005 offensive statistics for next season using the last 4 seasons as the historical sample... it wasn't pretty.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

talking about metal on ilx=critic bait

dud

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

I just think I showed time and again that I find objection with anything Jess says, though at least on ILM I shroud the dislike in something other than childish insults.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 03:45 (twenty years ago)

-gushed over winamp.
-lurked.
-thought of pretend band names for "name some obscure songs that pretentious ppl would pretend to listen to"... either that wasn't funny or no one realized they were fake.
-in the process of trying to post something amusing here, i was disturbed by simpsons porn. i told google, "I'm Feeling Lucky." when i typed in "simpson's characters"... damn, i'm really not sure anymore. or maybe so since simpsons porn is probably more interesting than anything i had to say above.

you people are roffles. thank you pickle bar. one day, i'm gonna make a pickle bar tribute band. (= dione warwick's bass player + singer from cinderella + steve austin of titd + owls)
m.

msp (msp), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:11 (twenty years ago)

dionne warwick's bass player during the bacharach era was Carol Kaye.

ps: i ROFL-ed at your band names. :-D

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

Carol Kaye is teh awesome

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

"You're so nashville if: your co-worker has been Dionne Warwick's bassist at one point."

msp (msp), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:14 (twenty years ago)

LURKED AS PER NORM!

brock (brock), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:24 (twenty years ago)

I own every Rotary Connection album if that makes you feel any better.

hey scott, or stormy (where you at?), do you guys know anything about these (cadet concept) bands: Status Quo, Aesop's Fables, Salloom & Sinclair, Joel Vance.

the only one i can find any info about is Status Quo, and they're a british psych band, but i wanna know what their stuff on Cadet was like. and i have no idea who the other groups were, but i was assuming they were also soulful/psych bands?

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:48 (twenty years ago)

oh hey JaX0N -- I did see your thread, and in fact I had an inking that it might be your thread before I even clicked on it!! you crazy record collectin' prankster. Yeah, I guess I really don't have too much to add beyond seconding the Rotary Connection love, and the Electric Mud love, and etc. And most of the McDuff lps on Cadet were solid. Oh, and yeah, Terry Callier. What did you think of that Occasional Rain then? He's an acquired taste, but I like him. His recent records have left me kind of flat, but I love that Cadet stuff..

As far as I know, that Status Quo lp was just the licensed American version of their earliest UK stuff. so it's like yeah, "Pictures of Matchstick Men" (totally classic) and so on .. I haven't actually heard the whole thing. I don't know those other dudes at all, though, no (Aesop's Fables, Joel Vance, etc)

Also I THINK there was this other crazy white psych band that recorded for Cadet -- the Baroques? I think their record came out on Cadet, but I'm not sure (don't have it myself.) Scott might know. They had that crazy "Oscar Mayer Weiner" song. I think they might have ended up on the first Nuggets 4cd box. But yeah I think that's another one to look out for.

There was this whole budget series of CDs that Charly UK released, compilations of ARGO/Chess stuff. Good stuff to be found in there ... Marlena Shaw, she's another hot one...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

I didn't post too much today, just bits here and there, and then I came to the NOISE BORED to tell people to screw themselves if they don't like XIU XIU.

SCREW YOU IF YOU DON'T LIKE XIU XIU.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:37 (twenty years ago)

I started the inevitable thread about Pitchfork's Top 100 Singles of 2000-04, talked to Anthony about Spoon, and made a few remarks about Will Ferrell movies on ILE. Checked into the Pickle Bar and I Love Baseball but didn't post anything.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 06:51 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and yeah, Terry Callier. What did you think of that Occasional Rain then?

fucking great! the first song i could do without, a little to happy, the guy at my work asked if we were listening to Tom Jones, but then it kicked into the slower, sadder stuff and i was so hooked. there's a really long song near the end (i think it's Lean On Me - but not the Bill Wither's song) that's just so moving.

i've had What Color Is Love for the longest time, and i guess they're pretty similar albums. WCIL has a little bit more funk maybe. more bass.

i recently picked up John Lucien's "Rashida" which is very, very similar to Callier or Gil Scott Heron, but with a bit more caribean feel. i started a thread on him a while ago, and like usual, only one person responded to it.

El Janko (JasonD), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

I started a "post pics of your bedroom" thread for no good reason, other than I had the pics handy and was bored. I also started a 'clerks c/d' thread for no good reason. I also posted a lot for no good reason.

Andrew (enneff), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

"talking about metal on ilx=critic bait"

i don't know what this means??? i like talking about metal.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

i think the only other cadet concept records i have besides all the rotary connection albums are a status quo 45, and a muddy waters record and a howlin' wolf record. i do own the harvey matusow jew's harp band album on head records but not the mighty baby record that head put out. (cuz i'm too cheap to buy it even though it's great. those were the only two releases on chess's ill-fated rock label.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 13:00 (twenty years ago)

i don't know what this means??? i like talking about metal.

it means, the critics come out and tell you what sucks, or how lame this is or the one sheet that came with the promo is stupid...and the critics are the must un-metal douchebags going.

GO TO ONE METAL SHOW AND SHUT UP.

I am going to see SUFFOCATION in 2 weeks. sweet.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

i have longer hair then anyone in suffocation. there are no metal shows on the island that i live on. not now that one man death metal band Anti moved down south. plus, i hate people so i don't go to many shows of any type. i always want to kill people when i go to live shows. maybe i'm too old. and not everyone is like that on ilm. and ilm will always sorta be like that. i get some good tips there. there are cool metal fanz around. i don't pay attention to the idiots. i never have.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

plus, what about me. have i ever been ANYTHING OTHER THAN HELPFUL on ILM??? Maybe if the geezerz talking about metal on ILM are too lame for you you should go to the baby board and TALK ABOUT PACIFIERS WITH OTHER BABIES!!!!!!! (aw, who am i kidding? i'm no good at starting fights. my heart isn't in it.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

dood, are you fucking serious?

dood, talking about metal with 16 year olds on the earache board is 1,000,000 better than talking about metal on ILM. ILM is just a pissing contest for dismissing things you've only read about.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:17 (twenty years ago)

i...dont like metal

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:36 (twenty years ago)

dood, i only talk about things i've heard on ilm.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

but i'm sure the earache board is nice.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:44 (twenty years ago)

scott im not talking about you...so simmer down.

your metal-cred is not in question.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

who are you talking about ddb?

adam? just because hes a man united fan? and doesnt like metal either? thats terrible

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

i never liked him either, though, (shh dont tell the others!)

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

well, if it makes you feel any better, there are people who talk about metal on ILM who bug the crap out of me too. they shall remain nameless. i've gotten used to that though on ilm. it comes with the territory. there are always gonna be those people though. there aren't too many of them i guess or i wouldn't still be hanging out there. i tend to flock to the geek/obsessive types like me. Hi, Gareth! Have you seen Stormy?

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

anyway, the new Immolation DOES rule.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

no, i havent. but i was away from my desk for a short while. he could have come by then. my desk is kind of...disturbed though, you dont think that was him do you? i just, no, i cant, he wouldnt do that, would he?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

ILM:

i said rising high was a rubbish label
i made an insightful, witty and almost devilish post to the simon reynolds thread
i made a quip about joe meek, that was...adequate, under the circumstances

ILE:

i said that 80/8 was demon (but its others too i am sure)
that i didnt have any sinister crushes, because i have never been on sinister
i posted a picture of my head
i used the word radocevian

the psyche board:

i talked about some psyche

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

gareth, we could start an actual psych thread for all things acid.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

but what should we call it?

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

no, let it spill it out everywhere!

i didnt like 'a cid symphony' that much, should i give it another go?

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

my friend played with the chocolate watch band once, in san diego a couple years ago

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

no, a cid symphony is boring. damn hippies couldn't even play.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

i just played guitar on a bonniwell music machine tour of europe. it was Sean's first time doing that kind of thing. he'd only done a couple of shows--one where the fuzztones backed him. we did it right and learned all the songs note for note and had the right equipment and a great drummer and sean turned the whole thing into this great SHOW and it was just awesome. people were screaming and jumping in the air every time we started a new song.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

wow, that's awesome. that must have been fun, tim. that bonniwell music machine album is one of my favorite albums ever. the one with the eagle never hunts the fly on it.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 18:36 (twenty years ago)

It was an honor. This was our setlist:

Medley of instrumental passages from Black Snow, Everything Is Everything, Absolutely Positively, Soul Love, and Unka Tinka Ty
Some Other Drum
Trouble
The People in Me
Wrong
Mother Nature Father Earth
Talk Me Down
Bottom of the Soul
Double Yellow Line
Advise and Consent
Masculine Intuition
Eagle Never Hunts the Fly
You'll Love Me Again
Come on in
Talk Talk

Encore:
No Girl Gonna Cry
Affirmative No

But, again, it was more than just us doing all of these songs. It was a whole show. Bonniwell has a real sense of showmanship. I don't know if it dates back to his days as a folk singer or not. Did you know he was in the Wayfarers?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

no. i actually don't know much about his history pre-music machine.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I think they were a fairly big Kingston Trio type group. Three albums on RCA.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Tuesday, 1 February 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

gareth, i liked your joe meek/ glenda collins joke, i chuckled.

Today, I started a good, funnie strawman thread about ARTISTS THAT "PRETENTIOUS PEOPLE" DO NOT PRETEND TO LISTEN TO only to have the thread deleted by A CERTAIN SOMEONE on the grounds that it had nothing to do with Black History Month whilst THIS CERTAIN SOMEONE let other threads, also unrelated to BHM, stay. Does this person sleep peacefully tonight? Knowing that he has done this?

I also tried to diffuse an explosive situation with Alex in SF (regarding THE BEATLES AND THE KINKS) by calling him "partner."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:01 (twenty years ago)

hahahahaahaha... i liked that thread, sucks it was deleted. what would marcus garvey have thought of the censorship on this board?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:05 (twenty years ago)

read threads in the archive about henry flynt and rocksteady.

posted a bit on lightning bolt thread on ILM. contributed to threads no one actually reads (top 5 songs of all time, etc.).

on ILE, started a thread about Peruvian cuisine but no one really wanted to discuss it at length.

Ian John50n (orion), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

I overruled Tim Ellison's challenge of the call on the field and charged him with his first time-out.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

deleted some shitty thread
looked at fanny.jpg
listened to a song

Site Admistrator (deangulberry), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:10 (twenty years ago)

wtf does marcus garvey have to do with censorship?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 February 2005 04:17 (twenty years ago)

welll...he's black

"I also tried to diffuse an explosive situation with Alex in SF (regarding THE BEATLES AND THE KINKS) by calling him 'partner'."

A futile attempt, as it turns out.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 8 March 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

considered starting threads devoted to Steely Dan's The Royal Scam, Sergio Leone's The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and "what's better? a full fridge or freshly laundered clothes?" I didn't follow through. Posted some. Frowned a bit. Almost posted an lengthy diatribe about how life is bleak, but then my student loan deferrment request was approved via letter and I was happy. Spent some time attempting to parse the "country music: do limeys dig it?" thread, but decided to get out of there.
