i have gone through periods of liking... then disliking... then re-liking... earliest shit was rawgood. middeshit was tired but the remixes were amazing. later shit got better cause they used some new sounds.

msp (msp), Monday, 7 February 2005 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

i really, really like them. they are one of the better san diego bands of the past 10 years. a lot of the beef people have with them has very little to do with their music.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 February 2005 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

do you like them scott?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I LIKE THEM LOTSA.

A sprawling collection of raw instrumental rock (ddb), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i like how their songs end before DOODS can fuck shit up. this seems to only make DOODS even madder.

= fun.

msp (msp), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

they are definitely the most aggressively heckled band i've ever seen.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I like to listen to them really loud when I am drunk and shouty.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I only have the one anti/epitath record *Plague Soundscapes* and (i think) i have a single or two somewhere too, but I don't think I listened to those much. I like the album okay. It's peppy! they are fidgety little fuckers. I like the speediness. I think the band I would really like though is Racebannon. I want one of their records. I liked those Rapider Than Horspower records and I liked their Sabbath cover on the Sabbath tribute CD I got. Could you compare the locust with racebannon? i think you can, right? but i haven't heard that much of the latter. I think the locust are good clean fun. If i were a kid i would probably spazz out over them. you know? cuz their song-titles are funny too. and they dress funny. and the album art.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

my favorite locust song is definitely the epic "moth eaten deer head"... i've seen them close their sets with that 3 times and each time it brought the house down.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd REALLY like to see them live.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

they are pretty impressive live. can't see ever buying a record, tho.

here's the moth eaten deer head video (NSFW).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

racebannon... more feedback bleedy than locust? i dunno. their sound has changed over the years i think. from more screamy to skronkin beefheart nooge. more stomp last i checked.

msp (msp), Monday, 7 February 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i dig em. Plague Soundscapes is really good. a lot better than their earlier stuff which is really just average grindcore with a moog.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 7 February 2005 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I do not like The Locust.

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 7 February 2005 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the Locust. Thought it is true of most musics, they make so much more sense on drugs. I dont' know how it works, exactly. You have to smoke so much that time slows down and then their songs sound just like Yes.

Scott: Listen to Racebannon, immediately. I often think they're the best band in the world. They're not really that much like the Locust, though I have seen both filed under "noise-core" (which is a pretty useless word, isn't it). They take their time, and they groove, though there's usually too much noise over the groove to make it out so well. They're playing here soon with EX MODELS (who I also love immensely) and I'm really excited (they haven't played out in a while).

Locust : Wire :: Racebannon : PiL

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

also, the guitarist from Racebannon delivered my pizza the other day, wtf??

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

do u guys like the number 12 looks like you

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

h8 teh locust.
h8 teh #12 looks like u.

greg ginn thought neubauten was bullshit, why don't you? (smile), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

its a matter of do you like cartoon metal or not ok?

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 03:28 (twenty-one years ago)

chaki, listen to this band and tell me what you think. 1st or 2nd track:

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

track one - nah i dont really like this. its like ATR but with major chords and the vocals are samey. beats and samples seem slapped together. but i mean its fun just not my thing.

track two - i like how its a bit more disco.

charleston charge (chaki), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

track four they sample 808 state and rakim really badly, but it kinda makes me like it even more. they are from spain apparently, but they really want to be japanese. Or german. one or the other. or maybe both!

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

do Scott Hull bands count as "cartoon metal"?

greg ginn thought neubauten was bullshit, why don't you? (smile), Tuesday, 8 February 2005 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

three months pass...
i am loving my metal universe. i would kill for decibel.

harvey fierstein told me you guys ruled
john zorn called to tell me you're great
the caller i.d. was from a gay bar
you guys fucking suck

any guy who likes you
like neurosis and dicks up his ass
you think you're so fucking original
gay bars used to be original too

you never get bad reviews
because all the writers shoot up cum
everyone who likes you
is a gay homosexual faggot

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 27 May 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

i sense some homophobia, must be that east coast shut-in disorder at work

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:21 (twenty years ago)

can you blame him? it's all those vendors on the streets of williamsburg screaming 'HOT NUTS'

Community Cornerstone (deangulberry), Friday, 27 May 2005 06:24 (twenty years ago)

You guys are dumb.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

msp (mspa), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

i just love writing for decibel so much. you have no idea. i never thought i would be able to write like that for a glossy magazine that you could buy at borders.they don't fuck with my stuff! you know? that's so rare. even if you aren't a big metal fan, it's fun to read.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:46 (twenty years ago)

awesome.

msp (mspa), Friday, 27 May 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Because let’s face it, the Japanese have perfected the art of poop-happy dementia involving disorienting electronics and sub-atomic grindcore thrashing coupled with inhuman screams.

Top 10 albums list from this aesthetic plz.

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I saw them live.

utterly forgettable.

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 27 May 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

m.

msp (mspa), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

How are they better?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

They are more "enjoyable".

Cool Hand Luuke (ex machina), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

you could pick ten bands from Slap-A-Ham records and they'd all destroy The Losuct.
