borrows pretty heavily from "Sing Swan Song", esp. the epic outro.

24 Carat Black theme sounds like a Vitamin C ripoff but they were more or less released the same year and I'm not sure any of them heard of each other back then, just a happy coincidence probably:

GRATEFUL DEAD
― brimstead, Tuesday, 26 July 2016 19:11 (nine years ago)
If you're going for Grateful Dead I'd recommend the longer jams between 68-74 where they really take off and aren't thinking of having to tie in to song structure overmuch. Just how the band itself interplays. Also the track designated as feedback.
There's a James Brown compilation with the Collins Brothers line up that is probably as close as they get to sounding like Can. It's called Funk Power 1970 A Brand New Thang.
I got surprised by the Gene Vincent version of Summertime when I got it on a singles lp in the late 80s cos it sounded like it had arrived at the Can sound years early. Not specifically this era possibly.
Sun Ra in the space funk era from '78 to '83 or '84 has a number of points that could pass for CanThose that don't are enjoyable enough anyway.
Savage Republic especially on Jamahiriya pass for a Krautrock band not sure if it's this era Can but I'd certainly point people in that direction if they enjoy this stuff.
Saqqara Dogs in places

I'd also chjeck out the long version of Do Your Thing from the Shaft soundtrack for near trance rock. Think I'd recommend it anyway. But not sure fi it's been restored to the cd version since it got replaced at one point with the 2 minute single version.
The Cisco Kids version of War Live where all the long tracks are kept long is also worth looking at. Official version always had the songs cut up so that they would fit on vinyl sides.
