I don't have the last Antioch Arrow album but the 2 LP CD thing has some great songs.

green uno skip card (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

ANGEL HAIR.

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

VSS were pretty bad, no? (I had the LP briefly.)

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Angel Hair is good but not as stylistically brilliant as the VSS!

I was going to compare it to Born Against to Men's Recovery Project... but the ratio of (Born Against/MRP) > (Angel Hair/VSS)

green uno skip card (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Jack OTM.

But if it was between these two...I'd go with Antioch Arrow, their first 2 albums DESTROY. Their third album is laughable.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

GOTH IN THE NINETIES OH NO

MRP/Born Against SLAY ALL.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

NICE GUY IAN IN COMPLETLY UN-OTM STATEMENT SHOCKAH-ROO

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

ddb you are fucking WRONG

green uno skip card (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

DOOD. BORN AGAINST HAS LITTLE IF NOTHING TO DO WITH EITHER OF THESE BANDS.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

PLAY ONE RECORD.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

buy 2 gravity records 7"

green uno skip card (ex machina), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

GOT EM THX.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

J3F3 W!NT3RHAMBURGERHELPER to thread!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I WAS NOT INSINUATING THAT THE BANDS HAD OVERLAP OR SONIC SIMILARITIES. JUST GOING BY JON'S MENTION OF THEM--I THINK OVERALL THAT MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT AND BORN AGAINST WERE BETTER & MORE INTERESTING BANDS THAN ANTIOCH ARROW & THE VSS.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

IM INCLINED TO DISAGREE...BUT LETS BE BROS ANYWAY!

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

WORD!@!!!

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Ok, what is the appeal of the VSS?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

THEIR AWESOMENESS. DUH.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

HEY YOU KNOW THAT FAUX NEW WAVEY BAND YOU LIKE, THE KILLERS....VSS WAS DOING THAT SHIT 1000 X BETTER IN 1996

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, I seem to recall that they WERE TALENTLESS AND SOUNDED LIKE CRAP.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

TALENTLESS AND SOUNDED LIKE CRAP in 1996 vs. TALENTLESS AND SOUNDED LIKE CRAP in 2005?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

you need to re-recall.

THEY WERE FUCKIN AWESOME.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

I don't think the Killers are good at much other than writing pretty good songs, sounding pretty good, and being kind of silly, for what it's worth. I don't know what the heck the VSS were supposed to be good at.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

why can't i find a good picture of an ear horn on google?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Ok, what is the appeal of the VSS?

-- Tim Ellison (timelliso...), March 2nd, 2005.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what the heck the VSS were supposed to be good at.

PLAYING MUSIC AND ANNOYING THE SQUARES.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

They didn't annoy anyone--other than by being bad, that is.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

the vss could do a good job of making a squall. you could tell that they might've been into crash worship and tarantula hawk.

i think it's sorta hard to compare em to the killers cause the killers are hooky. hooks vs. abrasion.

m.

msp (msp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Crash Worship were horrible.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

OK TIM. NOW YOU ARE BEING STUPID. IF YOU ARE JUST COME OUT AND DISS A BAND YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT, GO ON ILM, WHERE THAT KIND OF SHIT FLYS.

I COMPARED THEM TO THE KILLERS, IN THAT THE VSS WAS DOING A NEW WAVEY THING. MAYBE FRANZ FERDINAND WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE APT.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

OK, AGAIN TIM....YOU HAVE HORRIBLE TASTE.

PLEASE STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Uh, I had the album, dude. And I saw Crahs Worship innumerable times.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

i like crash worship... but i like that sort of music even if now there's this sort of negative burning man vibe hovering over tribal noise sounds like that.

m.

msp (msp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 20:58 (twenty years ago)

"now"

"tribal"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

roffle @ 'negative burning man vibe'

http://www.petermissing.com/02disc.jpg

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

negative in that an industrial-hippie-anarchy thing has become a huge commercial enterprise.

is there a problem with "tribal" and "now", tim?
m.

msp (msp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

does anyone remember sink manhattan? fromk philly, i think. they had the missing foundation thing going on. and crash worship thing.

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

(x-post) YEAH

I was pointing out the "now" in your statement because the WE ARE SUCH THEE TRIPPY SAN DIEGO GENESIS P-ORRIDGES vibe was annoying from the git-go.

And Crash Worship were not a "tribe!"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

TIM WHY WOULD YOU GO SEE A BAND INNUMERABLE TIMES IF YOU THINK THEY SUCK?

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Just hanging out or they were on bills with other bands. My band played on a bill with them and Zeni Geva once!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

I mean, fuh, Zeni Geva >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Crahs Worship

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:25 (twenty years ago)

well... kk null RULEZ. i'll agree with you there.

does a tribe really need such a formal declaration?
m.

msp (msp), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

tim likes his music "orderly."

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

this is how i likes my music:

http://www.publispain.com/posters/disorderlies.jpg

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:44 (twenty years ago)

Tim has hometown burn-out, I can relate.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I can't! SLINT IN A COUPLE WEEKS WOOHOO.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 21:58 (twenty years ago)

CAN'T WAIT FOR THAT MAURICE REUNION (Pat Bucayu on bass).

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

I don't think it's hometown burnout, actually. I just thought Crash Worship were stoopid from the beginning and I didn't think the VSS album was very good.

"tim likes his music 'orderly'."

Yes, that is why I like 1/2 Gentlemen, Not Beasts so. What a dumbass comment.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

it was a joke, sheesh! take one internet seriously tim!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

PALS!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

any show where you can get hurt...ES MAS BUENO!!

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

angle hair ownz

and gems of masochism is not a bad album at all - did you really need a THIRD album of ceiling tile smashing and lyrics. that are. printed like this. in typewriter. isn't it so. annoying.

I mean, teh first two lps do indeed rule but give the brothas a break for taking a BIG chance

obscuro nostalgia - does anyone remember the band Portraits of Past, another screamo band who also mutated into a goth/glam-rock outfit known as Seventeen Queen? Some people I know in Long Island STILL count it as the worst show they've ever seen.

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

I rather enjoy that Portraits of Past LP on ebullition. The split 7" with BLEED though, was the awful.

Never saw em live, of course; I'm a young'un.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

i like the Bleed side - where they quote fucking TS Eliot!! that shit's funny.

My ex roommate lived with Mike Bleed in college (Hampshire, I think) said he was always watching porn. ha!

roger adultery (roger adultery), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

I always thought "Thoughts of Ionesco" was a good band name, at least.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:45 (twenty years ago)

Thoughts of Ionesco sounds like a Miyazaki movie.

Ian John50n (orion), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

and gems of masochism is not a bad album at all - did you really need a THIRD album of ceiling tile smashing and lyrics. that are. printed like this. in typewriter.

YES THX.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Some people I know in Long Island STILL...

HANDS DOWN, BEST BAND NAME!

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

Another band name I liked was THE YAH MOS.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Clickitat Ikatowi? Not so much.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

DO I ASKY MYSELF QUSTIONS AND THEN ANSWER THEM LIKE JOHN KERRY? YES I DO.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:51 (twenty years ago)

Bad SD band name, great band: Heavy Vegetable

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

I was hoping this thread was going to devolve into a discussion of the heaviest, most insane, most dangerous, most hardcore-you're-gonna-get-hurt band ever:

the Fat Boys

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:35 (twenty years ago)

there's at least one song that kicks ass on the third antioch arrow - "paper moshay." i forget what the rest of the album is like. saw them live circa the 2nd record, it was the grebtest.

eman (eman), Thursday, 3 March 2005 06:41 (twenty years ago)

IAN IS RIGHT AS FAR AS MRP GOES, BUT NOT AS FAR AS BORN AGAINST GOES. BORN AGAINST WAS A BETTER THAN AVERAGE HARDCORE BAND, BUT MRP WAS AN ALL AROUND GREAT BAND.

ROB CROW IS GREAT IN EVERYTHING BUT PINBACK WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST BORING BANDS EVER. I CAN'T WAIT FOR CROW'S GOBLIN COCK METAL LP.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 3 March 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

elderly msp says, "what did he just say, I CAN'T WAIT FOR CROW'S GOBLIN COCK??!? kids these days and their lord of the wings..."

m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

I think we should give Tim a yellowcard for mentioning Franz Ferdinand.

green uno skip card (ex machina), Thursday, 3 March 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

HAHA IT WAS ACTUALLY THE KILLERS.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 3 March 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

YOU DAMN KIDZ & YR KROQ.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

i blame the 3 Mile Pilot half of the band.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

I LIKE PINBACK. ITS HIS OTHER STUFF THAT IS BALLS.

TOUCHE'

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I've yet to hear any of his stuff that I liked (and I really don't like the popular Pinback songs they're playing on the radion now). But after seeing Heavy Vegetable a lot *back in the day* and not being into them, it's not like I've really followed his ARTISTIC TRAJECTORY.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 3 March 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

the best rob crow song is "couch", followed closely by "junior". everything has been downhill since "frisbie".

vss > clickitat > antioch arrow

but where's the love for satisfact?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

I think you are crazy vahid. i would change the direction of the arrows

green uno skip card (ex machina), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

but only 2/3 crazy, right, because we agree on clickitat.

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 3 March 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)
