i always find it really odd that i have used "msp" as a nickname on the internet for years... i'm a programmer... and i like making music... but yet i have NEVER used max-msp. i've wanted to forever but then it was mac only... and then once i had a mac to play with i haven't barely had the time.

trying to learn some pd. i also tried opensound for two minutes.

those patches sound really neat tho. i see he's got some other cool ass projects in there as well.

sigh, why am i making a role-playing game gui again? oh yeah, i'm a dork who needs an elf outlet.

I have so many good ideas for PD but I am "taking a break from music and art".

my beef with things like max and pd is that the music thing for me is more uh... hands on and direct... spending a lot of time quilting together a sound maker is something that comes from a completely different place in me. it's hard to connect the rock and the code.

it's hard to get motivated. i tend to be more of a user than a programmer for that kind of software... as much as i'd like to program some sound stuff. the game dev i've done is the closest to music programming. cause i attach sounds to events... i've long thought it'd be rad to attach different notes to different directions and then have pac man move in a pattern that makes the tunes. the ghosts could also have notes and be other instruments.

tough to find the time and/or be concentrated upon specific goals too. i'm into too many things. it's hard to sit still and accomplish anything.

Wow, I just realized I'm so Mac-centric I'd never even seen or heard of PD- does it run along the same lines as Max? (ie. no interface per se, patches built as chains of relationships between object boxes with typed in names etc.)

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I think it even has a max "workalike" mode that makes some of the semantics behave like max. It is essentially an open source max platform.
