Sincere offer. I have two tix, they are hard tix so you have to comme to my house to take them- then go see these giants of American jazz. I can't. I have goshdarned band practice and can't go. These are free, and all you have to do is email me and let me know, and then come get em.

best

Drew

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:04 (twenty years ago)

DREW I HAVE SCRABBLE LEAGUE.... YOU KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THAT IS?!?!?!?!

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

LEAGUE PLAY

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

HOWEVER I AM NOW CURIOUS AS TO WHAT GOES ON AT A MATMOS BAND PRACTICE!?!?!!?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

"Just play the fucking note!"

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:15 (twenty years ago)

Isn't this in Berkeley? I would love to Drew, but I have to go do groceries and then some freelance copyediting of chemistry textbooks. Keith Jarrett sounds hilarious from what I know of him.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:17 (twenty years ago)

What is m@tm0s even like live vs. on record? I live on the east coast so I have no idea.

green uno skip card (ex machina), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

I've....errrr, only seen them live.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:36 (twenty years ago)

Looks like maybe MIlton is taking the Tickets! YESSSS TAKE THEM GO SEE THE JAZZZZZ BABY

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:47 (twenty years ago)

i found an old kid606 remix thing in a box the other day and decided to listen to it for tha 1st time and dere is a m@TM*S remix on it that is kute cuz they(drew?) r explaining their methodz of madness to someone beforehand like this: "i'm gonna tape this photoshoot and then i will make muzik out of the sounds of the photoshoot". it all makes purrfect sense. that cd is pretty good.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:48 (twenty years ago)

Oh no, now Milton isn't taking them. And the jazz heroes are walking onto the stage RIGHT now. And I am missing it. Sigh . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 10 March 2005 03:58 (twenty years ago)

sorrys. hope j shows up before ten. good luck rehearsing the improvised sections!

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 10 March 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

"band practice" = making out!

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Thursday, 10 March 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

seriously weird you're missing this night drew, don't you know the more frightening the rehearsal, the better the show is? you don't spoil things by rehearsing again

I am hating to miss Peacock solos but I have daet (which is impossible)

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 10 March 2005 04:37 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe your practice schedule is that inflexible

green uno skip card (ex machina), Thursday, 10 March 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

It's a psychological thing- if I haven't had a solid rehearsal of the set I feel all crappy and freaked out- if you have sacrificed something you suddenly feel better (yes, I know this sounds kinda neurotic) - but it was a good practice. it's over now.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 10 March 2005 06:26 (twenty years ago)

i heard it was like the bestest show like evers.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Thursday, 10 March 2005 06:36 (twenty years ago)

I seriously called up 10-12 people trying to give these damn tix away- I called some folks who are no slouches at the piano who you'd think would be super into going to this show . .. but oh no everybody's busy in busytown.

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Thursday, 10 March 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

DREW DID THEY PULL A TRIPLE WORD SCORE WITH JUXTAPOSE?!?!?!?!? DID THEY??!?!?!??!?! I THINK NOT?!!?!!!!!?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 09:10 (twenty years ago)

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 10 March 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

I am boring, was probably just driving there from work around 8:30/9... you going tonight?

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 10 March 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

yes!!! i have to be 'loin-ish around 8pm.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Drew, what process do you use to develop your ensemble?

ie, do you conduct Jay as another instrument? do you hum his parts for him? do you tell him when to shave?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

not even j tells himself when to shave

I don't think too much is going on, definitely see you there, I doubt I will be too far away from the bar

milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 10 March 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

gygax will tell me if I am going to like these "double leopards".

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Do they have a beat you can dance to?

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

I'm guessing that they wear costumes and their artwork is like a children's book but with a DISTURBING twist.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:15 (twenty years ago)

no beats, no costumes, no stupid schticks that nyu undergrads will fawn over.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I like the Virgin Eye Blood Brothers.

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

They're better than LCD Soundsystem but not as good as Prince.

Like Dean Gulberry!

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

double leopards is like an Italo MIA if she was conducting the magic band using a jew's harp.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

virgin eye blood brothers are great! pete and kris rule. i will never know how to pronounce kris's last name.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

type it

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:24 (twenty years ago)

i can't even do that. it's like apalblabanappysack or something.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

awesome

Senior Executive/CEO (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

my stepsister's freshman year roommate at U of L was named "Ojabberin Zayden Powpack" but she never showed up.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

ooooh ooooh ask Brian when that For Carnation "commercial R&B" record is coming out!

Milo Smiley (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

i think you're confusing Brian with Beck Hanson.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

No, check one press archive.

Milo Smiley (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 23:23 (twenty years ago)

You remind me of Beck, you know that?

Not sure why.

Milo Smiley (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

just for you, ol' chap:

I met him once, when he was just on the cusp of fame, introduced to me by br3nt "fr@usd0ts" r@d3m@ker. he had the opening slot for treepeople and further (two of my favorite bands circa 1992) at raji's* in LA (don't look for it now, it's long gone). he was very slight and pixie-ish as i remember. he did "the wizard" and had bags of leaves all over the stage and put on a leaf blower and played that. also on the bill was the reverend bud green (haha for old socal hipsters). but back then, he was edgy and spazzy. he'd only had a blurb about him in the LA Weekly ("who is this wacky kid riding in the back of RTD buses playing blues covers over hiphop boombox beats?") and the station I'd eventually work for (HI JAX0FF) would eventually "break" him to bigger things).

A few years later, I moved across the street from st3v3 h@nft who is a friend of b3ck's, he directed the "loser" video (along with about 30 others), but this was more mid-90s. he had a band too, called s3xy d3@th s0d@ that were friends/associates with sukia. he was a filmmaker type, of which you may be familiar with the tragic stereotype.

*raji's is the club that was featured heavily in b/w on all of nirvana's early eps, singles and bleach.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 10 March 2005 23:41 (twenty years ago)

tragic stereotype

I have the soundtrack to St3v3 H4nft's movie!

Milo Smiley (nordicskilla), Thursday, 10 March 2005 23:45 (twenty years ago)

HI GAYGAX!
