"They got little baby legs
And they stand so low
You got to pick 'em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That got beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin' peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They're gonna get you every time
Well, I don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
Don't want no Short People
'Round here"

---- (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

I sometimes wonder if there's something to the notion that tall people are more likely to assume positions of power. I can't imagine looking like I could run things. (I'm 5'8".)

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Fuck that! I could run things round here standing on one leg with my good eye closed!

Also STALIN

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 04:02 (nineteen years ago)

i'm liking what i've heard so far. only listened to it once. i feel it's one of those albums that i might actually need to listen to the lyrics. kinda makes me want to listen to some springsteen too.

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:29 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and those dudes look frucking rad on the back cover.

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:29 (nineteen years ago)

The guy two places from the left should have been in Poison. and the guys three places from the left is totally rocking teh Prince action. funny, Bob is one hairy mofo.

but yeah, "Rock N Roll Never Forgets" (sure totally hackneyed sentiment) is probably the highlight ... great album thoug. Guy sings out of his mind on this one....

funny, I heard Van's "Into the Mystic" at the bar tonite ....

two thots: Van rools everybody's sweet ass unequivocally; Bob was rite to worship Van and it made him millions

go Pistons!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:36 (nineteen years ago)

also tho, when Bob does his his own dang on tracks like "Fire Down Below", he kicks azz

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:42 (nineteen years ago)

Jungle BROS thoughts, Jax? the best, or what?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:44 (nineteen years ago)

you know, when i was totally hiphop highschool kid, and WAY into native tongue, i never got into them, dunno why. i've listened to one of their albums recently a few times and it was pretty cool. i think i read somewhere that they made a really fucked up psych-hop album that i'd like to hear

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:52 (nineteen years ago)

i've said it elsewhere on noize board, but i chose a van morrison song for our first dance at my wedding.

team jaxon (jaxon), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:56 (nineteen years ago)

man i luv the jb's an I'm not even a "head"!

it's prolly a time/place thing .. alla my good buds who were even remotely into hip-hop liked the 2nd JB alb .. it was prolly and time/date thingy .. wouldn't xpect any1 to luv them ... tho they WERE hot

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:57 (nineteen years ago)

o man, Van the Man ... fuck do I luv that guy... best sex music ever (seriously T.B. Sheets = wow)

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 8 April 2006 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

STORMY OTMY.

DONE BY TEH FORCES OF NATURE is prolly teh best NATIVE TOUNGE ALBUM...IT STILL HOLDS UP AMAZINGLY...ALTHO, IVE SAID IT BEFORE, ITS MASTERED TOO LOW. REISSUE PLZ.

THE PSYCH JBZ RECORD IS PRETTY GOOD, KINDA WEIRD, I LIKE DONE BY BETTER.

VAN MORRISON FUCKING SLAYS.

JAXON:

where is soularfone?

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 12 May 2006 21:57 (nineteen years ago)

Leon Thomas: "I was playing in Brooklyn with Randy Weston when Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders came by. They began to visit regularly and often jammed with us.

"Pharoah had this song called 'Pisces Moon,' which he was playing every night as a theme in New York and he asked me if I could put some lyrics to it. I came up with 'The Creator Has A Masterplan.' A classic was born...."

The yodelling trademark first materialised in the late 1960s and came as a result of somebody owing him money. "I'd been trying to reach this cat for ages with no luck. I was at home and thought 'I'm gonna make this cat pick up the phone'--mentally. I began my yoga exercises and got to the head stand. With one intake of breath, I planned to walk to the phone upside down, dial his number, and make him answer with this mental projection.

"As I crossed the threshhold of the bedroom, I transcended. I was one place and my body was another. I dropped to the floor, right on my face and my teeth went into my bottom lip. There was blood everywhere....

"So I couldn't do my own show with Pharoah. I had eight stitches in my mouth. I couldn't do anything. Pharoah came by to see me [and he said] you can't pull out."

Leon decided to play the gig, a church benefit for a group of anti-police activists in New York. "I couldn't smile. I could hardly open my mouth...but I went along anyhow. I got up on the stage and when it came time for me to scat, this sound just came out. It shocked me. I didn't know where it was coming from.

"I realised it was me and I realised that the ancestors had arrived. Pharoah, standing beside me on stage just raised his eyebrows at me. The ancestors had given me what we call throat articulation and they said to me 'You will sing like this with your mouth CLOSED.' And that was the first time it presented itself to me, in a church. My God! Thank you....It surprises me, it does everything of its own volition. I call it Soularfone. The pygmies call it Umbo Weti....This voice is not me, my voice is ancient. This person you see before you is controlled by ego but my voice is egoless."

who was the artist who did that geometric painting you posted one time -- "16 Hindu Astronauts" or something. I used it as my wallpaper and now I can't find the thread anymore.

also that Olafur Eliasson show you were telling me about is coming to NY MOMA later this spring, I'm kinda psyched

dmr, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:35 (seventeen years ago)

The Eliasson was awesome here in SF.

Michael White, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 21:57 (seventeen years ago)

yeah that's what he was saying! it came up because of the Cai Guo-Qiang at the Guggenheim which was pretty much the noizest art show I've ever seen

^^^ those are wolves

dmr, Wednesday, 9 April 2008 22:10 (seventeen years ago)

Pedro Friedeberg. that 16 Hindu Astronauts was painted in the hotel we were staying at in Mexico City. it was huge, like 20'x30'. we ended up going to what i think was his old house in San Miguel de Allende, now turned into a museum and we met his ex wife. she was really nice and there were tons of prints on sale, but they started at like $500.
