kephm (kephm), Friday, 22 April 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

"Elixir is Zog" was the best song on Bubble & Scrape. Anyone else going to Tonic tonight?

o. nate (onate), Friday, 22 April 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

both lowenstein and gaffney have been awesome live when ive seen them perform in the past few years.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:31 (twenty years ago)

"ATKINS MOTHERFUCKER"

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

THIS SHOW WAS A TURD

ddb (ddb), Saturday, 23 April 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

it was. but it definitely got fun later into their set. they were having a fucking ball...

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

oh well. when ive seen them separately they have been both good, especially gaffney.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

gaffney was a lot more sane and charming then i expected him to be. loewenstein was fucking SKINNY.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

yeah, gaffney seems to have gotten his mental shit together -- everytime ive seen him he actually seems happy now.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

I thought the show was kind of fun, as long your expectations aren't too high going in. I thought the old Sebadoh-era songs were more interesting than Gaffney's newer songs, which kind of tended to blend together after a while into a sort of standard indie power-pop mush (sort of reminded me of Eugenius, actually). My favorite part was when the bass player, her name was Jessica I think, demonstrated to Lowenstein how the drum part for the opening of one of the songs went by playing the air drums.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 23 April 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

yeah, sorry gaffney, no one came to hear your new songs.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

I think Gaffney was aware of that, though he seemed to take it all in stride. At one point, Gaffney says something along the lines of taking a request. Someone in the crowd requests a song (I forget the title). Lowenstein remarks, "You know that's a cover, don't you?" Pause. Lowenstein again: "Oh, you did know that." Laughs. Then the bass player raises her eyebrows and says something about the gaucheness of requesting covers.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 23 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

Pretty boring... I don't know why I leave the house at all anymore...but dancing w/ Jeff to "gut feeling" and Flipper's "Ever' was a highlight.

happy girl noises!!!! (aka daerest rsg) (crablangoon), Sunday, 24 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I had to go disco.

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Sunday, 24 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

they were excellent last night. tho the set was too short (no "crisis!").

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 24 April 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

They played "Crisis" at Tonic on Friday, but sadly no "Elixir is Zog".

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 24 April 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

they got cut off by 4 songs (!?!?) last night.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 24 April 2005 23:56 (twenty years ago)

their set was definitely way short. got a cd-r of new shit from gaffney but haven't listened to it yet,

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Monday, 25 April 2005 00:18 (twenty years ago)

were you at enid's afterwards?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

no, me and my soon-to-be-missus went home to rest up before a holiday visit with fam.

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Monday, 25 April 2005 10:35 (twenty years ago)

the new songs of eric's have this great classic rock vibe to them. i am disappointed in noize dudes for not diggin' TEH ROCK. too many m.i.a. downloadz i guess.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 10:43 (twenty years ago)

gonna listen to that record when i get home today; nate mentioned eugenius upthread, which is a really good comparison, i think. the abrupt endings to most of the songs, whether by design or not, were winning. and gaffney definitely had some kinda james spader-like thing going on, too. they were great.

rasheed wallace (rasheed wallace), Monday, 25 April 2005 10:53 (twenty years ago)

i really need a copy of sebadoh "iii" again.

btw post-show i was hanging with gaff/lowenstein (cue amateurist being a douche) and eric gave jake a cd of unreleased "iii" outtakes!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

did you ask loewenstein if he is writing a diet book?

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

hahaha, no. he looks good tho, yeah. gonna call him this week and hang, i hope. good to get reacquainted with an old friend *sighs of sentimentallity*

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

HSTENCIL I THINK YOU DROPPED SOMETHING.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 25 April 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Better than Judas Priest's "Hell bent for leather", September 15, 1999
Reviewer: julio1000@webtv.net (Beloit, WI) - See all my reviews

this cd is cool. And when I say cool I don't just mean cool, I mean really cool. It's like, just the other day I was talking to my Dad and he was all "Mow the lawn" and I'm all "Make me" and then he's all you must have been listening to that Boston CD that I gave you for Christmas, so I'm like all Sha, right! I've been listening to Sebadoh III. And everything is alright with the world.

The president gave Prince Abdullah a warm embrace and they kissed on both cheeks. Mr. Bush held Prince Abdullah's hand to guide him into an office at the ranch, the president chatting about bluebonnets growing around the building.
