i'm not slamming anybody or anything, but every time i check out this thread i get creeped out:

Your opinion, please: 366-band, 411 track 1981 box set

i don't know why, really. it's just weird to me. and all so serious. i kinda wish someone would spam it. but i shouldn't say that. i've had too much wine. i've said too much. i start lots of weird threads.

anonymous scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:32 (twenty years ago)

NO.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

what's up with you man? Yo peep, no trip if you ain't trying to, but scope: can't find that scaramanga album fucking anywhere, would it be kosher to trade or something really quick or just grab that off you with the quickness, as opposed to waiting in line for 4000 files to d/l it off you?

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:48 (twenty years ago)

dood, no, listening to kool musik is cool, cutty, there is just a weird vibe on that thread that i can't pinpoint. it's like a funeral going on. i've said too much. i am a funeral.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:49 (twenty years ago)

and the whole bimble thing is weird. it's like reality has descended on everyone's postpunk daydream. it's a weird scene!

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

nicole says "fucking relax"

I SAY... WHAT DOES "NO TRIP IF YOU AIN'T TRYING TO" MEAN?

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:50 (twenty years ago)

bimble.. really now? you are a disgrace to this whole affair.
-- cutty (holle...), April 17th, 2005 7:14 PM. (mcutt) (later)

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:52 (twenty years ago)

you hit a nerve because you hate yourself and all of us. You are speaking obscenely offensive shit about a box set that is truly, genuinely evil and you seem to enjoy it. That makes you worse than it. You fucking clueless loser.

p.s. SARCASM JUST MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A CUNT, GIVE IT UP BOY

efil4zelffor (deangulberry), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:54 (twenty years ago)

who me?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 22 April 2005 23:58 (twenty years ago)

is that a markelby impersonation or am i missing something here?

kephm (kephm), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

cutty, did you actually pay money for 1981, and if so, for how much were you fleeced?

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:17 (twenty years ago)

i gladly paid $13 for it.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

people pay full price for a single CD compilation, why is it unreasonable to pay $13 for an 8 CD+ mix/compilation of music i love that comes in a nice package?

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

not bad then. you were not fleeced, though the project itself is a bit psychotic and without any aesthetic whatsoever.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:22 (twenty years ago)

which might make it interesting in the sense of the compiler being uber-obsessive.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

he's the lunatic, not me. i'm just reaping the rewards of his lunacy.

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

what a lawyer! *swoon*

efil4zelffor (deangulberry), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

thats what i meant, cutty. yr not the loon.

then again, im a complete hypocrite since I just made a 4cdr comp based purely on the ascending length of each song and piece.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

ha! i've done that!

cutty (mcutt), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:28 (twenty years ago)

my comp is probably total crap. only gygax! knows.

jack cole (jackcole), Saturday, 23 April 2005 00:29 (twenty years ago)

the tape i made last week is total nutz. i think i'll start a thread on it! (no really i will. i mean we are all fuckin' nutz, no big deal, but i dunno, there was a hushed tone on that thread that was freakin' me. and yeah, the image of the dood putting together his pretty boxes by hand at home by candlelight is a compelling one and even that freeks me out for some reason. it's probably something i ate.)

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:33 (twenty years ago)

OMG MADE SURE IT HAS KILLARS DOUGHHED ELLSISON

efil4licnetsh (deangulberry), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

Dude, jack, I love you and you rule, and I can't WAIT to hear your newest comp, but that 1981 thing is NOT "without any aesthetic whatsoever"!! The aesthetic is, no black music allowed! Just kidding. There is some Prince on there and I think some other stuff. But it is really, honestly, an excellent THING to hold in your hand. I am actually in awe. This guy set the bar real high. It is sequenced really well. Like, each disc definitely has a theme, and he paid a lot of attention to flow within each disc/theme. TOTALLY worth the very selfless 13 bones, considering all the effort that must have gone into the thing.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:38 (twenty years ago)

i think i figured out the hushed tone while i was outside smoking a cigarette: nobody wanted to scare the guy away. it makes sense now. and yeah, i am all for obsessivism.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:42 (twenty years ago)

I thought I'd heard everything, but this comp is very humbling. THere is tons of stuff I hadn't heard before! Martha and the Muffins? Never heard 'em! Clock DVA? Never really been my speed, but, now I know! And knowing is half the battle. The comp made me realize how much I love the Pretenders, he put "Message to Love" on there and DAMN if that isn't the best fuckin song EVER. I even fell in love with the INXS song on there, "Stay Young" from one of there first albums. I never heard that early stuff from them but this ain't half bad! Got stuck in my head for a coupla days...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

I don't know about scaring the guy away or anything ... I mean, I'm all for being an asshole at times ... but I dunno, I couldn't really see any reason to be negative! Better this guy actually contributing something to the community than random english dudes spamming noise board threads with candy raver nonsense. and that Bimble dood needs to get one non-anglophile taste and shut his pie hole.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:48 (twenty years ago)

also he totally must have put a ton of time into getting the levels all balanced, etc .. and it shows! I mean that's one of the problems with downloading MP3s, you wind up with all these random things at different bitrates and volume levels and etc, and it makes the whole listening process a smidgen less enjoyable. but this guy went to the trouble of equalizing everthang out, and yeah that's crazy obsessive, but I only WISH i had that kinda work ethic. the end results are quite praiseworthy.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 April 2005 01:59 (twenty years ago)

speaking of giving back to the asshole community, i dug up that morning mix tape that i wrote about on my blog, stormy. if you want it e-mail me yer address. there is some stuff on it that you might not dig, but there is some cool stuff too. i did not check my levels too good when i made it though. the freestyle stuff on it is crazycool.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not a big 'levels' kind of guy. I'm certainly not typing this next to McIntosh amp or Nakamichi tape drive, but I do respect a good work ethic. Being raised a protestant and all..

doooder skot, i would TOTALLY love to hear that tape. as I indicated on that other thread. I could totally send you some real reet shit in return. I'm about to send George a copy of a Uriah Heep side-project record I think he will dig that I picked up for a buck, so I am a selfless guy too! we are all selfless guys around this joint!! I could pick you up that Mark-Almond record for .50 if you want it. Or maybe I'll just make you a CDR of this Thundermother rekkid that I just KNOW will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Wait, DO you have hairs on the back of your neck? not everyone does, i don't think. put it this way, it rocks and rolls. We should totally start trading tho skot, I'll send ya an email..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:11 (twenty years ago)

Jack, the CD set is beautifully packaged, but not overflowing with Tropicalia as promised! That's the third time I've traded with someone who was like "what are you interested in" and I'm all like "I don't know anything about tropicalia" and they're like "I'll hook you up" and then somehow I end up still with no tropicalia. It's a weird trend, the music trading gods trying to tell me something. But I'm looking forward to listening to it, thanks again. I recently had the Notekillers play a show in Brooklyn. They were great. Or as someone said, if Williamsburg had a ZZ Top. The floor samples and floppy disks were an awesome touch.

I haven't gotten my 1981 box yet, but I'd have to argue with both the creator and Bimble on one thing. You cannot edit the Presence by Crispy Ambulance. It's good because it's that damn long!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:13 (twenty years ago)

no, i hear you about MP3s and the like, stormy. i wonder if people even realize how shitty some of that stuff can sound. dood borrowed some of my feelies vinyl to burn and i asked him for a copy for maria and i listened to it and i couldn't believe how bad it sounded. i mean, i don't know if he just made her a crappier copy cuz it was easier or something, no big deal, but i thought it was unlistenable. which bugs me, cuz i do want to get a burner for my stereo so that i can tape rekkerds and stuff on to cd. but not if they are gonna sound like shit.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:17 (twenty years ago)

see, that's why the vibe was weird on that thread, dan was lurking on it the whole time! i knew i felt a strange presence.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:19 (twenty years ago)

i love this thread, but scott, you're bananas on this one, the 1981 box owns.

mark p (Mark P), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:21 (twenty years ago)

no, the 1981 dood is cool, he is obviously a wacko, and i love wackos, i just smelled something weird. it will all be fine in the morning. the bimble thing was weird, ya gotta admit that.

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:23 (twenty years ago)

okay, now i'm going to bed and yoo can all talk about what a weirdo i am. godblezzzzzzzz....

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 23 April 2005 02:28 (twenty years ago)

the bathrobe sean connery was a crosspost with the markleby impersonation line. i've got the timing of a ..., no trip i wasnt trying to.
