British Islanders don't consider themselves Europeans, exactly.

AM I A NOISE DUDE?????

Arguments FOR:

1. Some of my favorite records are by The Boredoms, The Jesus Lizard, and Drive Like Jehu.
2. I have been in TWO noise bands...but one only existed in name ("Bald Baby Afro"!), and the other split up after one afternoon and one song.
3, Edited and wrote for bad teenage punk rock cut n' paste fanzine.
4. Make crappy "art" films.
5. Love burritos.
6. Posted in ALL CAPS while you bitches were still in training bras.
7. I have a Black Flag shirt like IAN JOHNSON.
8. I know official noise dude GYGAX!, and I'm pretty sure he likes me!
9. Not sure where I stand personally on the issue of C'ing on T's, but am pretty sure it's an admirable thing if both parties consent to it.

Arguments AGAINST:

1. EUROPEAN and PROUD, though I don't live there now.
2. Possible metrosexual. Started Yuppie Guilt thread.
3. Listen to faggy music like chart pop, house, THE STREETS, and dude jazz singers who sound like chicks.
4. Haven't bought a noise record or been to a noise show (are The Blood Brothers "noise"?) in probably two years.
5. Could be considered "posh".
6. General fagginess.

thorJESUHOY (Thor), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

why can't he be more like a character from a Walker Percy novel?

jakol has only been to Vancouver once in his adult life and that was the week of his birthday and it rained buckets the whole time.

places jak went:

1. Scratch Records (purchased a Reynols CD, etc)
2. Zulu Records (purchased a Mark Szabo ep, etc)
3. some breakfast joint across the street from Zulu that was busy but good.
4. a thrift store down the street from Zulu where Hanoi Jane bought a light jacket with a sporty stripe (since she has always has had an 80's/The Outsiders movie fashion sense.
5. In dt Vancouver proper, wandered up the touristy shee shee street. Ate eye-talian food. walked past lame boutiques and Hooters
6. one night ate great thai food with thai dancers for entertainment.
7. note that it poured rain every day.
8. went to park peninsula.
9. should have gone to victoria cuz datz where the kids are these days due to lower rents. i guess it aint the town of old people and victorian mansions anymore. should have gone to busch gardens to see thumb sized pygmy monkeys.
10. went to a movie.
11. went to Virgin Record store and bought the Wire one night (clouddead cover).
12. was recovering from cold.

jack cole (jackcole), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

well if ILE says it is truth then it must be! but seriously, i've only read like 5 threads on ILE in the past 3 days.

http://www.britainineurope.org.uk/

-Give pupils an outline map of Europe and ask them to mark on it the countries that belong to the European Union.
-Start a discussion by presenting pupils with a range of statements on key issues and asking them to discuss them in pairs. For example, on the issue of law, statements could include: 'laws should be the same for all countries in the European Union'; 'individual countries should make their own laws'; and 'countries should make their own laws, but these should be compatible with laws in other EU countries'. On the issue of the single currency, possible statements include: 'the UK should keep the pound'; 'the UK should adopt the euro'; and 'the UK should keep the pound but have economic policies that are compatible with those of other European Union countries'. Other issues on which statements could be discussed include defence, crime, immigration, cultural identity, trade and social policy.
-The pairs join up into small groups and share their views on each issue. They also discuss who should have the power to make major decisions on the issue, eg the UK Government, the European Parliament, the European Commission or the people of a country in a referendum. Pupils then share their different views as a class. They discuss the advantages and disadvantages of membership of the European Union for individuals, eg as consumers, tourists, employees, students, citizens, and organisations, eg different types of business, football clubs, organisations providing healthcare. What are the advantages and disadvantages of EU membership for the UK?

Children:

-identify the member countries of the European Union
-recognise that a range of issues can be affected by decisions taken at both national and European levels of government
-know some of the arguments for and against membership of the European Union, for both individuals and organisations
-contribute to class discussions

IS CUBA CONSIDERED PART OF NORTH AMERICA?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 4 August 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

British people use "European" as a cultural term rather than a geographic term, whatever their feelings on their own identity. The real word they use to separate themselves from the rest is "continental".

Trumans Water was from San Diego, not Europe.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 7 October 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I am in BELIZE in that picture.

"San Diego" is a Spanish name. Spanish is a language that originates in Spain, a country found in the Southern part of a continent called Europe. In iIeland, Truman's Water are known as Les Pipes Des Chartiers and their records are all played at 45rpm.

Part of popular US tv show TEMPTATION ISLAND was filmed in the place that you see me in.

Do you have any photos of you swimming with sharks?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 7 October 2004 17:35 (twenty years ago)

I have photos I took OF sharks while swimming with them! They are all looking at me and saying that I am great!

My Dinner With Little Lord Travolta (nordicskilla), Thursday, 7 October 2004 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I had to swim with sharks because my fear of heights prevented me from climbing to the top of this one awesome Mayan temple. So instead I jumped off of the side of a boat right into the middle of a...school?...of sharks.
