new Dan Melchior solo thing. Excellent pop abandonment of former blues influence. looked at melchior's website about the last Broke Revue album which was supposed to come out last year. seems like Troubleman fucked him over. thanks for putting out crappy Hair Police albums instead, TU!

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

ddb if you like goblin, you should check out christian bruhn, get the soundtrack for the legend of timm thaler (1979), also piero umilianis 70s electronic stuff (theres a good comp called musicaelletronica)

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

cerberus shoal are the epitome of college wank.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:10 (twenty years ago)

i like their collaboration/split cd series pretty good. they do have spotty moments on their selfstuffedstuff. the alvarius b split is especially good though. even college wankers deserve fudge.
m.

msp (mspa), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

i'm never really sure what to make of them. they have their fans here, i know, (roger adultery i think?).

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

and im about to order the alan braxe lp, which is bound to be super good, never puts a foot wrong

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I like Cerberus Shoal well enough. I thought the epitome of college wank was still Radiohead?

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

i always think of Radiohead as being for upwardly mobile college kids with advertising degrees who have their finger on the pulse of the supposed corpse of culture.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

which cerberus shoal records do you recommend ian?

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

The only ones I know are "Climbing The Knobblestone" and the collaborations with Alvarius B and Herman Dune. I like them all to varying degrees. "Climbing..." is pretty good, in a rickety hazy psychedelic/indie kinda way. For some reason I have it in my head that they were some sort of post-hardcore band early on in their careers--am I wrong?

Ian John50n (orion), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

nah they were or at least came from that beforehand. they got more expansive as they went along.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 6 June 2005 17:56 (twenty years ago)

iron maiden - powerslave

latebloomer: Pain Don't Hurt (latebloomer), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

yea, they were sort of post-hardcore in the beginning, the "and farewell to hightide" lp is like that. i liked that one, im not sure about any of the ones after that, whether i like them or not

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Robert Wyatt - End of an Ear, Cuckooland
Mike Ladd - Negrophilia
Keith Hudson - Pick A Dub
Ornette Coleman - Crisis (Live), Body Meta

Downloaded the White Stripes album because someone told me it was good, then regretted it immediately. It's boring. I haven't heard a record so boring in a long time.

Sonny, Ah!!1 (Sonny A.), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 04:56 (twenty years ago)

howz negrophilia?

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 04:57 (twenty years ago)

CUT IT OUT, JON!!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 June 2006 00:48 (nineteen years ago)

"what do you think of that album, Scott?"

the second album is actually better. having said that, i'm not a huge fan of either. dudes weren't very good at psych and their old-tymey stuff kinda bugs me sometimes. i like early leon solo okay.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 June 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

i have never listened to the 2nd one, or any of leon's solo records. i thought the one i listened to was decent but not very catchy. i want more catchy.

the eunuchs, Cassim and Mustafa, who guarded Abdur Ali's harem (orion), Sunday, 25 June 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

you know what's a really nice album that i put on from time to time? Jesse Colin Young's debut on Capitol, *The Soul Of A City Boy*. folky, bluesy, pre-psych. supremely mellow and groovy. so so nice. i don't know why i'm thinking of it.

i just put on a Movietone album. i never listen to it. whenever i see it, i always think it has something to do with belle & sebastian. i don't know why. it sounds nice! whatever happened to them?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 June 2006 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

I will look for the JCY album if i remember. or at least i will remember next time i see it, probably. also been jamming early jackson browne a little bit

the eunuchs, Cassim and Mustafa, who guarded Abdur Ali's harem (orion), Sunday, 25 June 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

ian, i'm curious. why don't i see you constantly listening to the buckingham-nicks album on these threads. that album is fucking godhead.

anyway, now i'm listening to MANNA by BREAD! Anyone got a problem with that??? it's a cool fuckin' album!

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 25 June 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

Coincidentally, I got that "Thru Spray Colored Glasses" 45 by Dino, Desi, and Billy today, which was written by David Gates. It is a beautiful composition.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 25 June 2006 01:32 (nineteen years ago)

doodz, seriously, you want great great production and ultra-cool acoustic guitars? the first aztec two-step album is the way to go. jerry yester produced. here's the cover:

and oh yeah the new wave as the next guy comp is pretty essential if you are a ron house or mike rep fan. twisted lo-fi basement tape/live stuff. i love it. don't know how easy it is to find, i've had the cd for years. came out on a tiny label. its in the grand ohio tradition of rock awesomeness.

scott seward, Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:30 (fifteen years ago)

Speaking of which, this Psychedelic Horseshit "Acid Tape" sounds alright!
But the show last night was something else. Beth and Adam from TNV turned psychedelic horseshit into a great pop band.
Not that dude didn't write pop songs before, just that now he's got a band that plays the songs with him, instead of against him, or something.
Wonder if they'll record the lineup?

Trip Maker, Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:45 (fifteen years ago)
