Stumped for xmas gifts, i bought my missus an ISI whip siphon as a novelty whatever. On opening it, my 17 and 19 y/os chorused “NITROUS PARTY!” and were barely able to breathe laughing. She was “waht?” I was “um, surely not, i don’t think so?” until i looked at the 8 cartridges which are obv not CO2 but NO2. duh. so if you wanna get obliterated cmon over for titanic whipits.

My wife's sister got horribly addicted to nitrous as part of this commercialized wave of stuff https://web.archive.org/web/20250106132346/https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/galaxy-gas-flavored-nitrous-oxide-drug-epidemic.html. She was apparently doing it as often as she could for about a year, and hiding it from her friends and family. Getting high throughout the day, sneaking hits after her boyfriend went to sleep, etc. She's going through all sorts of mental and neurological problems as a result. Lost her job. Very debilitated. Has to rely on others for daily support. Completely miserable.
I had no idea that nitrous had become so readily available. Growing up and going to jam band shows, I think we had heard that long-term use was very bad for you, but since I only saw it when big bands came through, long-term use wasn't something I thought about too much.
I'm just trying to spread the word about this to as many people as I can today, because I'd hate for anyone to go through what she's going through. Like, if you have kids, you might want to have a specific talk with them about the dangers of this shit. Same goes for any friends and family who might be inclined towards substances.

I'm sorry to hear about that. I've been reading a few things here and there, including that nymag article, and it's depressing how things have escalated so quickly in recent years based on what seems like pure profiteering and loopholes.
They took it down, but some smoke shop type of place popped up not far from my workplace, on the edge of a relatively affluent suburb, two doors down from a Panera in a strip mall. Tons of these places now, selling vapes and whatever, but I had to do a double-take because during their opening week they had a bunch of decals of the front window advertising their wares and one of them was just the word "WHIPPETS"
