THEIR NAME ALONE, GIVES ME THE CREEPS.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Let's face it, group names with the word "boys" in them are always teh suck.

(the groups might be good, but the names always suck)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:11 (twenty years ago)

Geto Boys are a possible exception.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Vengaboys also.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

ddb (ddb), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

But "West End Girls" is good though - I listened to it three times in a row last night.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

SERIOUSLY, IF THAT'S LIKE THEIR BEST SONG THEN I'M GLAD I DIDN'T MISS MUCH.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, what's good about the name "Vengaboys"? Beach Boys is also a shit name (great band obv.).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Well, actually I have heard Boyz II Men - but I don't remember what they sound like.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

ALL THESE NAMES SUCK (especially Fun Boy Three)

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

You don't even like Soft Boys? Jeez, tough crowd.

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

I dont like the SOFT BOYS. But the BIG BOYS FUCKING RULE...and their name is great because they WERE GIANT GAY FATTAYS. (WELL ONE OF THEM WAS).

ddb (ddb), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

don't ever change

the PSB signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, what's good about the name "Vengaboys"?

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

You don't even like Soft Boys? Jeez, tough crowd.

I'm not talking about the music, I'm just saying that the *name* sucks.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

"i fuck more girls and take more drugs than you"

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

I TRIED TO GET PAST MY BEACH BOYS AVERSION, BUT IT JUST DIDN'T HAPPEN

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

How old is Gareth?

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the Beach Boys

I've never been able to get into "Pet Sounds" very much either, though I kind of like "Surf's Up".

o. nate (onate), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

How old is Gareth?

Old enough to know better, younger than you, older than me.

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

So 58?

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the Beach Boys.

OTM.

Ian John50n (orion), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:54 (twenty years ago)

music for radio jingles + lyrics about surfing and driving + barbershop quartet vox = dud, no matter how "complex" the production and no matter that Brian Wilson doesn't get out much

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

i'd rather listen to Dick Dale's sixties stuff.

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

I like some of the surfing/cars songs. "Surfin' Safari" and "Little Honda," for example.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

yeah, Dick Dale over the Beach Boys any day of the week

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

"Pet Sounds" is totally overrated! I like the Beach Boys, though. Friends is great.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

music for radio jingles + lyrics about surfing and driving + barbershop quartet vox = dud, no matter how "complex" the production and no matter that Brian Wilson doesn't get out much

That's only true of the Beach Boys through 1965, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Pet Sounds is achingly beautiful.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

ugh pet sounds. i mean I'm sure BW is a genius but ugh

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

It's funny because it sounds like in the US most people only know Pet Shop Boys for "West End Girls" and think that only "stoopid gays" listen to them, whereas most people in the UK only know the Beach Boys for "California Girls" and in some ways they bring out the Uncut/dadrock contingent something horrible.

I like both bands, for the record.

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

beach boys are total dadrock though

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

yeah people always forget about "opportunities" which is indeed a masterpiece. i wish pet shop boys was dadrock, and i wish my dad would listen to them. he hates the beach boys, and so do i

caitlin oh no (caitxa1), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

You should move to Bushey!

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

my dad's dadrock is ould irish folk.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

badrock is close enough to dadrock, i suppose.

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

My dad's dadrock is Beethoven.

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:23 (twenty years ago)

My dad's dadrock was Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc.

Ellsworth M. Toohey (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

cool

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

VON LMO claims to be greatly influenced by Glenn Miller.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

much better than what the "momrock" was -- late period Elvis and Barbara Streisand are ground zero for sonic nightmares.

did VON LMO explain how or was it an off the cuff, crazy LMO comment? If so, that would be very cool. hmmm, i will have to have listen to Future Language today . . .

Earl Summerfield (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

the only good music a family member ever bought me without me asking or ever mentioning it was when my dad got me a giant Charlie Parker set when I was in high school aeons a go.

Earl Summerfield (Grodd), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

From "The VON LMO Story":

"Influenced by the Glenn Miller Band, Von Elmo began to wed his message to the big beat. By the end of the '50s, he had brought his message of advancement to Mongolia, Hong Kong, Zanzibar, and the Fiji Islands."

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

my mom bought me that Solomon Burke "comeback" record a couple of years ago

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

that's okay.

the Stanmore signal (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)
