"pablo picasso" by the modern lovers on repeat... i'm getting on stage with some friends on friday to honor a friend for his 30th... must absorb lyrical nuances.

which i'm sure never happened to pablo picasso.

he was never called an asshole. (not by lovely ladies on the streets of new york city at least.)

jack cole, a senior citizen who lives alone with his cat (jackcole), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:48 (twenty years ago)

Outrage & Horror is fantastic, especially since they included the 3 songs from the Tagmenics single at the end, which apparently the folks at Overground don't even care as much about.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

Was that the Savage Pencil band?

http://www.punk77.co.uk/groups/artattacks.htm

Savage Pencil = Edwin Pouncey, Art Attacks singer. Also, Robert Gotobed played drums with them for a spell. I'll have to re-read the liners because this always confuses me, how he can go from Art Attacks to Wire when Wire were an earlier band, I think.

SEPTIC DEATH: CROSSED OUT TWICE

MELVINS + BREWS = YR NEIGHBOR (ddb), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Mark E. Smith namechecks Savage Pencil in "Your Heart Out" which is pretty early Fall-song. I reckon Art Attacks and Wire were v. close in time.

>Wrath of the Math

I'd forgotten how unstoppable it was, every time a new track starts I'm forced to turn it up louder

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

ok close tag but italics warranted

milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:02 (twenty years ago)

msp, I guess it's actually a UK pressing. Three bonus tracks from the original sessions: two long ass (15 minutes each) fusion jams, "Pica Pau" and "Star Trap -- good if you like that kinda thing (and I do), probably boring if you don't -- and one pretty sweet song with vocals, "Open Field". i got it from ,where else, DustyGroove--

http://www.dustygroove.com/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/dga/search.cgi?usersrch=slaves+mass+uk&issearch=yes

and, erm, I guess that means you'll no longer be needed a copy of that third item on your list, milton? Man, I'm so bad about trading. my apologies.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:11 (twenty years ago)

I still need the CD version, I'm listening to my twenty-year old cassette of the vinyl version. e-mailing you shortly there.

3-6 Mafia - Da Unbreakables: Screwed and Chopped!!

Ô¿Ô (eman), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:37 (twenty years ago)

i'm relistening to "Slave's Mass" and it's actually pretty awesome. it's really freaky. it gets into a bit of lite/smooth/fusion-y moments that i don't love, but could grow to like. just have to remember he's brazilian and if these were on a gil album, i wouldn't think twice.

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I mean, any album with a pig on it...

hey, how's Time of the Last persecution? we are on the same page again, I see..

dude, James Blount was so right, Da Unbreakables really was the best of the rash of S&C albums that year. And the original obviously rips ass too. Anybody heard their new one?? I fingered it the other day at Target but didn't buy it... I didn't feel like paying extra for the stupid DVD. LIke I care about their movie.

Milton -- good news! I will make good this time.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 02:26 (twenty years ago)

hey, how's Time of the Last persecution?

haven't listened to it yet.

we are on the same page again, I see..

so what, you didn't like what i was listening to!?

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:27 (twenty years ago)

i think the first song i ever heard screwed & chopped was 3-6's sippin on some syrup. i love that album (the original) but think they're terrible mcs.

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

wha .. ? dude, I mean again as in "once again", "as always", "'twas ever thus" and so forth. you know, like, cool- coincidence that you listed the Fay record at the same time I did, etc.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember how the S&C version of "Rainbow Colors" goes since the original was already S&C. Did they S&C it again. So it's like, double S&C'd?? S&C^2?

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 03:32 (twenty years ago)

wha .. ? dude, I mean again as in "once again", "as always", "'twas ever thus" and so forth. you know, like, cool- coincidence that you listed the Fay record at the same time I did, etc.

Carved into Roses is the record I listened to the most in college, probably after Pet Sounds. I'd get really depressed and play it so loud that my brain could not be depressed, or happy, or anything other then Carved into Roses.

?ÎÓDDDJHKHVBNM (eman), Sunday, 24 July 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

HhaHAHAHA!!!! Those are all on cd fwiw. I got them at the world's crappiest record store where every fucking Funkadelic record is $15. Um should I go back for:

LPs:
Christian Vander - Tristan Et Iseult ($10?)
Hawkwind - Earth Ritual Preview ($8?)
Hawkwind - Space Ritual Alive ($10?)
A bunch of Hawklords shi?
Some 12" 45 Hawkwind singles
Fuck, just a bunch of Hawkwind shite.
Steve Reich - Sextet / Six Marimbas ($15)
Julian Cope - My Nation Underground ($8)
Eno - Another Gree World ($8)

Tumililingan (ex machina), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I own the following Skullflower CDs:

Carved Into Roses
Exquisite Fucking Boredom
Obsidian Shaking Codex
Ruins
This Is Skullflower
Last Shot at Heaven
Argon
IIIrd Gatekeeper
Infinityland
Transformer
Xaman (yes, it's rotten)
Adieu, All You Judges (Live split w/ Ramleh)

a few 7"s.

Many Ramleh related CDs and records as well. If any of these are worth more then 25 or so bucks and any of you want to buy them, I'd be willing. Some have stickers on them and stuff, I don't like selling on eBay. And I wouldn't sell them cheap because I'd rather just own the CDs then get a couple of bucks I'll blow on gatorade or something anyway.

Are any of the Total records worth anything?

i'm a bit dissapointed in the Colder album so far. I loved "Downtown" and there's another song or two on their almost as good, but some of it's not nearly as interesting, a bit generic.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

is this a new album? i heard the first one and every song i kept saying to myself, "geez, can? joy division? basic channel?" it sounded ok, but so derivative. is the new one any better?

The Amazing Jaxon! (jaxon), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

yep, it's a new one. the second half of it put me to sleep on the train last week. (I liked the first one, but it took a while to really click.)

haitch (haitch), Monday, 25 July 2005 03:39 (twenty years ago)

neither album is all that great, but it's like, he's mining stuff I really love in a way that I really want to enjoy. Much of it doesn't have legs, but he hits a few high points and does some great production. On the new one however, even the production seems pretty bland and generic. I just want to like it so much.

But Downtown kicks ass.
