Allan Bryant - Spaceballs
Christmas Decorations - Model 91
Tokyo Flashback 3
The Savage Resurrection (CD on Mod Lang)

Heard Bloc Party and Danzig on the radio on the way home.

Nice day. Sunny.

SERIOUSLY awesome album - wow. WTF? This album seemed to get like zero attention.

I'm wandering round and round nowhere to go
I'm lonely in London London is lovely so
I cross the streets without fear
Everybody keeps the way clear
I know, I know no one here to say hello
I know they keep the way clear
I am lonely in London with out fear
I'm wandering round and round here nowhere to go
While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky
While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky
Oh Sunday, Monday autumn pass by me
And people hurry on so peacefully
A group approaches the policeman
He seems so pleased to please them
It's good at least to live and I agree
He seems so pleased at least
And it's so good to live in peace
And Sunday, Monday, years and I agree
While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky
While my eyes
Go looking for flying saucers in the sky

I miss San Diego (well, at least downtown/North County San Diego of the early 90s).

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:20 (twenty years ago)

I SAW CHRISTMAS DEC. LIVE.

WHAT A FUCKIN MESS. TERRIBLE.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

I CAN SEE IT BEING GOOD ON RECORD THO...MAYBE?

ddb (ddb), Monday, 11 July 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

complete tool troy johnson of fox rox and eventually channel 4 padres (wtf) fame told me on my teevee the other night that off the record was moving to north park. i said to myself i said "well how about that." off the record location will become a fancy fancy restraunt i guess. and north park will continue to become the new hillcrest and talmadge or something will continue to dream of becoming the new north park.

ath (ath), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

BTW i have half of the new silver jews album. it is on soulseek.

ath (ath), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

They're in the Claire de Lune building. Apparently, they have this other room that they are going to be using for regular all ages shows.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 11 July 2005 21:35 (twenty years ago)

(This will be good for me because I'm not 21 yet.)

SAN DIEGO MUNCH
WEATHER CLOWN

by Ms. Beak

A recent flurry of letters to the San Diego Union-Tribune once again confirmed that screeching KUSI-TV weatherman John Coleman is the most controversial figure in local TV news.

“He’s beyond a doubt the most irritating news person I’ve ever watched. Is it just me?” wrote Frank Bodden of Carlsbad, who apparently has not spent any quality time observing Katie Couric.

As it turned out, Frank was not alone. “When he gets giddy we get ‘riddy’ of him,” wrote Jim Edgerton, of San Marcos, showing unusual literary flair for someone from San Marcos.

But some viewers rushed to Coleman’s defense, shocked that this grand entertainer of local television, the master of the “K-UUUUU-SSS-I” squeal, might be a tad irritating to some viewers.

“His “K-UUUUUUUUUUUUUU-S-I” is nothing less than a warm embrace after a hard day, it’s soothing to my soul,” miffed reader Alfred Huete of Spring Valley fired back.

It speaks volumes about local TV news that an aging weatherman could, arguably, stake his claim as the town’s most controversial TV personality, but that’s TV news.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 29 July 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

At the end of the 11:00 news on fridays, he says (same exact thing every time):

IT'S THAT WONDERFUL DAY BETWEEN THURSDAY AND SATURDAY
THE BOSS HAS LOST CONTROL*
I'M GIDDY
IT'S .... FRIDAY!

Then, he bounces up out of his chair and runs off the set.

* Sometimes, it's "OH BOSS, YOU'VE LOST CONTROL!"

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 29 July 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

aw man, it's so funny. KUSI is totally the only choice for latenight news. first of all, it's on an hour early, at 10, so you can catch it before you go to bed at 11. second, it's become like the retirement home for aging broadcasters. michael tuck, kimberly hunt - who's next? ted leitner? shawn styles? loren nancarrow?

(ps lauren nancarrow is waaaay funnier than larry himmel - or at least, if he's not exactly funnier, he's almost as funny but nowhere near as annoying - winning combination!)

vahid (vahid), Friday, 29 July 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

Shawn Styles - THE DOGGER

It would be unreal if they had Leitner. Think of it: Tuck, Bloom, Hunt, Leitner, Coleman, and TURKO.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 29 July 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 31 July 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

Used to love it, but had a weird incident there only a week or two ago and will not be returning!

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 31 July 2005 09:36 (twenty years ago)

do tell!

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 31 July 2005 09:41 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I should write about it on the internet! Weird rudeness from the person working there and we walked.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 31 July 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

that is unfortunate. the only time i have been to san diego was four years ago. i was there for a week and i think i ate at pokez like three times.

wtf - "california strain of the flu?" we got it from my sister-in-law, who had had a flu shot; must have been a different strain. i'm on like day nine or ten. not really sick anymore but still feeling wiped out and still congested. i had two days of fever and then thought it was over and i would be getting better but then i ended up having two more days of fever, sweating 'em out at night.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 23:43 (nineteen years ago)

I've been pushing for a trip to San Diego but for some reason Mrs Adam isn't into it. She says "it just seems like the sort of place you go for a conference". :(

adamrl (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

seriously. almost every person i knew got sick right around thanksgiving (i was floored and didn't even get out of bed one day). now the few people that didn't get sick are all getting it. but it's obviously a stronger strain because those peeps were too strong to get the first one. so now there's this monster flu going around and i just got a sore throat today.

xpost - yeah, sandiego sux unless you like army boys

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 January 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

ath (ath), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

tainted

ath (ath), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:02 (nineteen years ago)

Been a long time since I've eaten at one of those. We live just east of El Cerrito (and apparently "Darnall") in La Mesa in between El Cajon and University:

http://www.sandiego.gov/neighborhoods-map/graphics/midcity.gif

Do you live in SD, ath?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

Oh OK, "Darnall" is south of University.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:22 (nineteen years ago)

East of Rolando, then.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:23 (nineteen years ago)

no tim, but i used to live in san diego for a really long time. and yeah darnall turns into la mesa when you hit helix high/top gear i guess.

and i found out from a friend back home that the epicenter of the great tainted chicken scourge of '06 was actually the filibertos on university in north park, NOT the college area.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 10 September 2006 00:52 (nineteen years ago)

tell me more about these carne asada fries.

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Sunday, 10 September 2006 01:05 (nineteen years ago)

what kinds of sauces are involved? hot sauces?

disappointing goth fest line-up (orion), Sunday, 10 September 2006 01:06 (nineteen years ago)

I've read about those parrots! The theory is that the flock came about from people releasing their pets and pets escaping, right? Pretty weird. They must look beautiful, but aren't they extremely noisy?

A. Lingbert (A. Lingbert), Sunday, 10 September 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, you'd think they originated with someone's pets getting out. We saw about 15-20 of them today. They are pretty loud. First time we saw them was at a park and they arrived in a flock and were going about and perching in one tree and then another and then two crows came who postured at them for a while and finally scared them off. The parrots seemed to be doing the same thing near our house today - going from one tree to another and were only around for about five minutes or so.

Carne asada fries is a big thing of fries with carne asada meat on top and probably usually cheese and sour cream. At most taco shops they will either give you salsa for it in little plastic cups or you get your own salsa from their salsa bar (often you can get hot carrots there for free too and sometimes stuff like radishes, cucumbers, scallions...).

Man, we got stuff at a Roberto's for the first time in a long time the other day - the one in Carmel Valley (noted by Vahid above). I got two chicken tacos, which were awesome. The meat was really good quality - I was a little surprised, to be honest!

is PONCE'S ... i would bump it up to #6 or so ... drop taco motion off the list entirely, dunno what happened to those guys.

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Sunday, 10 September 2006 22:38 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah really. I used to eat at Taco Motion all the time like 6 years ago, but I had a carne asada burrito there at some point earlier this year, and it was terrible.

JV's near USD is awesome. I don't think that's been mentioned yet.

Mi C@s1ta in strip mall way down on University in La Mesa.

Tim Ellison, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

i did karaoke/went bowling in la mesa. i was only there for one night, but i liked san diego a lot. aside from random la mesa activity (i also played soccer in the parking lot of a del taco), we had really good burritos from a stand near a der wienerschnitzel and gross (but free) gelato from a shop at which all of my friend's remaining s.d. friends seemed to work.

lauren, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:56 (eighteen years ago)

to summarize: a++++++, would visit again!

lauren, Friday, 30 March 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

I've recently come to the opinion that super cocina (university between 36 and 37th streets or something) is the best mexican food in S.D. It's pretty much incredible.

i went to oceanside high's graduation yesterday for my cousin. he made honor roll and is going to UCLA.

in other news, downtown oceanside is fucking sleazy. why the hell did they decide to do the graduation at the pier? if they just had it up the street at the high school - or even the performing arts / library thingy - the trash element would've skipped out on it.
