anybody?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

been listening to Genesis Archive Vol 1 and it's kind of shocking how good he is when he locks in (first two discs = live version of The Lamb)

milton parker (Jon L), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Genesis' "The Grand Parade Of Lifeless Packaging", not necessarily the best thing he's drummed on, but the best drumming he's ever done on anything.

haha xpost

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to have video/audio of the drum track to that, it was pretty good.

DDB thinks Phil Collins, My #1 Myspace Crush AND Tommy Lee (esp. on "Livewire") are bad drummers, WTF!

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb (ddb), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"Cinema Show" off Selling England By the Pound hits this great groove towards the end in 5/4 I think.

Anti-Pope Consortium (noodle vague), Friday, 22 July 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

did he ever drum on any Robert wyatt stuff?

I don't know how much I like Another Green World. I tried listening to it just last week or something.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 22 July 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I CAN'T DANCE is the answer to hstencil's question.
TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN (BY STRATEGY) is a much better album than Another Green World.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 22 July 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i listened to "another green world" at work, that's what prompted this thread. i couldn't finish it because all the instrumental stuff was making me melancholy.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 22 July 2005 20:15 (twenty-one years ago)

"Becalmed" (melancholy instrumental off AGW) segues VERY well with the orchestral version (and reprise) of "Dancing Queen" off the Muriel's Wedding soundtrack.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 22 July 2005 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax!, you are wonderful. let's never fite again!!!

I don't like Another Green World, except for The Big Ship. It's horrible.

Adam In Real Life (nordicskilla), Friday, 22 July 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

1st Robert Plant solo album! Pictures At Eleven, my friends, oh yeah..

He's a great drummer.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 July 2005 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

The Big Ship sounds like M83.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Saturday, 23 July 2005 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

dude, Amateurist, I was listening to his NEW one TONIGHT on my ride home from work. i don't like "a" Plant solo album, I pretty much like them all! A lot of his solo stuff is really good -- mainly the first two with that great band featuring Robbie Blunt on guitar, and the last two with this new group. Sure, a lot of it has the whiff of old-guy-trying-hard, but it's overall good stuff. I even think you'd like Dreamland, you should check it out. But we can't agree on everything, my friend.

When I saw him a couple weeks back, he talked about how thrilled he was that he got to steal away to the Old Town School of Folk Music fest and he got to meet Otis Clay.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Saturday, 23 July 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

end bit of "mother whale eyeless".

haitch (haitch), Saturday, 23 July 2005 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

"In The Cage" from "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway". The way he picks it up after the first chorus = awesome. Most of his drumming on the older Genesis rekkids is outstanding. It's only after "and then there were three" that he started getting into this whole john bonham thing which was kind of lame. Also, Mike Rutherford never gets any props but he was the BEST BASSIST EVER.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 23 July 2005 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Peter Gabriel 3 (the one with the melting face cover) - no cymbals! Anywhere on the album! Although Biko is horrible.

Also, IT from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, my vote for the best Phil performance.

I knew this mad Swiss woman who was stalking him, she changed her name to Ph!lduke (g00gle-proofed cos we DON'T want her finding this thread believe me) and slept in his shed one night before he found her in the morning and rightfully ejected her from his property.
