Dear Gygax,

Are you familiar with Suishin sake? I have a 1.8 liter bottle of this and was wondering how to drink. Hot or cold?

sake should only be drank warm when it comes out of a box that gets top loaded into this warmer/disperser. why is it warm? because cold it tastes like elmer's glue and cheap tequila. drink that crap hot so that it evaporates before it gets to your taste buds.

for your sake dean:
just pour straight from bottle into a cup (or get yourself a pair of masu from little tokyo).

Dear Gygax,

Who is your favorite actor?

-Adam in B-Town

Hi Adam,

My favorite actor is Tony Leung at the moment.

Dear Gygax,

Does your music sound like Fennesz or Casiotone? Or is it much more than that?

Just wondering,
Your friend through beef,

Adam

Hi Adam,

My music may reference both Fennesz and C4TPA but not in (what I believe is) an obvious manner. I can't really describe it very well. I don't think it's as good as either as those for one.

Dear Gygax,

When was the last time you listened to OF THICK TUM?

According to my media software, I've listened to Yakboy-Nurturer and Wings Spred Wide I Thot "Ignition" off that record within the last 2 months.

Thanks.

Hi JC,

Both bands started off in their own quirky/uncommercial manner but broke through to more pleasing sounding material. But whereas Pavement's best work was long behind them when they broke up, the Boredoms broke up at the pinnacle of the band's arc. I'd have to say advantage: Boredoms.

[note: most of my favorite bands broke up at the height of their creative peak: Drive Like Jehu, My Bloody Valentine, Slint, Lisa Lisa And The Cult Jam, etc.]

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 12 August 2004 01:07 (nineteen years ago) link

TR:

I thought long and hard about this one... the corndog, the shiskabob, the satay... but i'm going to have to stick with "takoyaki", fried and breaded balls of octopus. When I was in Japan last year visiting my best friend, he hunted down the exact takoyaki-ya in Osaka that he had visited some 15 years earlier in his school trip to the ancient capital. needless to say, he navigated those twisted streets from off the train station, peaking around corners, sniffing into the air, and scratching his head before eventually pushing aside the drapery of the exact one from his jr. high school days. and it was delicious!

allison,

i think that the best wine cooler can be made by you, right in your home! take one two shots of dessert wine (try the bonnie doon vin de glacier) and then add a splash of chambord and fill the remainder of your RED wine glass with icecold sprite or seven up. swizzle and consume.

OR if you are feeling more adventurous: 3/4 sparks to 1/4 cactus cooler. this will knock your ass out (in time, mind you).

Dear Gygax!: For the entire 12 years of our marriage, my husband has slept on our couch with the remote in his hand. I have begged and pleaded, but he says it's a habit from childhood. Now I say nothing and go to bed alone.

Our children are beginning to notice that Daddy and Mommy don't sleep together, and I think that's a bad example to set. Worse, our physical relationship has been deteriorating over the years, and I'm sure this is one reason why.

I feel disconnected in our marriage and often think about living alone or finding someone else. Can you give me any advice and hope? --Tracy in Arkansas

Kappou Gomi is a local Richmond place serving plausible Kappou. It's cheap but not bad at all. I agree about LA or NY having better stuff generally and I avoided stuff I could easily get elsewhere. The gf's dad and stepmom have spent a lot of time in Japan and they thought it was pretty good, too; perfect for a dinner on a cold Sunday.

That is a fly piece that is "gaping". If it really bothers you, take it to a tailor and have them move the top button out a bit to even the tension on the fly piece. For the cost of a needle and thread, you can sew a "tack" (small pleat) on the underside of the fly piece as well but it might take a couple tries to get it right.

Last year I bought a pair of raw LVC 66501 from Tokyo. When I got home, I hot soaked it for a few hours and then air dried it. I tried them on and they were still a bit loose, so I flipped it inside out and threw it in the washer and put it under hot water wash cycle.

I'm not sure if it's LVC, or the hot wash or something else, but when I finally started wearing it, I noticed that it wasn't "raw" anymore.

Does anyone else ever ran into something like this or could explain why my LVC's are $#*#ed up now?!?
